Poisson's Ratio | Video in HINDI | EduPoint
In this video in Hindi we discussed about Poisson's ratio. Poisson's ratio is the ratio of lateral strain to longitudinal strain. When a body is elongated or compressed, it experiences a longitudinal strain, but, it also experiences a lateral strain. The lateral strain is proportional to the longitudinal strain. When we substitute the proportionality sign by the equality sign we have to introduce the constant of proportionality and that constant of proportionality is known as Poisson's ratio.

Well 0.19 is very close to 0.20. Values can fluctuate a bit. No big deal.

Negative sign is used in Poisson ratio, due to decrease in thickness and breadth after applying applied force
