Unbeatable is my 3 fav theme.

Even though Torkoal does suck, it’s kinda surprising that Ash’s weakest hoenn Pokémon almost defeated one of the strongest frontier brain’s Pokémon.

1:27 “he’s far more advanced” As you can see the quote shows that the character “Ash” from the Pokémon Advanced anime series is stronger and a better trainer then how he was in the original series “Pokémon” (released in 1997). This quote is also joke that uses word play and references the title of the anime series “Pokémon Advanced” (released in 2002). Edit: yes this is what I decided to do with my time.

I remember my brother thought Ash was stupid for bringing out his Swellow against Latios in the Sinnoh League when by game standards Staraptor could do everything Swellow could do and better. It was so long since Advanced I almost believed him to, but then I rewatched a couple episodes and it made Latios seem even more OP after taking down this monster of a Swellow in my eyes.

He needs to keep his promise to pidgeot, Goodra and Greninja should have gone to oak's with the rest of the kalos team (them leaving was just unacceptable, especially Goodra the second time) and Naganadel should never have left after the league. That was so forced

After Johto felt like Pokemon going through the motions, Advanced Generation felt like a breath of fresh air with new concepts actually showing skill with Ash and one of his companions being given an actual goal to strive for in May. The lack of a true rival for Ash, the underwhelming villain stuff, Brock becoming more static and Max being obnoxious keep it from being higher than it should be. Feel D&P was Advanced Generation but improved in all areas and X&Y would do the child companion right in Bonnie.

The series was criminally underrated and has a special place in my heart and brought best girl May and the best region, though I would’ve loved to see more Steven

Just a side note, but this series actually confirms that Ash being 10 forever is nothing more than a gag from the developers, because during his training for the final fight against Brandon, he says to his Kanto starters "After all these years." He says years, as in plural, meaning by this point he has been on a journey for at least 2-3 years, which confirms that he does in fact age and that the narrator is just joking with us now.

it was also hilarious whenever someone stole May's food. i think she was more comedic when angry than Misty was. please don't hate me but i honestly liked May way more than Misty. Misty just constantly abused Ash and Brock so let's just say she is no where near my favorite female companion, i don't hate her i just feel she's overrated.

Misty was another instance of the 90s effort to make female characters not super girly by going in the complete opposite direction by being straight up mean and exaggeratedly tomboyish. Its still a thing now, but not nearly as bad as these kinds of characters come across as somewhat less cynical and not abusive.

If I watched Advance as a kid i would've had a crush on May too but i grew up on Diamond and Pearl Era though I'm not gonna lie when I was young i did have a bit of a crush on Dawn i didn't watched Advance till I was in my teen years i also watched a bit of XY as an adult and it was interesting.

This series had some sad episodes like the ralts episode and that time travel episode

I always pictured Max having a Galade since he is more battle focused.

AG holds a very special place in my heart. It's because of this series that I like to restart and move to a new place, and leave things behind.

Can i just say Ash's design in this i loved

I almost stopped watching pokemon after the original trio separated. But I gave it a try and really love it. The contest thing was something new. May had a goal and a great character development. And I like Max don't know why people hate him. And of course Brock. Only negative point is that it didn't noticed properly on Ash that much, lack of rivals, but his pokemon were great. And of course the best was Battle Frontier which provided homage to Ash's old pokemon. Eagerly waiting for this and of course my favourite sinnoh region

I like Max too. And I definitely loved May's character development. To not liking Pokemon, to not knowing what she wanted to do, to discovering Pokemon contests and progressively become a better coordinator. She's definitely one of the most overlooked characters. I enjoy her more than Dawn.

@@RaidPirateGaming Yeah, I remember I was just as invested in May's journey as Ash's, so Dawn replacing her felt to me felt like what Tracey replacing Brock must've felt to everyone else. Sinnoh lasted a longer than most other series, so I got used to Dawn, even grew to like her a lot, but still preferred May and her team over Dawn's.

A part of me always loved how we now had 4 traveling companions so episodes could split focus on subsections of the group 4 ways and in different combinations, like Ash and Max are more into battling and exploring Pokemon while May and Brock are more into shopping and exploring tourist attractions. Yes, I found Max annoying, but I didn't mind it because little kids are annoying. I could even relate to his struggles a bit back then even though he really should've had his own Pokemon, at least in the Battle Frontier. Or imagine if Max returned in ORAS and completely took Sawyer's role as the analytical trainer who adopted Ash's battle style by literally following in his footsteps. I so would've been down for more Max as the series continued.

@@JakeSmith-mq5dc Pretty much the reason I was fine with Max. It’s too be expected XD. Bonnie was less bratty sure, but girls do tend to mature faster than boys for the most part. And even then she still had her bratty moments too. That said, I do get the frustration people have with him stealing the badge. That was definitely his worst moment.

