My favorite part about ariados' stats is that forretress has higher than or equal to it in every single stat. They're equal in attack and speed. Ariados has the power and speed of an extremely slow extremely defense focused pokemon, but without any of the defenses!

I think it is worth noting that if you are playing in the post game, everything is level 60+ so they can evolve and learn moves right away. I decided to make a new team to play through the dlc and stuff like Mienshao was a powerhouse since it could actually evolve. Thank you, Teal Mask, for letting me actually use one of my favorite Pokémon instead of it evolving at LEVEL 50 for NO REASON

@@ImportedCheese I meant that I did a playthrough of the dlc in the postgame of the main game. Instead of using my main game team I swapped them out for DLC mons. But yeah, if your going through a playthrough of the main game with these mons the high level evos/moves are absolutely miserable. Also damn I didn’t expect you to respond, love your vids dude!

I used Illumise in a bug run in X version. She was facing down Siebold's Gyarados, half a dozen levels higher than it. Her Thunderbolt took four hits to knock it out. It took two to KO her. I love Illumise, but man is she bad.

Even today I still don't get why Ninetales doesn't has at least 95 or 110 SpAtk, nor why it's not a Fire/Ghost type when everything around it makes it perfect for the typing (concept, lore and it's even featured on a few places related to Ghost Pokémon on some products)

Fire/Fairy feels more thematically appropriate. They could've easily retconned it as such. I get not making Delphox Fire/Fairy to keep the secondary type triangle with the starters, but with Ninetales there was no excuse

I remember Mightyena being one of my most disappointing Pokèmon, since i started with Gen 3. It looks so badass and cool... and then you find out that it hits like a wet noodle, it has an atrocious movepool and it's not even that bulky save for Intimidate. Completely worthless!

Since the Premium is out now, some general critique for these Tier Lists. The most difficult fights tend to be towards the end of the game, so the performance at the end is very important but most Pokemon are pretty bad early as they need to evolve to gain passable stats, except for fully evolved Pokemon that you get early which stomp the early game but fall off hard towards the end and some special cases. As early on the options are more limited than at the very end of the game and availability is being taking into account that should give a pretty clear hierarchy for the ranking. 1. Early game powerhouses that never fall off (example. Darumaka in Black/White) 2/3. Early game powerhouses that fall off (example Raticate in HG/SS) 2/3. Late game powerhouses that outspeed and ohko everything (example Gible in DPP) 4. Late game powerhouses that setup turn 1 and then outspeed and ohko everything (example Turtwig here or Geodude in every game) 5. Late game powerhouses that go second but ohko everything (example Timbur here) 6. The rest is not that clear but much worse than the first 5 so not that important (sorry Ariados) Setup for late game Pokemon is not as bad as it seems as towards the end the trainers tend to have more than 1 Pokemon: Case 1 enemy Pokemon: Get Hit -> Setup -> Defeat (3 actions for category 4. Pokemon) Get Hit -> Defeat (2 actions for category 5. Pokemon) Case 2 enemy Pokemon: Get Hit -> Setup -> Defeat -> Defeat (4 actions for category 4. Pokemon) Get Hit -> Defeat -> Get Hit -> Defeat (4 actions for category 5. Pokemon) Case 3 enemy Pokemon: Get Hit -> Setup -> Defeat -> Defeat -> Defeat (5 actions for category 4. Pokemon) Get Hit -> Defeat -> Get Hit -> Defeat -> Get Hit -> Defeat (6 actions for category 5. Pokemon) etc. Even Ignoring that your Pokemon are not invincible, for the later part of the game setup sweeper are better than slow strong Pokemon. Second point, I don't think it's a big problem here but in some other Tier Lists the relevant parts of the game that are not the base stats get neglected a bit. Items seem to not be mentioned most of the time despite it being pretty relevant (example in Black White all Grass / Water / Fire types basically have 20% higher offensive stats after the first gym because of the elemental Items) Moves and TM/HM availability also seem to be neglected, most notably in the HG/SS Tier List Feraligators first Physical Water move is Aqua Tail at 58 (so never). It has Crunch and Normal attacks but does not get stab on it (so basically 33% less damage than the stats would lead you to believe). Waterfall is THE ONLY physical HM/TM it can learn which if I remember correctly you get AFTER the 7th Gym so the game is pretty much over. And relevant mandatory battles are also not always being taken into account, for example in Black / White the 4th Gym is the electric gym but the first 2 Pokemon are flying types so immune to ground. Sandile and Drillbur do not have the moves at level 27 (the level of her highest leveled pokemon) to deal with this gym, and Darumaka and Sandile barely do not have the stats. Drillbur only learns Rock Slide at level 29 which with the changed exp system and level 20ish enemies there you are unlikely to be anywhere near in an efficient run as the Tier List is supposed to be for. Sandile only learns Crunch at level 28 and even with Crunch is not that good as it gets outsped Darumaka already knows Fire Punch but gets outsped and only ohkos with a burn at level 27 (unless you possible lie to the girl in the west-most house in Nacrene City to get Charcoal). So Roggenrola (at that point a Boldore) should get credit for being able to get past this mandatory fight without grinding until the better aforementioned Pokemon get past their beginning stages. Third point, you often bring up that Water and Water/Ground are good types. But that is for defense which, unless my boy Bronzong goes to S tier in every list, should not be considered as offense is what matters for your criteria. Water is not very effective against the most abundant type (Water). Grass is super effective against Ground and Rock (same as Water) but instead of one of the rarest types (Fire) it is super effective against the most abundant type (still Water). AND GRASS IS NOT A GOOD OFFENSIVE TYPE The one case that can be made for offensive water is that ignoring water, it is only resisted by grass (which is bad) and dragon (which is the rarest type) so it has "good neutral stab". But so has Normal, and Normal is HORRIB... well it's okay, but definitively not good. (Same with Fire, it is good against Grass, Bug and Ice but so is virtually everything, it has one good super effective target Steel, but is resisted by Water (the most abundant type). Fighting and Ground are much better than Fire. It is okay same as Water but you regularly wear a Charizard costume so I don't think the Fire bias will ever go away) Not sure how negative this sounds, but I do like the videos. Probably would not have watched 7.5 and then 2 more hours of a Tier List for a game I don't even play if it was not entertaining. (Unrelated but as I am typing this comment I can see the view count increase, never knew that that was a thing 708 -> 962 very cool)

