One time I fell off a cliff and forgot to get on braviary and took a bit of fall damage. I landed next to a chansey, they usually run from you, but since I was hurt it came next to me, to check if I was alright. I think things like these made this my favorite pokemon game.

There are so many little things like this in Arceus that make it one of my favorites, from the dex to how if you actually learn about the pokemon it makes it easier to find them, to how pokemon keep their sizes when caught and can be bigger or heavier, there's just so much that's just SO GOOD. And it blows me away because the Dex itself, the pokemon that made the cut TO THIS GAME, is not really a roster of my favorites. It was one of my big worries coming in, that there wouldn't be a lot of interesting pokemon besides the new ones for me to catch, I was so happy to be wrong.

I kinda wish I never gave my copy to my neice, lol. The game slowly got tedious because I had to catch all these Pokemon, and starting a battle felt more tedious than actually trying to catch them unnoticed. The battles were stupidly easy, and I had to constantly change my team to stop overlevelling from all the catches. The levels felt meaningless.

On my first playthrough of the game all of my Pokémon got wiped out by that Rapidash. After my starter went down, I was like “Damn, I guess this means I’ll be back at the camp to try again now, huh?” That didn’t happen. Instead, the battle interface simply went away and left me without Pokémon right in front of that giant Rapidash as it readied a flamethrower. “…Oh.” That’s when I realized this game would be completely different, and I’m all for it.

Arlo is enjoyable, but theres a lot of moments during the video where im like, "okay, that is a good change, or that is a good feature.... but you totally skip over the issues with it." Like for instance, praising the battle changes, without mentioning that its complete chaos when the turn order is a complete mystery because it only shows the turn order based on your own actions and not that of your opponent, making any kind of strategy/planning a dice roll (probably why they didnt include PVP).

I played that game for countless hours, and I can't even play Violet for 2 hours without needing a break due to boredom. The story is meh, whereas Arceus had an amazing story for a Pokemon game.

Another thing (which might be minor for most people) I like about PLA is that it is a single game, instead of two versions. Breeding not being in the game actually works really well for the "gotta catch em all" thing the game has going on (being like the original Red/Blue). If you catch a Raichu, you can't just go and make a quick Pichu egg. No, you have to go and search for a Pichu, which are quite rare. There really isn't a need for breeding in the game anyway since the hidden stats are gone,

Breeding actually would have been good for manipulating natures and getting rarer Pokemon more easily. Classic Pokemon is just way better because you could customize your stats however you want and making stats detrimental actually had benefits such as lowered confusion damage, trick room, and guard split, now it's just basic as crap. Even in previous Pokemon games you didn't have to worry about stats casually so I don't see how it's such a good thing for it to change.

I hope they just incorporate those mechanics into the next generation instead. GF doesn’t really have the resources to work on multiple games, and generations are locked into a 3 year deadline no matter what. S/V has performance issues and while a delay would’ve helped, it also would’ve helped if they didn’t have what few employees they have working on other projects. Especially for their first actual open-world game. Although I’m not against diving in the history of other legendary/mythical Pokémon, but they didn’t really have much info on the Pokémon themselves. It was more about the people and how they worship them as deities. Interesting, but I was expecting a lot more than what they gave, story-wise. The game is titled after Arceus and he’s mostly a quest-giver with little involvement until the end.

It looks like a gamecube gane but still has horrible performance issues, frame rate drops random momentary freezes, assets popping in and out, npc jittering around, etc. Honestly the animations and art are also incredibly disappointing for a game of this size, there are low res repeating textures just copy pasted and stretched over huge chunks of the terrain. Even if you throw out the performance and art issues, the game itself is underwhelming so far, mainline pokemon badly needs a refresh and a team of people that are actually excited to work on it. It was at this moment, as my team was wiped and I learned that the game DOES NOT WHITE YOU OUT that I began dodging like a madman as this massive stag beetle comes chasing me down a hill, through a valley, that I asked myself, "Wait, can I heal my pokemon and go back in?" Turns out, the answer is yes, AND that pokemon will have THE SAME HEALTH as it did when you left off. So I smoke bombed and hid in that tall grass for a moment, stitched and patched every wound I could, dove back onto that Heracross and caught him in a pitched second battle and/or another retreat and a heavy ball to the skull. But the important part was that first half, and how I will not forget how absolutely cool that was, and how much I want to do that again, in every pokemon game, from now till the end.

