Phly, I've noticed you make this mistake over and over in your videos, so I have to tell you. Shells in WT differ in explosive type used and that's why some shells have a stat called "TNT equivalent". The IS-2 does indeed have less explosive mass, than the t-34, but the explosive type in the t-34 is TNT and in the IS-2 it's "A-IX-2", which gives a TNT equivalent of 272g, a significantly higher value than the t-34. Not that it's a very important thing, but it got me triggered a few times :D

dont look at the "explosive mass" but "equivalent fot TNT" , is-2 shot has smaller amount of explosive, but the explosive is different, so is-2 shot does more boom than t-34-85 once it enters the tank

Different explosives differ in price, sensitivity, density etc. A high-yield explosive might be too expensive, too sensitive or not dense enough to be put into a round used by pretty much disposable tanks. If the explosive is too sensitive or not dense enough, a higher caliber is necessary to ensure that the round doesn't explode in the barrel or shatter on impact.

The Weapon Collection no, but it’s more sensitive. And in reality, once a shell penetrated a tank it wouldn’t be much of a threat even if the shell didn’t kill every last crewmember.

well when laying your gunsight, the maximum you can go is, for all intents and purposes, infinite. You can your sight to such distances that you cant even see the sight and your whole screen is black. That'd kind of be an impossible challenge, although hilarious to watch

Phly, you compared the explosive masses wrong. The T-34-85 has tnt, and the Is-2 has another type of explosive. You should've read the equivalent tnt mass

Hi Phly, just to make the explanation easier to grasp. When you shoot at a angled armor plate, the shell wel still try to follow (turn with) the angle of the plate. But because the penetration is higher then the thickness of the armor it wil go trough with the angle of the defragmentation equal (parallel) to the angle of the plate. Sorry if my english is not clear.

Phly, I have noticed a severe lack of SU-100 gameplay (Not the Boxtenk). Stalin has ordered you to drive out the SU-100 and send some oversized vodka bottles through the armor of the fascist pigs or you of goings to gulag)))))))))).

Deyan Tonev Please read my comment again word by word. He's played the T-34-100 multiple times. He's never played the SU-100, and since it's a tank destroyer, it'll be a decent challenge.

If im not mistaken if the round penetrates the sloped armor it will deflect slightly towards being more perpendicular to the face of the armor its called normalization

Correct, in the case of the T-34-85 the shell will enter in a slight downward angle due to the slope of the armor.

hey Phly, your science is a bit off: When a shell hits angled armor the shell will normalise(the shells alignment with a normal that is 90* from the tangent represented by the armor) aka. the shells trajectory will change towards the armors ange so that the shell has an easier time penetrating. Why you see so much of the fragments directed towards the turret is because more fragments come from the side of the shell than the tip, because the side is much thinner while the tip needs to penetrate the armor. WT also only models the damaging fragments for a clearer view of what happens in the tank.

For the penetration angle, its actually the contrary. The shell normalization will reduce the angle, in doing so the shell will point slightly more to the ground and explode lower in the tank, or send shrapnels in the hull more than in the turret.

The Tigers are having a significant emotional event

It's the end of 2020 and the T-34-85s are still my favorite tanks in the game. Sitting at a comfy battle rating. Fast and absolutely deadly. Next would be the T-44 and its vastly improved armor... but when it's not uptiered.

"Feels bad..." ... haha - you killed me with that Intro...

Those 11 kills where great .. congratulations.

Phly at 6:44 when you shoot at the tiger, you aren't using the aiming circle correctly. Your tank is on an incline, which means that your vertical aiming stadia is not true vertical. Instead it is angled to the left. However, your shell is still going to fall straight vertically. This means that at long range, your shell impact will be offset to the side of your vertical aiming stadia. Notice that when you dial in the range (1000m in this case), your aiming circle actually moves to the left of your stadia. The aiming circle compensates for your tank angle, and is centered on where your shell will actually impact. When your tank is at an angle like that, use the center of the aiming circle to aim your shot instead of the actual stadia line.

The angle of the armor does different things to two types of shells. 1. Normalisation. 2. Deflection. In 1, the shell will hit the angle, depending on what fuse, material and whether or not a ballistic cap is present, will decrease the angle of attack between the shell’s normal and the angle of the armor. This does the opposite of what phly said. 2. If the shot is of a hard penetrator core nature, the angle will act as a slope for the projectile to ride on, therefore, getting deflected. However, that will tear off material in the process. If the armor is thin enough, it will go through after slight deflection, releasing shrapnel at a higher angle than the armor, what phly was trying to say.

1 shell two kills are by far the most satisfying kills in this game :D I've got two under my belt. the first one was a tank i dont remember and a Russian milk truck got killed by shrapnel and the second was a m18 i penetrated and the round passed though into another m18 exploding

ok just cause i do senior physics a need to say this. the effect that you were trying to explain is just like how light reflects off of a clear piece of glass. even if the force of the projectile going through the armour is considerably greater than that required to go through some of the force is going to be reflected causing the shell to have vertical as well as horizontal motion

It is true that the T-34's armor isn't really strong for its tier (except when fighting the Americans, in which case it can and will shit all over the hopes and dreams of a 76mm armed tank, given favorable circumstance), but the steep angling means that it can force ricochets from shots with nominal penetration exceeding the thickness of its armor. Being sloped at 60 degrees means it doesn't take much more angling to get it to the guaranteed ricochet range of most AP shells, although larger shells do tend to perform better. So it's really always teetering on the edge of being able to bounce incoming fire and not being able to do shit about it. Just for consideration.

The shell will meet resistance on the armour, pushing the shell upward, once it penetrates the armour, the gun powder (explosive mass) will detonate and send shrapnel through the tank in an upward direction, resulting in the crew being killed, or the ammo load burning out.

Comrade Phly! Love the 85 mm gun on the t34-85. If you want the same gun but with actual armor try out the IS-1! Favorite tank to play atm.

5:34 that Tiger had a lot of ammo but even if you only take 3 shells they still prefer the side rack to the bottom one. Sure there is more armor but you can hide it. This way you show the corner of your tank and are almost guaranteed to go boom.

And thus, the lonely T-34-85 with a broken radio drives on, trying to find it's platoo- Oh... Nevermind.

This is pretty good tank for talisman. I've played with it in all upper tiers and usually it performs very well against cold war tanks.
