"you could now battle, trade with, and piss off your friend on the other side of the world" is maybe the best standalone line in all of these retrospective videos lmao. Love the content man!

when you realize Turtwig is the Leaf Pokemon instead of the Turtle Pokemon to fit the naming the species of the starters to the animals they are based on.

thanks for mentioning the most evil villain in the Pokemon franchise this game introduced: Mindy. Fire types and the lack of good ice types for early game were really a problem. I dislike Sinnoh and find it very boring, but the amount of potential was the reason I looked forward for a remake and hoped GF would take the criticism of ORAS to heart. That is what I hoped before SwSh launched. After that I had no hopes, I knew the remakes would have a limited Pokedex. But they went even further making it look less impressive than Let's Go visually. What I can say however is that the intro animation and outro of Gardenia and some other trainers were beautiful, but then I found out they did my girl Candice dirty. She looks like a plastic toy and acts no different than a lifeless NPC. And like the Gen 6 games onwards, Legendaries are stuffed into one random place where you travel through a random room with cardridges like through the Hoopa Ring and Ultra Wormhole. Weird games honestly. I find the amount of glitches funny especially since it got a day one patch. You can softlock the game in various ways, break the game and beat by fighting minimum of 1 Galactic Grunt and even perform a spiritual successor to the Void Glitch which allowed some to catch the currently unobtainable Shaymin. Flower Paradise is in the code, but you can't access it through intended gameplay. Masuda wants to add it as DLC later on it seems. Not sure if it will be paid or if they want us to get a Nintendo News Letter subscribtion. Edit: Glad I am not the only one who thinks Palkia looks like the dude under my pant. Just ugly. One of the reasons I don't like Pearl but that game and its remake is the only one where you can get Glameow. Perhaps in HGSS you can find it too but thats still 12 years until you can catch a cat that can turn into a fat one named purugly.

The day one patch is weird. It seems that it's at least half as big as the game on the cartridges, and the change log says that it implements post-game content like the Ramanas Park, and apparently the some of the music was replaced and it added the opening and ending movies, which are things that you'd expect would be ready by the time the games were ready to get packed for retail. The remakes as a whole sound like they were a messy project, with either time or management issues, or even both.

Pokemon Pearl is one of the very, VERY few games I've ever pre-ordered. Got the fancy credit card looking pre-order card, and fancy Pearl-themed stylus and everything. Mind you, this was after I missed out on Gen 3. I was a massive fan of Gen 1 and 2. I played Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, AND Silver, multiple times. But when Gen 3 came along, my dumb kid brain asked my parents for Pokemon Fire Red instead, thinking IT was the new generation game. Wasn't until I got home that I realized it was just a remake (though I still enjoyed it). Because of Fire Red, I actually didn't even realize Ruby and Sapphire existed until after Diamond/Pearl came out. And at that point, I wasn't really buying GBA games as much, sticking to buying games for my shiny new DS. So I was waiting extra long for a new generation to come out. I was hyped as hell when I saw Diamond/Pearl get announced. Gen 4 is also my favorite generation of Pokemon. I spent countless hours on the old Nintendo NSider forums, trading Pokemon, trying to get a full Dex. I even had an Action Replay for my DS that I used to clone Pokemon for trades. I never cheated myself new Pokemon, only cloning legit Pokemon, and I always told people they were clones before trading, so I wasn't like, swindling people or anything. But it was a good deal, because the more I traded, the more I had to clone, to do even more trades. My DS and copy of Pearl eventually got stolen, which suuuucked. I had all of Gen 1 and 4, most of Gen 2, and a decent chunk of Gen 3. Along with a few different variations of Deoxys, and a handful of shinies. ------- I think the whole idea of version-exclusive Pokemon was fine, up until Gen 4. Once ONLINE trading became a thing, the entire point of version-exclusive became...well...pointless. It was originally there as a way to get people to trade using the link cable. Meeting up with other people in real life, to trade version exclusives, and get those trade evos. It came from the idea of wanting to trade rare loot in Dragon Quest, but being unable to do so, and they thought it'd be a neat idea. But once Online trading was added, you didn't need a link cable anymore. You didn't even need to be in the same country as someone else. You could go on a forum, find someone that had what you needed, and trade. Version-exclusives became almost entirely non-existent when you could get them super easily. It became even more pointless when the later gens came out that added a full proper online trading without even needing friend codes, and wonder trading was added. Like, it doesn't even make sense from a sales perspective anymore. No one's going out and buying two copies of the same game to get 5-6 exclusives that they can get online anyway. It was a neat idea that I actually liked back in the day because my friend and I would trade. But it's just gone on way too long. There's literally no need for two versions of the same game to exist anymore. It's just a carry-over from the link cable days to try and get extra money.

Diamond and Pearl are the first Pokemon games that just bored me to tears and I couldn't even finish them because I was just bored the whole way. My roommate got me one of the remakes, Pearl I think and it's honestly a bad game, at least HGSS kept all the enhancements the 3rd version had and added more content to it. the BDSP remakes were just Diamond and Pearl except I was almost 20 levels overleveled just by playing the game normally.

BDSP are trash. Just play Platinum or Renegade Platinum (rom hack) for maximum sinnoh experience.

For me the Sinnoh games are the most "whatever" games in the franchise. That was the exact point where I stopped caring about Pokémon games... well, more or less, because I was obsessed with Colosseum and XD. Those games showed me what Pokemon could be, and what did I have in the mainline games? More of the same, but with ugly new Pokemon. That last thing was pretty unfair by my part, but that's how I thought at the time. While I can still remember 5th gen for the badly executed plot, the 6th gen for how easy they are and the 7th one for the new ideas they had, the 4th one just sits there. Coincidentally, I own at least one game of each gen, except for the 4th one (I have SoulSilver but that's a remake).

Colosseum was weird for me. On one hand, it lacked a lot of the extra functionality that Stadium came with, which I thought really enhanced the experience of playing Gen 1 back when I was much younger. But on the other hand, it was a different take on the series that got expanded further in XD. Oh yeah, and then there was Battle Revolution. Christ, I completely forgot it even existed.

@@MerryBytes I noticed recently that the reason why I can't bother with Pokemon anymore is that single battles bore me. They are fine when you are battling another person, but versus an IA, I just can't anymore. Double battles in the other hand are still fun. Colosseum and XD aren't really comparable to Stadium in my opinion, that would be Battle Revolution, which presentation wise has some cool stuff, but overall yeah, it's pretty lackluster.

Nah, you're right, Stadium is a different beast from Colosseum and XD. Those two are their own singleplayer adventures, whereas the Stadium games are more like companion games for Gen 1 and 2.