A definite negative is the complete lack of rivals for Ash. Yes, Advanced Battle introduces Morrison but the Hoenn League is right around the corner and Tyson is another rival who is introduced at the start of the League. Because of the format the Battle Frontier didn’t have rivals, but because it was only a season long and also had May doing Kanto contests the filler was very cut down. A big positive is that Ash really steps up his game, going out of his way to teach his team members new moves based on what he sees other Pokemon using (Iron Tail and Bullet Seed) or honing less controllable techniques like Snorunt’s Ice Beam. He also asked for a rematch with Wattson since their original battle was so one-sided in Ash’s favour due to circumstances, something he’d never have done during the Indigo League.

@@eljordinio7647 I still to this day can't get over the voice change. It's not even the Ash voice itself because the actress has made it her own at this point. It's more of the decrease in quality with the script writing that bothers me. I mostly watched XY in japanese because of the Ash/Greninja theme and I could take the Japanese performance overall more seriously. This is because these VAs are the ones from the beginning and it shows. Mewtwo original voice returning in Japanese makes me a little envious because we likely will never get the same experience. I wasn't even in the mood to see Misty's return because I knew she wouldn't have the old voice.

Tom taking part in the AG review. Given a certain twitter thread recently, that's honestly appropriate. Honestly, the thing i find criminally underrated is Ash's Glalie. Many people don't talk about it. I mean, it survived a double battle against 2 fire types AND KOs a Charizard on its own. And it was the one that helped Ash beat Morrison. The writers just did it dirty, man. Here's to the Sinnoh anime review. My personal fave season.

Actually, the very first double battle happened in the Orange Islands when Ash fought against the fourth member of the Orange Crew. Granted the rules were a bit different as Ash would have lost if even one of his two Pokémon (Pikachu and Charizard) lost, and I don’t think double battles returned until the Advanced Saga where they used the rules we’re more familiar with.

"I wanna be a hero" is still one of my favorite Pokemon opening themes and is my favorite Advanced opening theme.

I miss the part where he usually says “what’s up Lumiose Trainer, Lumiose Trainer Zac here.”☹️

Totally agree that this is an extremely underrated series! Still my favorite to this day. One thing that I noticed while watching this is just how good it was setting up why I think it's perfect:the fact that they made both Ash and May lose to their og rival at the end of the series. It sets up for how much we see them evolve as trainers in their fields in the next series which only adds to "advancing".

This show is the main reason I love Sceptile so much

Angsty Ash was my favorite part. He just got so bland afterwards always playing the nice guy. I was so glad when he got some of it back in SM only for him to lose his personality again in Journeys. Although I'd still say he was at his cockiest in Johto, especially in that grass Pokemon tournament episode.

@@eljordinio7647 I know that, I'm just poking fun at the lack of proper pause between sentences around 4:05-4:15 where it transitions from talking about Swellow to Sceptile and there is just absolutely NO segue and it sounds like it refers to the best bird, Sceptile.

I really loved this series i absolutely loved sceptile's personality swellow and glaile were cool and powerful the only problems were torkoal who always lost and cried but atleast it had a memorable personality and ash didn't really have a rival in this series like he met morrison late in the series and tyson right before the league

I really love Ash’s team in this series. Sceptile is just godlike, Swellow is Ash’s strongest Flying Type, Corphish is very strong and has a great personality, and Glalie seemed cool, but unfortunately was a late capture. The only problem is Ash’s all time worst mon, Torkoal.

Torkoal was cool in game, VGC, and that dope battle against Registeel. But on Ash's team, it sucked hard(also Staraptor, Charizard, Dragonite, God Rowlet would like to disagree.). But in league Swellow carried with Glalie.

Exactly Sceptile probably got the most development and was the strongest but Swellow Corphish Glalie are pretty good as well but Torkoal..is Torkoal

just wanna say if that ralts episode happened earlier in the series and somebody caught ralts for max- he would have been *epic*

Honestly, ash’s swellow is my favorite of his flying type Pokémon. It seriously had some of the best battles in the series and was a reliable pokemon for ash. I’ll admit im a staraptor guy myself, but I can’t deny how awesome ash’s swellow was

To add details about that infamous episode (S7 E30 Balance Of Power): While Max’s crying over his father losing to Ash veers into wangst-territory due to him overreacting, his Broken Pedestal can come off as tear jerking. Max seen his father as his idol, someone who is perfect and can never lose or make mistakes. Seeing his father lose and not showing any sadness about it must have triggered Max into getting upset and taking Ash’s badge away, due to being in denial of his father losing. *This also may be the implied reason as to why Norman doesn’t allow his kids to watch his gym battle.* Thankfully, everyone gets Max to face reality and realize that losing is a part of being a gym leader.

The Advanced Series is one of my favorites of Pokemon.

Unpopular opinion - I actually liked Max as a travel companion. He was my favorite it AG because he made friends with all the coolest pokemon

Personally, I loved both Ash's Swellow, but, more so, Ash's Sceptile in this generation, especially the Arc Sceptile had during the Battle Frontier: From when it evolved from Grovyle to Sceptile and couldn't use its attacks afterwards due to heartbreak, to the episode where it bonds more with Ash and is basically revived in a sense, and, finally, it wins Ash the symbol at the Battle Palace. Those three episodes were great, and made me hooked on Sceptile even to this day.

