Episode 79 from the indigo league "Friend and Foe Alike" will always be my most hated episode. Nearly everything made me angry about this episode from when I was a kid until now. - Sleep equalled K.Oed - Team Rocket constantly going after Ash - The build up to Ash and Richie's fight and being pushed the last 5 mins - Ash's Team Selection - Not calling officer Jenny that Ash was kidnapped - No one caring including his mother and best friends that Ash was missing - Ash losing in the most anti-Climatic and BS way

Ash should have lost because Ritchie was just better at battling. Not because of Team Rocket induced circumstances. Have Ritchie use 3 different Pokémon. Maybe Ivysaur, Wartortle, and Clefairy. When Ash is confused because he was expecting the Pokemon he’d already seen, have Ritchie say something like “Ash you’ve already seen Happy, Sparky, and Zippo in battle. Why would I use them?” Then Ash loses because he didn’t anticipate the right team. A very rookie mistake

As a kid, I used to hate charizard because he won't listen to ash. But when I grew up, I realized that it was ash fault for not trained him. Maybe if he had won his badge more fairly (without team rocket interference), charizard could've respect him a bit.

Honestly though, it really seems like the Indigo League was poorly seeded and Ash happened to be in the weakest bracket by pure luck. Some many of his wins in Kanto were a fluke, luck, or reckless, so it makes sense that a stroke of bad luck would be his undoing.

Axew getting lost in the middle of the Unova League better be in the top 10. 😂😂

Something you didn't mention about JN115 that I'd like to add is how all the Masters 8 competitors are people Ash has met before on his journey and literally saved the world with half of them, yet Ash gets absolutely zero interactions with anyone there except Iris. To make things worse, they just give Ash completely cold dead stares as if they never met him before. Ash doesn't even get any interactions with Alain, one of his greatest rivals in the series, other than a cold nod from him. It felt insulting to Ash because the competitors treated him like some nobody when he's actually on good terms with all of them.

one other thing is how in the after story that they would post on twitter after an episode airs had them actually do a first bump where Alain said good luck to Ash in the the rest of the tournament but they couldn't bother showing that in the actual episode...At least they have one more interaction when Alain leaves :O

Steven should've fought Leon, and Ash should've rematched against Alain, preferably with the dumb vines thing in Kalos being fixed and Greninja rejoining his team for one last showdown against Mega Charizard X, in which Ash-Greninja finally wins, as it should've done in Kalos.

Atleast Journeys had great battles like Ash vs Volkner, Ash vs Cynthia, Ash vs Leon, Ash vs Drasna, Ash vs Iris, Ash vs Bea, Cynthia vs Iris, Leon vs Raihan etc. B & W was just pure BS. Chloe was annoying but atleast she had much less screentime in being annoying than Iris who was present in every damn episode.

The best Gym Leader battle episode was with an Electric Type Gym Leader, and the worst was with an Electric type Gym Leader. Poetic.

Ambipom’s goodbye is definitely one of if not the worst moments in the entire anime.😡 Thank god for Buizel and Gliscor. Buizel for actually staying committed to Ash and battling, and Gliscor for having one of if not the best Pokémon goodbye’s in the whole anime, and he came back stronger than ever before!😁

Yeah, I don't understand why they randomly made Ambipom develop a thing for ping pong suddenly. It made no sense, and it kind of seems like they were looking for a way to write Ambipom out of the story for whatever the reason, which I really don't know why they would. You would think that it would be a little more important, because the reason why Ash and Dawn traded was that they realized that they had Pokemon that fit the other trainers' style better, not to mention you'd think that they'd want to promote Ambipom more because it was one of the many Pokemon that got a new evolution in gen4

The writers wanted to give Dawn Tgoekiss and Cyndaquill as a way to advertise the upcoming Heart gold and Soul silver games(because togekiss and cyndaquill are johto pokemon lines). However Dawn already had 5 pokemon. So by removing one of Dawn's team members, two pokemon could be shoehorned into the show to advertise the games. Amibpom was chosen since it had the weakest emotional link to Dawn. Dawn had caught all of the her other pokemon, but Aipom was traded so Ambipom was dropped from the show. Which doesnt make sense for this reason: ambipom was itself a Johto pokemon evolution, so I dont understand why Dawn couldnt just be given cyndaquill or togekiss and call it a day.