@@bantuboi3131 hmm I find that fascinating bc I never care to catch all the Pokémon in any of the games. Ursaluna was pretty easy to catch for me, and once I got up to a high enough level, a lot of Pokémon stopped attacking me. I would say anything level 30 and below stopped attacking me. And I just got all my evolution items in those space-time zones (forgot what they were called). For me, I don’t play the games to catch Pokémon, I play to be immersed in the Pokémon world. I wanna be my own version of ash. I do wish there would’ve been an elite 4 or more towns to explore, but it makes sense that there wouldn’t be since this is explaining the genesis of the Pokémon trainer starting in the hisuian region before it was renamed to sinnoh. To me it makes perfect sense why it’s a bunch of sinnoh Pokémon, kind of like dynasty periods in imperial Japan’s history. But what do you mean by “genie”? You mean like landorus and them? I admit they were a challenge to catch, but I enjoyed the challenge. But since it wasn’t common for Pokémon to get along with humans, I think it makes sense why a lot would attack you. Just like how you never try to mess with wild life in their habitat in real life. Idk, I guess we have very different desires when it comes to Pokémon games. And I’m cool with that. From a technical standpoint, I think everyone will agree that LA functions so much better than gen 9 games.

The two story moments that hit the hardest for me were when the Town ousted you because they believed you were destroying Time Space, especially as Benji was a massive Bigot and when you find out Volo had been grooming you. Seriously that last one has stuck with me. Legends Arceus wasn't afraid to tell a more mature narrative something I hope we see in future Spin Offs heck even Mainline.

With Volo being obviously Cynthia's ancestor we kinda assumed that he was just a good (although a bit odd) guy, which made the reveal much more shocking. PLA is a combination of mystery dungeons story, breath of the wilds open world, and the visuals of Pokémon. My only critique is that there’s next to no trainer battles in the story and the ones that are have very few pokémon that are likely a bit to way under leveled. I know it could work with the story, trainers are new in this setting, but it’s a place they could’ve shown growth in people and their trust in pokémon by the end of the game.

I really love the art style, gameplay and the pokemons there, Hisuian Goodra being my absolute favourite Mon. I think the game is represented by the sentence: "There is beauty in simplicity" and it truely is beautiful, even if the graphics are not that amazing, they are still better than what old games had. Arlo's enthusiasm for the catching/stealth mechanics in this game really mirrors my own. I disliked the way let's go did catching, but arceus just did it perfectly. Between that and the way pokemon react to you, including even being able to attack you directly (especially when it's the scary alpha pokemon lol), it makes the world feel so much more real. I am excited for the open world in scarlet and violet, but without those features from arceus it does kinda feel like a step backwards. I hope they make more arceus style games in the future.

About time! P:LA is an evolution of the Pokémon franchise not seen since… well… ever. Never before has Pokémon departed from its core formula and experimented this much, and even with the game being somewhat rushed, I can say with confidence that it succeeded. All the mechanics mesh together amazingly into a well-defined experience that is new, yet stays uniquely Pokémon. While this game is certainly not without its faults, it’s an overall good game in a way that a Pokémon game hasn’t been in a long time; in this game, there are more pros than cons rather than the equal-pros-and-cons or worse of the games from the past 3 gens. One of the only truly sad things about this game in my opinion is that it could have been a masterpiece if given another year of development time, but that’s just the story of games developed over at TPC these days and there isn’t much we can do about it other than complain a lot lol

I think the last truly experimental pokemon game was Coloseum and that was mainly because instead of capturing wild pokemon you steal them from other trainers to rescue them, and every battle was a double battle with the bosses using competitive viable strats. (Nothing too broken but facing a rain team even if it didn't spam thunder is still quite the step up from normal pokemon) But PLA is definitely the nost experiment pokemon game yet, and even if im not 100% on everything i love the overall concept and fully support experimentation and hope that we get more legends series. (I also head canon that the player in legends is the player from platinum after they became champion)

So with Scarlet and Violet not continuing with the formula of Legends: Arceus, I'm hoping that it will mean that we can get more Legends games in the future. Personally, I think that this is a good thing. Keep the formula unique for a series of partially mainline, partially spinoff games that let us partially explore the lore of previous regions. We can see what the Original Dragon looked like before it split into Kyurem, Zekrom, and Reshiram. We can see the first Darkest Day as Zacian and Zamazenta work to stop Eternatus the first time (just imagine going full Attack on Titan against Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon). We can see the war that caused Ho-Oh to give birth to Raikou, Zekrom, and Suicune. The possibilities are endless.