Would've been awesome if Wally or Brendan's "anime counterpart" was introduced in the anime as Ash's rival.

I loved this review! While I did spoil the series for myself, I did know that this series was really cool! I would rate Advanced Generation an 8.2/10 because it has so many great aspects to it and it experimented with a lot of concepts that became batter in later series.

Man, AG was the great shit I'm into back then. I always love May and she's still my favorite character. Theme songs here are a banger, especially Advanced Battle's OP. It has some best and hilarious episodes I enjoyed back then.

Pokémon Advanced! Damn, I remember waking up one morning and watching that special preview for AG on Kid's WB. Johto wasn't even finished yet.

Another awesome review dude! AG was actually the first one I fully got into as a kid so I remember it fondly, I joined the anime gang halfway through johto so I didn’t have much time with it compared to AG. Solid points all around when I look back on the series, even though I love it a ton, really wish Ash’s rivals had more shine especially. Hell I still think Morrison especially would be better if he had more screen time, it’d make the whole “not wanting to fight ash” that he did at the beginning of their battle more special. All in all it’s still definitely a great series

Pokemon AG was an experiment that set the groundwork for the future series we love to this day. Without this series, we wouldn't have the greatness of DP, XY, SM, and Journeys.

@@revolvingworld2676 In my opinion, BW was a misguided venture. It tried to appeal to new viewers by hitting the reset button and alienated the majority of the fans. However, it could have been better if unforeseen circumstances beyond the show's control didn't intervene. (2011 earthquake/tsunami)

Honestly, I did wanted to just punch Ash for how he was behaving toward Brawley. Like the dude probably has gym battles a lot and just wanted to relax by surfing especially considering Dewford is pretty much 50% beach. However, Ash just kept acting so impatient toward Brawley and demanded a battle from him and, when he gets it, gets DESTROYED! Obviously, they were going for a "polar opposite" approach there where one is nice, calm, and patient while the other is mean, aggressive, and impatient. I'm glad they dropped Ash being impatient for Gym Battles as of D/P where there are times where Ash doesn't mind waiting more for gym battles and finds something else to do in the meantime (like the tag battle thing for the Hearthome badge or going to Dawn's Grand Festival after Team Rocket screwed his chances for his 8th badge at the time)

Well AG is the main reason why Ash wasn't like that in DP and later series, he learned not to be overconfident and jerk in AG, that's why not even in BW Ash act like that. If AG didn't happen than Ash would be jerk in DP.

Ah yes, my 2 favorite league rivals: Bradison and Chadyson.

Staraptor may be known for its competitive play in the games but when it comes to Ash’s regional birds it’s swellow more wins more battle ready attitude 💯 🔥

Gotta love how when you bring up the later series overshadowing this one you show all of them except for one... hoo boy, the review after the next one is gonna be a FUN one.

May is hands down the most underrated character in Pokemon(at least amongst Ash’s companions) She was a pioneer who paved the way for Dawn and Serena(two other amazing characters) hopefully Dawn, May and Serena all meet in journeys

AG is really extremely underrated, it started so many great trends, first time Pokegirl is showing as important character as Ash for story by having her own character arc (well Ash was still more important) despite Ash not having any good rival May had the best rival in whole anipoke in companions, Drew is like Contest version of Paul, May is the best written pokegirl till date only equal or maybe surpass by Dawn, AG give the biggest achievement for Ash as winning BF which take more than a decade to surpass by winning Alola league, not to mention Ash Vs Brandon was the best anipoke battle before Ash Vs Paul.

Man This Type Of Vids Needs More Views This Is Masterpiece

The advanced series was great it is not the “forgettable” season of the series it’s actually loved by many. Personally I rank it 3rd of the best behind Kanto and Johto.

While I’m not the biggest fan in AG series, I appreciate how it transformed the series as a whole. I’m looking forward to your review of the Unova series, arguably the most controversial of them all lol.

I love that all the good points take up close to 20 minutes of this video ❤ Also looking forward to the review of black and white... For the laughs.

Before watching I'll say this. Gen three anime is my childhood, call it bias but it's my favourite. Underrated indeed. Plus the battle frontier arc is amazing, once frontier arc starts there's so few filler. The seasons don't drag on like Johto or occasionally sinnoh. May is my favourite, contests are great. Plus can't deny all four opening themes are amazing

Missed the premiere due to studying, but another masterpiece from the broski 👏🏼 Big shoutout to Tom and KG, they killed it as well. AG was surely an underrated series in Pokémon that kickstarted the innovations to come! Love it! AG ❤️💙💚

I still love that Advanced battle background music with all of the guitar riffs that played when things got intense. That score was associated with so many crucial scenes that at this point it unadulterated POKEMON in my eyes. I to this day remember it clear as day. I am a little sad you didn't mention Brock and Ash double battle in Pewter Gym where we got reintroduced to the evolved Steelix and the freshly evolved Donphan vs two powerhouse Pokemon Charizard and Tyranitar.

*Still hoping for a return of Brandon!!!*