@@Jess19980Yeah. And the real ironic thing is that we got an amazing goodbye to a Sinnoh Pokemon owned by one of the twerps that evolved from a Johto one in the 12th season of the anime (Gliscor). And it was in Zactoshi’s TOP 25.

I really hate what they did to Alain in the Master’s Eight tournament, even ignoring the fact he was the character I was most excited for returning. Literally brought him back just to immediately send him home, like damn wtf. If they were so dead set on having Alain be the first eliminated, they should’ve made Ash fight him instead, that way it would be a far more meaningful and exciting battle. I would’ve liked to see Alain use Mega Charizard X, Chesnaught, Malamar, and Kingambit (evolved from his Bisharp, who I consider to be his secondary ace behind Charizard lol) in his fight against Ash lol

The irony of Ash having to leave his Greninja behind at the end of Kalos is that a reward from the Sun and Moon demo you could transfer into the games is a special Greninja that can use the Ash-Greninja form.

The goddamn Ambipom release episode infuriates me because you can tell they released her because they wanted Dawn to have a walking advertisement of a Cyndaquil and a last minute Togekiss, it’s genuinely baffling how they didn’t decide to let Dawn just have more than six pokemon and it feels like they chose a pokemon at random to release because Ambipom leaving for ping pong devalues her ENTIRE arc, so instead of a pretty well written arc about changing goals, she comes off as having the attention span of a goldfish who chases anything new that looks mildly intersting Garbage ass episode

Yeah. Like, if you want to get rid of Ambipom, maybe just have her stay with Johanna. I mean, it’s not unprecedented for Ash’s friends to leave Pokemon with family so they can catch more. Misty left Horsea with her sisters when Horsea needed a place to swim (and Starmie because her idiot sisters forced her to). Brock left his Pokemon with his family before rejoining Ash in Hoenn, the Kanto Battle Frontier, and Sinnoh. May left Beautifly with her mom because they both liked the garden, and Skitty couldn’t get enough of the greenhouse. So why not Ambipom?

Ash vs Elesa being 14th is really generous. This episode is the entire reason why people thought, that Ash was an idiot in BW, while he was okay for majority of the battles. While Ash vs Hapu and Leon vs Alain are also mediocre, but Elesa fight for me is the only one in entire anime, that hurts you, when you watching it

Elesa Vs Ash would only seem to prick my foot, but atleast such a thorn could be removed. Leon Vs Diantha was so damn disgusting as if the sliver that pricked you is now inside your veins who knows where. Two days following that episode, I had my entrance exam and on the last night and even amid the exam, I still could see flashes of that episode which would infuriate me. It was THAT bad!

@@user-fd7fi4vj8p I have seen that argument several times, and let me tell you, even this argument doesn't make sense. See, Dragon Tail definitely switches out your opponent's Pokémon, but which Pokémon would come out immediately next is completely RANDOM, it doesn't depend on either trainers. Against Ash, this strategy makes sense because all of Ash's Pokémon are prone to a Dragapult (flamethrower for Mega Lucario, Meteor Assault Immunity from Sirfetch'd and ability to hit Dragonite, Dracovish and Gengar for Super-effective damage etc.) If anything, this actually makes Leon look impressive. But against Diantha? Nope! Aurorus hard counters Dragapult because Dragapult can't hit Aurorus for Super-effective damage, but Aurorus can. Also, unlike Ash, Diantha has a fairy type in Mega Gardevoir. What if the dragon tail brought Aurorus? Dragapult would be in trouble. What if it brought Mega Gardevoir, a Pokémon immune to Dragon Tail? Which is why this strategy also doesn't make sense because otherwise it seems to suggest that Leon was relying on luck against a trainer the Anime showcased us as a strategist. Relying too much on luck in a trainer Vs trainer battle is never a great idea.

The top 2 being an XY & DP episode is a proof that even the best series has it’s flaws, I’m a BW stan & I give mad respect to Zac for not putting too much episodes of that series on the top 10 👏🏼

I did not find Cacnea's release episode to be the worst. Cacnea started to lose focus in DP due to Carnivine taking over the spotlight and gag of hurting James. At least, Cacnea did get better under Gardenia's tutelage compared to James who did not properly train the little fellow enough prior to its release.

