I personally like seeing trade evolutions! I always use the setting on the universal pokemon randomizer to "change impossible evolutions" so they all become levelup or stone evolutions. If the NPCs can use trade evolutions, I think we should be allowed to do the same :)

Trade Evolutions may be strong but they are still balanced. If you are allowed to theoretically use a Dragonite, Garchomp or Tyranitar you should be allowed to use Alakazam, Gengar or Dusknoir. In some Games you could talk about a ban if they are guaranteed encounters, but as a whole you should be allowed to use the full spectrum of non-legendary Pokemons especially in Monotype-Challenges.

Honestly? Instead of a blanket Legendary ban, I usually implement a BST-based ban with some flexibility. Pokémon with a BST of 600 or below are always allowed with the exception of mystery gift Pokémon, the QR code Magearna from Sun and Moon, etc. Regigigas and Slaking are also allowed because of their garbage abilities. This also has the side-effect of banning most Megas, though I do additionally ban Mega Gengar in XY and Mega Alakazam and Mega Medicham in ORAS. This means that Abomasnow is the only legal Mega in XY and only Beedrill, Pidgeot, Slowbro, Pinsir, Heracross, Mawile, Sableye, Altaria, Banette, and Absol are legal Megas in ORAS.

my method of evolving trade evo's is "after 3rd evo" meaning 3 or more of my pokemon need to level up to their 2nd stage evolution before I trade evolve. It makes me care more for the "weaker" pokemon since they become required for me to gain access to the evolution. I also tend to try and build a team that it can slot into rather than trying to build around it. There have been times that I've skipped out on golem because graveler aestetically fit into the team better. Has lead to me enjoying each step of the evolution tree a lot more than just seeing them as a stepping stone to a "strong pokemon" Had a time where I had starter evolved, regional bird evolved, and richu, got alakazam for the team and was HYPED. Lost Richu to a battle, had to box alakazam until I could get another evolution. It made me feel like the butterfree I got then, was like a hero to my team, coming to comfort my starter and pidgeot, and give alakazam the strength to continue on. when alakazam sacrificed itself at the champion to give butterfree the safe swap in for status set up, I imagined him being like "inspire the next generation, help them grow, be their guide, I'll be watching you" Such an emotional champion match, which to me I felt was a HUGE benefit to the playthrough.

Great vid as always! Regarding trade evolutions, I think it’s definitely more fun to have them available because it leads to more team diversity and shows off a pokemon you wouldn’t normally see in a play through. However, I think having some kind of delay prior to evolving them helps keep things fair. Like if you evolve a Kadabra into Alakazam at level 16, that really trivializes the early game having such a phenomenal attacker to sweep through everything with. Waiting until you get a certain number of gym badges, or a certain level would solve that potential issue. Just my 2 cents

Okay, so having a BST 500 mon like Gengar or Alakzam at around Level 16 which is usually the second gym is fine? Bear in mind that your starters BST is 405-420 depending on the Gen's. Having ~100 more BST means your ether hitting Way harder, or tanking hits to where even 2 or 3 crits in a row might not actually do anything to your team? Why do you think certain trade items are ether late game, or their associated mons are accessible in later routes?

  • @Nuclearstomp

I didn't explain very well I guess. I meant even if you have the correct evolution item, add a restriction anyway just in case, like needing a certain badge #. I forgot a lot of Gen 1 mons evolve just by trading. I'm always under the assumption that you generally aren't evolving your trade mon midgame unless you're playing a rom hack.

The creativity and humor in your videos genuinely just keep increasing! Love the work you do. Your channel is absolutely a favorite of mine! Also, I’d say trade evos are fine! As it’s been previously commented, i feel like it helps with variety. Also, Gengar’s my favorite so I’d love to see more of them because I’m biased.

Just wanted to say thank you for all your videos and the effort you put into all of them. At the moment I‘m going through a pretty bad breakup and I have one your videos running all the time because they‘re fun to watch and your commentary is both entertaining and soothing to me, plus it‘s nice to have something else to think about. So thank you so much for helping me through this bad time. I‘m looking forward to every video of you! Sorry if my English is bad, I‘m German.

I like seeing trade evolutions personally, me and some friends do what we call "Pheonix Evolutions" which is not allowing trade evolutions to evolve until they would die, and giving them a second chance at life. It lowers the difficulty a bit which is fine for casual nuzlockers.

Love the videos mati! One thing I’d like to see in future challenges is matching the level cap to each individual e4 member. I mean we’re using rare candies anyway, might as well use them between matches so that the first member isn’t always so trivial. Also I like seeing the trade evos as long as they’re evolved at an appropriate level (i.e. not immediately after evolving into their second stage)

If you're using rare candies anyways, why not change the level cap as you progress through the Elite Four? So you'd face Aaron with a level cap of his strongest, then Bertha with a level cap of her strongest, etc. I suggest this because I noticed you often mention the first few members are pushovers

For me personally, I only like seeing trade evolutions if there aren’t too many encounters available. In videos like these with so many options already, there doesn’t seem a need for it as it is then taking a slot away from a Pokémon you would find naturally. But in runs where there’s less than, say, 10 encounters I don’t tend to mind. But at the end of the day it’s fine whatever you choose to do :)

I’m really torn on the issue of trade evos! On one hand they are really cool and I like seeing them in Nuzlocks (I personally use them in mine). However, I also really appreciate and “respect” when they aren’t used, because they are very good. Sometimes even OP arguably. Though kind of messy and not ideal, I really like Uncle JimTendo’s versions where they replace trade evos with other evo methods. Making it so you can’t just auto evo them after they get to second stage and have to survive until they can reach final form. Though I could see where that’s hard to explain in a video. Love your vids, keep it up!

@@nowheregiirl8115 Fast Pokémon are balanced by having lower stats elsewhere (like sweepers, which are fast but fragile). Likewise, slow Pokémon are balanced by having higher stats elsewhere. A perma trick room would make Pokémon with low speed but otherwise high stats incredibly broken. Imagine a Snorlax, Rhyperior, or Metagross with 120+ base speed. To put it another way, in perma trick room most fast Pokémon would be useless, and slow Pokémon that are already strong would become literally the only Pokémon worth using.

I think for trade evolutions it's not about them being trade evoultions the problem some people have is that they are very strong and can trivialise certain parts of games as you can get them quite early on. I'd say treat them like you do pokemon such as Gyrados, Snorelax, ect. Use them occasionally, when you need to for a challenge or if you are simpily feeling like using them. Provided you aren't spaming them or using them consistently as cheap tricks I think we will all enjoy watching still. TLDR: At the end of the day I trust my bus driver to get me home and you to give me the pokemon content I enjoy.

Great intro. I know the nicknames are just the species names backwards, but they kinda sound like Soulsborne boss names to me, lol. Also, cue me screenshotting that letter and desperately changing the colors and lighting and contrast to get as much of the Nosey lore as possible. Edit: I'm cool with allowing trade evolutions! If you're worried they might be too powerful, you could maybe enforce a level requirement for them. Like, maybe you're not allowed to trade evolve them until they're at least level 40 or so? Something like that.
