Lmao I actually had the same thing happen to me. I was facing off against Rayquaza in Ruby, it was at full HP and sleeping because of Rest and I threw a Pokeball just for laughs and to my surprise I caught it.

Hard to imagine now that back in 2003, Rayquaza was just "the extra legend", the legend with little to no plot significance (for now), that you find in a secluded spot on the map in the post game, with little to no indication that it was there or that it even existed, but it's there, it's waited for you, and now it's gonna fight you, and you better be ready.

Imagine this: You grew up with the RSE games. You’ve seen on KZread all the cool mystery gift events you never got to try since your parents never took you to get them. Then ORAS comes out. You’re absolutely clueless about anything regardless the Delta Episode. You go through it, and when Rayquaza destroys the meteorite, you see that fucking triangle move in a way that sends you back to 2006 when you first saw the Deoxys event you never got to do. Your hype levels begin to skyrocket as *that OST* starts to kick in. That’s why the Delta Episode is one of the greatest things in the entire series. It brought a fan favorite character in Zinnia and lead to some of the most unforgettable moments fucking ever.

I panicked when he battled it without saving the game first. 😂

I’m in the same boat. Just because I can use a legendary that I caught, doesn’t mean I should use it in the Pokémon league. And besides, all that training with one of the Pokémon that I had will have gone to waste.

QOTD back then in Ruby, it was quite a tough battle I didn't even know Sky Pillar exist in the first place, until my friend told me to find it beside Pasificlog Town, which I though were blocked by stones as soon as I enter Sky Pillar, I took several months to clear the puzzle there (Acro Bike was my favorite, so I never changed it to Mach Bike until this experience) then I met Rayquaza... I constantly battle, reset, battle, reset, battle reset, just because of how powerful it was, my party were simply unprepared at that time, all of them were low leveled and I don't have a good amount of healing items one of those resets, I found the black one... because of how different it was, I trust myself to not reset it again, up until... 57th(?) turn I guess, I can't remember because if was 12 years ago, Rayquaza's health bar on orange, all of my Hyper Ball storage were used, unsure if it would work or not (because I didn't know what it's used for), I blindly used Timer Ball instead, because I thought regular ones or Great Ball must be failed, turns out I caught it... that's the most memorable Rayquaza catch for me I caught the one in Emerald lot easier I haven't encountered one in my Heart Gold gameplay yet Alpha Sapphire were too easy (and we HAVE to catch it in order to progress the story) I don't have Ultra games and in Max Lair, it's really easy

Rayquaza is like a diving board each step builds excitement for the next one, getting higher and cooler but gets to the top at Ultra sun and moon and then takes a graceful swan dive into mediocrity

QOTD: Took me a few Solar Beams to figure out it somehow negated Drought when I was young and fighting it in Emerald.

i like how emerald made a sneaky reference to Rescue team by changing the battle background in the rayquaza fight look like the Sky Tower background.

Don't worry. You can even use cheats and I honestly wouldn't mind, its your game.

The bells that ring at the start of rayquaza's theme is for all who've fallen trying to defeat this pokemon

If I saw Requeza in real life I'm probably get bone chilling excited and get a master or ultra ball ready and if he didn't allow me catch it well might well accept being killed

So this wasnt with rayquaza but with kyogre, and it took 3 hours and so many resets to catch, ultra ball after ultra ball then i misclicked the pokeball and it worked... I was so mad

I can feel you on that one I challenge myself one time in Pokemon Crystal to see if I could catch Suicune inside of a pokeball. I had it paralyzed down to one HP it took my final pokeball to finally catch it.

i like that the idea in Emerald is that when you first meet with Rayquaza, the entire area is clean and suited to "sleep" on and once Rayquaza wakes up and yells at both Groudon/Kyogre, Rayquaza is SO mad that it destroys everything around it because it woke up grumpy which is why the layout changes

QOTD: my first rayquaza battle was in AS and I threw a quick ball which worked first try. Named it RAWR. I also have one in shield named RAWR Jr.

My sevond favorite legendary only beaten by mewtwo, such a great pokemon with an awesome design and awesome origins.
