I used to really dislike Chespin's evolutionary line, but when I was replaying the games I tried it and I really liked it, it was stronger than I expected

@j.i.m1315 many people think that only Fennekin is good against the first gym, but chespin(and quilladin if you evolve it before the gym) are good against it as well since they get rollout at level 12(maybe 10?) Which is 4x super effective against vivillon, the gym leaders ace. All starters have some trouble against her surskuit, though.

@@nathanielmarino5989 I mean, Fennekin is still my favorite of the Kalos starters, but Chespin has earned a place in my heart, in fact, I'd go so far as to say more than Froakie even.

@j.i.m1315 all the starters are good in their own right. Not one of them is better than the other, and even if you wanted one of the other ones as well as one you chose, well, a close alternative is the elemental monkeys you can find in the forest, you can also find a Pikachu there to help against surskuit. There's a litleo if you didn't pick fennekin. There's a psyduck if you didn't pick froakie. I can't think of another alternative for chespin, but there is a riolu on the route next to the gym, and farfetch'd as well(with a 1% chance of finding it just trade a bunnelby for one in santalune city) if you can tell I really like x and y. I no longer have a 3ds though so while i do have the games I cant play it :(

The fact that Farfetch'd is good for a speed run just shows that Pokemon can have values in different ways outside of VGC and Smogon...

I still love X/Y but its definitely the easiest game in the series by far unfortunately. You can have a full team thats very good without ever actually catching a wild Pokemon

So question on the "no spiky shield" wouldn't the same issue happen with Greninja and mat block

i think it only gets mat block at like,, level 60-something, but also it doesn't have priority - so if Lucario outspeeds it (or ohkos with espeed) then it's not an issue

​@@ValunarTonix spiky shield is annoying because it forces another turn, not because it has priority you can still kill greninja on the same turn it uses water shuriken

Dude this was literally the team I had put together back then, except the second one I had a eevee that’s crazy I had one do the most powerful teams without knowing

To be fair, if Farfetch'd wasn't an option, I'm sure runners would still pick Chespin. It absolutely demolishes the first gym with Rollout

This is one of my favorite speedruns done

How do they set up unburden tho? Not like they need it cause of it’s insane speed but still

White Herbs for sky attack, berries, etc.

It’s crazy I still managed to beat the game on my uncle’s save file when he only had venasaur, delphox, Nidoran, and blazaken on his team, I beat the elite four and the champion and I was nine years old, having no prior Pokémon knowledge, after like 3-4 tries… makes no sense dog 🗿