Hot take: I think the episode with Ash’s second battle is worse than the first one. You have: *It take forever to get to the main part of the episode with us not even getting to the gym until the second half of the episode (The first part involving another one of the TRio’s schemes) *Even then, May just HAD to battle Watt before Ash battled Wattson (Which is one of the few bright spots) *When we actually get to the gym battle itself, it constantly gets interrupted by MORE TRio shenanigans, which would be more forgivable except for the fact that Ash and Wattson’s battle is a ONE v ONE! *And Ash’s Torkoal losing to Manectric’s Thunder Wave (a status move) And this episode isn’t filler as this is the episode where May learns the next contest will be In Verdanturf Town!

Fun Fact: Zac probably hates Ping Pong now.

The pokemon goodbyes of Greninja and Ambipom always piss me off! All that build-up of their relationship with Ash, or in Ambipom's case Ash and Dawn, is just thrown out the window!

@@professorpengu502people keep saying it’s because he’s the only one that can stop the vines but I don’t think that was true. I’m pretty sure it was that he was the only one that could see where the vines would be before they sprout.

My least favourite episode is "Three Sides to Every Story" There was this Lum berry farmer's Marill, which Dawn's Piplup falls in love with. It looks really adorable seeing them together & how they get along, plus they share an Egg Group. So why do I hate this episode? Well, there's this obnoxious Elekid that abuses Marill a lot with Super Effective Electric type attacks. We see one of these scenes of her being bullied onscreen by him. The attacks don't hit her though, but she looks so scared. 😟 Brock points out that he's "teasing her" because Elekid is also in love with Marill. At the end of the episode, she gets to choose between Piplup & Elekid & who does she pick? The Elekid who literally crushed on her by forcing her to dance daily over the Piplup who was nice to you from the start. Elekid is in the Undiscovered Egg Group & doesn't even share any egg groups when it evolves, either! So, according to this episode, if you want someone to fall in love with you, tease them by threatening to punch them, THEN show them you can protect them & flirt. Disgusting!

I don’t blame Journeys for not resolving the whole vine thing. But, do you know what I DO blame them for (aside from Grookey)? Taking Ash back to Vemillion City for his last three seasons and NOT running into Ambipom, who was supposedly training in the sacred art of ping-pong *IN VERMILLION CITY!* But, I guess if you’re a monkey whose name is not Infernape, you don’t get to be relevant after your expiration date.

The absolute worst episode was Ash’s Greninja losing the Kalos league. That is the episode that got me permanently out of the Pokemon Anime. It ruined EVERYTHING about not only XYZ, but also further iterations of the anime. Ash’s journey RIGHTFULLY should have ended there yet it didn’t because of some awful decision made by the writers and/or the higher ups. Truly a travesty indeed.

Aipom was and still is my fav Pokémon. That release hurt me as a kid. You know it was bad that as a 12 year old I thought it was extremely stupid. They built Aipom/Ambipom up for so long just to cut it short for absolutely nothing.

Why do I have a feeling that 40% of the video would consist of Journeys, and Black and white episodes 🤔😂

I would put Ash losing both Indigo and Unova league episodes at worst of entire anime because Ambipom and Greninja's release ruin only one character but those two league episodes ruin whole series.

Ash releasing Greninja, the episode blue Pokémon Journeys episode, 50% of Johto, and not to mention at least 2 Black and White episodes.

come on black and white has some of the best fillers in season 14 .

My opinion on the worst ten: 10. Unova is still the worst league. 9. They did Alain so dirty. 8. WHY DID SHE RELEASE TOGETIC?? 😢 7. Boring. 6. Honestly I haven’t seen the two episodes so it’s a pass. 5. I actually like the episode 😊 4. It’s Team Rocket fault. 3. Felt like filler, but it’s a really bad episode. 2. WHY DID HE RELEASE GRENINJA?!? 1. Letting go of Ambipom was so stupid. I’m still mad at that episode ever since I was a kid.

Noticed that only one was considered bad episode from sun and moon, this shows how good that region seasons are

I mean it was just Oak'ing a Pokemon, and Bulbasaur lasted way too long into Johto anyway, he should of left in the first year shortly after Charizard and Squirtle did. The ep itself was great,

​@@SaxophoneSeal does it really make sense or not cause from what I've seen the reason Mudsdale lost cause it got wet when it attacked Pikachu accidentally one of the pillars fell in the water resulting in mudsdale getting wet, then Pikachu used like electro web on it then used a z-move

Greninja's release, combined with the Kalos League loss and the writers not letting Ash get revenge, was such disrespect that I quit the anime for three years before it finally redeemed itself.