You do know you can ride your Bicycle next to a patch of grass and keep beating up Audinos which is almost alwats appearing in a rustling grass patch. Even with the new EXP curve in Gen 5, it settles your Leveling well. Grinding in BW era is almost non existant, even easier in BW2 to do.

To make sure that I don't misremember I just played through Pokemon Black in an efficient manner (not min battles or anything like that but I did not explore the world beyond catching some Pokemon). I got Drilbur and Darumaka as the main candidates to test. Drilbur was in the first slot to either beat the fight alone or get switch trained and if the opponent had more than 1 Pokemon I switched in a filler Pokemon to sacrifice so that I can get Drilbur back in to get the partial experience from as many Pokemon as possible. Darumaka was caught at a much higher level and used in every fight that Drilbur could not win. Despite going through the extra trouble of feeding my Drilbur and Draumaka as much experience as possible I arrived at the 4th gym leader with: Level 22 Drilbur Level 25 Darumaka Level 23 Dewott and 3 Pokemon to sacrifice Nimbasa City is connected to 3 Routes, Route 4 which has no rustling grass, Route 5 and Route 16 which both have Audino from level 19 to 22 After beating some trainers Drillbur got to level 23, encountering Audino took me between 20 seconds to 2 minutes each and it took 9 Audino to get to Level 29. As they are tanky, Drilbur only has Dig (bad because 2 turn move) and Rock Smash as good attacks to hit Audino and secret power can (and has) put Drillbur to sleep, the actual fights take a non negligible amount of time as well. You also have to go to the Pokecenter a few times because Rock Smash only has 15pp. And if the rustling grass is not at the edge of the grass field then you also have to go to the menu to use a repel to not run into wild Pokemon on the way there. There is also only a 85% chance to get Audino, but all 9 rustling grass encounters I had were Audino so probably not that relevant. All in all, it was quicker than I thought (so thanks for bringing it up) but I still think that it can be considered grindy. (also during the run I remembered that you can lie to the starter power up person to get charcoal regardless of what starter you pick, so with Items in mind Darumaka can OHKO the Emolga at Level 25, so Darumaka stays winning I guess)

He mentioned nature and EV training, but I'm pretty sure that was a joke, as such an investment shouldn't even be considered as part of a mons performance, as we *could* then invest in actually good pokemon like Chimchar rather than trying to make garbage look barely edible.

Very funny and enjoyable tierlist throughout, good work! I'm still gonna consider the Turdterra re-ranking as non canon.

With how Indeedee, Combee, and Salazzle have different mechanics tied to their gender, it makes me wonder whey they didn't join Volbeat and Illumise under the same species. Dipplin existing the way it is, is probably the most outrageously unfinished part of the DLC for me. They were halfway done making thr evolution for it but then gave up, left the game data slot for it unoccupied (between Diplin and everything after it there's exactly one empty slot in the internal game data), and still let Diplin keep the eviolite bonus. LITERALLY unfinished evolution line. Which is genuinely a new low lmao Pay up for the actual final stage next DLC i guess. And i guess this is just something people are totally fine with, considering they treat this as a neat trivial thing as opposed to the game being UNFINISHED.

The Torterra Wars were something else. I had to go near the end of this stream so I didn't see the results. Top of C is fine for Torterra. BUT ACTUALLY if you tera flying tera blast you would've KO'ed the Slither Wing!!!!!! Rigged!!!! But yeah obviously it's not worth grinding tera shards for that lmao.

The ariados bit reminds me of stuff i was doing in PokeRogue. My friend was sayibg Ariados is good,but i said no. However hey - i had one in my team since other options were even worse (and i guess Ariados is better than literally.nothing). I even managed to use both agility and swords dance for some 2 times speed and attack! Time to sweep! (Ariados has okay moves at later lvls) The enemy trainer pulled out a Flamigo. I got WALLED AFTER TIMES 2 SETUP by a FLAMIGO. Never tried ariados again. Horrible stats, horrible typing... Fine movepool but it wont save ya.

Moves in general are stronger, and there's many more Fighting attacks than there used to be. Pokemon regularly pick up 70 base power moves as early as level 20 nowadays, and Snorlax being weak to Fighting was purely theoretical prior to gen 4. And Snorlax itself is rarely punching above Body Slam, in a world where a Ghost or Steel type is almost always involved, if not focused on towards endgame.

Just when you thought the Pokédex couldn't get worse.

It always feels weird seeing how bad Ledian and Ariados are in main series games when every rom hack turn these two into early game machines. As a wise man once said, reality is often disappointing. Edit: Also, I don't know why evolution levels are being taken into account here. It makes sense in normal playthroughs but all of the mons you both catch and fight in Kitakami are around the 60-70 range in terms of levels. So even if you do get a Yanma, it is way above the level that it is able to learn Ancient Power so you either have to suck it up for 1 level or use a rare candy and get Yanmega almost instantly. Just a small complaint but I think that it's somewhat warranted.
