Interesting discussion. Poker chip design includes the artwork and also the base colors of the chip faces and the edges too. I prefer the more traditional look of clay casino chips (even if it's being duplicated on a ceramic or plastic chip).

I ended up getting the Bank Poker Chips from Apache Poker Chips mostly board gaming. I had one crack but been pretty happy with them.

Weight, material, design? Which is the most important factor?

They aren't buzzwords. The pillars of design are foundations that let you answer the question: what is good design? Emphasis, Balance and Alignment, Contrast, Repetition, Proportion, Movement and White Space. That Wyndham Matsui $25, for example, fails not because of the simplicity of it's label design, but because the contrast in between the edge spots/denom and the chip base color is very low. Tiger Palace is a fantastic example of great design.

Foundational or not they sure get thrown around as a buzzword. I don't think those ideas are mutually exclusive.