Extreme disrespect Ash vs Alain as a battle is amazing, but the OUTCOME is unacceptable. Sure Alain didn't body ash like Tobias did but still, Alain was Ash's other major rival, who he had never beaten, so this was the perfect time to settle the score

@@eljordinio7647 Alain's Charizard slayed 10 megas in a row, plus a member of the Kalos Elite Four. Also, Alain's Charizard went toe to toe with Zygarde, and fought Primal Groudon. Greninja's best feat was just defeating a pathetic trainer's Mega Sceptile. I think Alain rightfully won that match. It's amazing how many people hate Ash losing to Alain, but Alain is the only league rival Ash met before getting all eight badges.

It doesn't help that said mega Zard X also gets knocked out at point blank range by Leon's Charizard in a single shot Greninja is also the reason ash even made the finals in the first place and after everything he went through to perfect his transformation, I think he deserved to win. Not to mention he came extremely close to beating a champion's ace while Alain's Charizard barely even dented one The Kalos league finals are controversial for a reason whether Alain deserved to win or not

@@eljordinio7647 Because Greninja had a cool form? Since this is about the Lumiose Conference, Alain's performance against Leon doesn't matter. Alain's Charizard was shown to be very powerful, and we had a four episode miniseries to showcase it. The same cannot be said for Ash's other league rivals. Maybe it's because I hate Greninja, but even with all the development he got, it's still reasonable that he failed to defeat Charizard. I mean, a Super Water Shuriken to the face, and Charizard is unphased. Remember, Greninja's destiny was to save Kalos, and not win some tournament.

So for number 16 Battling the Enemy Within, I will say that it sparked so much fandom love and lore for Evil Ash - which was a huge hit for years. Also Friend and Foe Alike is probably my number one hated. I need to think more but for now it is. Also YES WHY THE FREAK DID THEY DO AMBIPOM DIRTY LIKE THAT?

Man growing up, I always liked Ash's Aipom and her personality so, knowing full well that she probably wouldn't return, I always used to tear up at the end of the ping pong episode when they showed a montage of ash's journey with Aipom

I actually really like Togepi Mirage. It was about time to see Misty return and Togepi mature and evolve. The release does hurt, but I think it adds more to the emotion because Misty raised Togepi since it hatched, so it’s like a parent letting their child go on their own.

I'm actually quite impressed by how bad the Ambipom release episode was; as a kid, watching that episode made my blood boil.

also they said the pingpong guy was in Vermelion, which would make you think at some point they would go back and visit her, but nope. Never saw ambipom again.

Strongly disagree on the Orange Island final Gym, that double battle was actually really good for the time. Most Gyms in the OS were only half an episode, so I don't see why you're on the TR stuff in that ep when it's the same for most Gym of that era. Seeing Pikachu and Charizard work together was great, as well as Pikachu shock Alakazam for its Hyper beam to strike the ground and hit Marowak, and then the bone club come back on its face. Bulbasaur's final episode was really good too, it was emotional enough and is no different than Oaking a Pokemon, no idea why that would be an issue since Bulbasaur lasted way too long in Johto.

You know, maybe “A Double Dilemma” isn’t the worst episode after all. Should’ve made the honorable mentions, but oh well… Hearing Zac go off-script to rant about Ambi-pong was wonderful.

As divisive Pokémon Journeys is, at least I personally enjoyed the majority of the episodes but I will admit that I didn’t like how Grookey was caught because the “bond” felt forced in which I personally don’t hate Goh’s Grookey as much as most people but I can agree that this was one of the worst debuts for a starter Pokémon despite me liking the episode and don’t get me started about the releases of both Greninja and Ambipom respectively because they equally angered me a lot, both of them are just poorly written and executed episodes in which sickens me dearly!!! 😦😪😖👎🏻

I didn't remember the episode title for number 1 so I was just like "well what could this be". I am not joking when I say my heart rate rised as I yelled obscenities the moment I saw Ambipom. Greninja's release is garbage, no one can deny but at least it kinda sorta has reasoning with his arc and has him being the regions -weed wacker- protector. Ambipom had all of this setup, was part of one of the only good trades in the anime's history, was overall just fun to have around and her doing contests made sense. So then why, on Arceus' green earth did they throw all that set up away for PING PONG! It is probably one of the biggest fumbles in the anime's history and I get angry everytime I think about it.

