    I agree. It IS that simple. If you have trouble keeping things sealed, buy pristine/mint condition sealed products so that it'll discourage you from opening it.

    Funny that this video popped up cause this exactly what i intend to do. And i buy singles to complete my sets anyway so have the patience. Its much better to diversify sets because the growth spurts will be more consistent. Buying something thats already in demand may still go up, but the gain may be lower percentage wise. I was thinking of maybe holding 2-3 of the same box, but have one for 5 years and the other for 10. I just need to make the space for it. Climates pretty humid here so will need to find a safe space there too.

    You only profit if you sell. You may want to factor in selling fees, taxes, etc into your profit estimations. Not to mention you would had to have bought at the best time for each set, and held for five years. Close to no one actually did that. I’m all for the collecting/investing discussion, but the realities of selling things should be included.

  • @JoshGreaves-or1wy

    Agree, I love the poke investing scene and enjoy channels like Colin’s, PK’s, Nomics etc, but they rarely mention the actual selling side. I think it’s because the selling isnt too difficult. These products are super liquid.

  • @PokeMage87

    @PokeMage87

    Ай бұрын

    @@JoshGreaves-or1wy oh yeah, I totally agree everything is super liquid right now. I enjoy all of the content as well by them. I just think that people should be more transparent. For example, if your $90-100 booster box goes to $200. In theory you doubled your money, but after taxes, selling fees, shipping etc it will more likely be 1.5 times your money. Then you have to weigh how long that money was stagnant. Just a lot of nuance that could be touched on.

The gamestop close to my house was selling Crown Zenith ETB's for $63 Canadian. I couldn't resist. I bought some. The truth is that I will likely open most of the ETB's I purchased with my kids. Team Up had a super limited print run with many desirable cards, just like Evolving Skies. I seriously don’t think the same strategy applies to Scarlet & Violet. Of course they will see growth over time, but the market has been diluted so much since SM/SS era and it’s extremely hard for any new individual card to see that kind of growth in the future.

    You aren’t accounting for fees, shipping, etc..Outside of huge increases, still safer to invest in other things. You buy a box for $100, sell it for $300.. depending where you sell it.. you’re losing at least 10-30% on fees and shipping costs (even if you sell it in person, most people only paying 70-80% of value for cash). You’re maybe making 100$-150$? And that’s if it appreciates to 300+ On top of that You had to plant your money there for years, have storage to keep it, and you need to be able to sell the product to realize the gains. Not saying you won’t be making money .. but all these videos try and hype up numbers that aren’t real. This is no different than the made 7 figures selling Pokemon cards.. leaving out that they only profited 7% from it, and .. just misleading .. especially when they had to spend 7 figures for product lol

  • @ThePokeOffice

    @ThePokeOffice

    So, I agree with some of what you’ve said. This is also not my only retirement investing vehicle, so I have money in other stuff too. This is first and foremost a hobby for me. If you gain 300%, sell for 80%, you have still gained 240% so that’s better than most “safer” stocks are going to do. Everything takes time to see gains. The whole video was based on holding for 5-7 years. If you want to see gains, you’ve typically got to plant your money somewhere. Storage is a legitimate issue for people. But this is still a great way to make solid gains and grow your collection / investment in my opinion

    @@Alflloyd64 my point is the it’s misleading in regards to how great it is. You’re not actually making 8k off the 3k investment. Take that 8k and subtract fees, shipping, and taxes ( which you technically paid twice, once to purchase the product and again on the sale/gains). You could easily be at 5k take home. That’s also assuming you get 100% of market value, which again is rare cause in order to offload something like this you’re constantly being undercut, so you at one point have to be one of the lowest out there in order to sell. Additionally you now need space in a climate controlled area to pile 5 years worth of booster boxes.. you also have to actually be able to sell the product, either build a reputation where people are comfortable buying 300+% upcharges on items or consign it which takes a cut of the sale. I have vintage slabs on eBay that have sat there for months, and I’ve decreased the prices like 3-4 times, sent out offers for discount and they don’t move. I can look at my TCG player where I’ve sold a couple hundred dollars this year, and lost over a hundred in fees, and it does not count for the cost of the product, shipping materials, postage, etc.. it’s a fun side thing that without having deep connections to get product below going rates, a ton of free capital to add to the hobby, etc.. it essentially subsidizes the hobby a bit.. but definitely not getting rich off it like a lot of the poke invest in KZread space gives people the illusion of. Traditional investment strategies allow you to be far more liquid (access to the money), allow for compounding interest, and has no storage necessities with guaranteed safety of your money up to a certain amount.. even if your house gets flooded or catches on fire or a kid accidentally knocks them over or opens them, etc. This is a fun side thing, just be careful of the people telling you you’ll be rich or it’s guaranteed money

    Lots of insecurities in this tip. First of all, covid was a huge black swan that made a huge spike in TCGs. There is absolutely no guarantee for such value raises. Pokemon Co printing more or less is a variable that we cannot anticipate. Also looking at old sets and old prices, meh. Maybe youll do good. Maybe not. Anyways thats a lot of cardboard to stock somewhere. And space isnt free either.

    1. Every single Pokemon set in existence has gone up to at least MSRP at some point after release. 2. Same with the stock market - people look at historical data to speculate future. Nothing different here. And with that being said, I totally get that there’s a risk. And space can definitely be an issue, no question. Thanks for the comment

    Basically every swsh set is already beating TFSAs by a long shot. Sure it's riskier but hard to argue with results

    You were probably one the same dummies that said swsh is overprinted and will never have the appreciation to that of sun and moon. Do you enjoy being wrong or are numbers hard for you?

    Covid has been over for 3 years. Logan Paul craze has been over for 3 years. The fact that the pokemon company has been having big profits and continuing to have to print more and more just to meet demand for the last 4 years. Not to mention black rock has recognized collectibles as a alternative asset. It could use a little pull back but it's gonna keep having healthy growth bud

    While I believe theirs more complexities to this than the video showed, the point of buying all sets over time is to allow for a few losses cause you will possibly hit on others. Usually the losses aren’t going down to 0$ so if you lost let’s say 50$ a box on those two sets but all other sets appreciated in value, you’d still make money over all.