Greninja could have either stayed with Sanpei in Ninja Village since he was a crucial part of its development, or just stayed with Sycamore so he could study the bond phenomenon further, maybe even be the guardian of the lab Or heck, he could have just gone to Oak's with everyone else barring Goodra

Hey, while yes, May losing to Dawn doesn’t make sense given their skill levels, it DOES make sense narratively. May’s no longer the female protagonist, so the battle is a passing of the torch moment.

A pokemon that came all the way from AG to DP only to get released for Ping Pong which she didnt even love beforehand. It’s stupid that it abandoned contests for that…

Since this 2-part video series focused on plot-centric episodes, I'd love to watch a second video series about the best and worst filler episodes in the anime

I thought the Watson episode was pretty good, honestly. A really creative way to depict how game accurate gym battles would play out.

Ash does insist on a rematch as well when it’s a more even battlefield, and in Watt’s with Wattson even tries to return the Dynamo Badge because the match was unintentionally rigged in his favour. OG Ash would have used the loophole of receiving it, this shows how much he’s grown and is much more like the Ash who refuses the Sunnyshore badge as a handout (a rare point he and Paul agree on) and prefers to earn it in DP.

I can see where you are coming from, it was nice seeing ash Sweep a gym and even at the end of the episode Ash offered to give the badge back because he felt bad as he thought that he cheated and Watson being the nice old man he was laughed it off and let him keep the badge as the Pikachu Power boost was Watsons fault for trying to startle challengers

You've done the best, you've done the worst non-filler, now I would be very interested in a top 10 best filmer episodes. The ones with great comedy, emotional one of characters, engaging conflicts... I'm sure there are some gems spread in the anime!

As for XY(Z) is considered popular Pokemon series anime adaption, I can agree that episodes like you’ve timestamped and probably Greninja’s departure did angered me

The episode where they release Pokemon for the flimsiest reasons are incredibly aggravating. Surprised you didn't add the Primeape episode as a dishonorable mention too.

I’m honestly surprised the episode where Pikachu lost to a Snivy didn’t get some sort of mention. Everyone I know of that talks about negative aspects of the BW anime mentions that episode in particular as being one of the most bafflingly stupid in the series.

And even if BW was an actual reset and that it took place right after the Orange Islands arc, Pikachu still defeated a Dragonite, which is one of the strongest Pokémon in the Kanto Region. I get that Pikachu is a glass cannon and that he's lost to opponents weaker than Dragonite...but handicap or not, how do you lose to an opponent who's never battled in its life?

the scariest part about this list is that you could fit the entirety of the unova travels into this video and it would still be just as valid

I feel like they could've gotten rid of the Axew episode and replace it with Ash vs Stephan, and then Ash vs Cameron (having Ash win), and then have Ash lose to Virgil in the semi-finals

Honestly most of these episodes while having some albeit small good points are agreeably marred by the many bad ones which takes the fun out of enjoying them fully

I agree the Worst Pokémon episodes for were Friend and Foe Alike and Facing the needs of Many. Ash should have lost to Ritichie fair and square. The referee should have let Ash heal his Pokemon and Ash should have send out another Pokemon besides Charizard to battle Ritchie such as Kingler, Tauros and Muk. And I agree they should have never released Ash’s Greninja they should have resolved the plot with the vines in Journey’s!

The Leon vs Alain and Diantha Episode were pure garbage. Even worst, 115 was aired on my Niece's Graduation, and 122 was aired on my Cousin's Wedding.

That sounds quite awful! I really hope this doesn't appear contemptuous if I share my experience. In my case, I was going to give my engineering entrance exam on 28th August, and on 26th August, the infamous JN 122 aka Leon Vs Diantha aired. Here in India, we prepare for this exam for two years (classes 11th and 12th), and since the syllabus is beyond the school textbooks, it is not quite an easy exam and hence the few days prior to the exam are some of the most crucial days/intense and thought-cumbersome days one can feel. This episode, this absolutely one of the all times of episode, struck me for three days, maybe even more, even when I was taking my exam I must have thought how awful that episode was, atleast two to three times. For me this episode will always be the worst episode of all time for these set of reasons.
