    "Tracking Namielle From the Coral Highlands through the Rotten Vale" Love this. Lets go a step further. Imagine Namielle's attacks change based on the biome. Her water attacks are now effluvium (infused perhaps) for instance or possibly even uses the acidic waters. Another possibility would be luring or chasing a monster to a biome that is detrimental to their health; Namielle in a desert or wastes biome for instance.

    I fell in love the first time i played monster hunter instantly addicted and i agree with what rurikhan said i also love the contrast between world and rise, people complain that rise is not what they wanted but look at it this way it's just more ways to play monster hunter, one fun fast paced drop in drop out game and one slow methodical fleshed out hunting experience. whatever your in the mood for, Wild will give us something we all like...its just more ways to play

    On the point of keyboard and mouse controls: for some weapons like Gunlance it feels pretty jank, but for Greatsword and imo Charge Blade, the octagonal input direction limit with WASD helps aim your Charges and SAED's waaaay more precisely. For Bowguns I'd also make the same argument as you maintain alot more camera control when accessing the QuickMenu for crafting ammo etc. I was shocked with how well it played.

I decided to use kbm and it took alot of tinkering, rebinding, setting shortcut and all that. Now it feels really great, i can hit any part of the monster's body quickly and accurately with mouse. nah i freaking love monster hunter when i first started it. i started back in the good old psp days with freedom unite. it was a very hard game for me like the combat was so slow and chugging potions locks you with its animation but everything else felt so immersive i was like oh i can sharpen my weapon? i can use flashbangs? i can use traps? monsters limp when they are weak? my sword bounces off? i can cook meat? and theres a bunch of weapon to mess around with? and so much more. it was such a one of a kind game for me back then and its a very straight forward game but have so much depth in it. i remember i keep watching every monsters ecology over and over again especially the games intro because it was so good. i dreamt of a day when i can play a monster hunter game like the one in the video with better graphics and larger environments and then we got world/iceborne but i never imagined monster hunter to become total mainstream. im so proud what it has become 😁

    totally agree with Ruri on the point of wyvern riding taking away the chaos of having more monsters in the zone. i love how 5th gen made it so they can intentionally hit each other, rather than them only targeting players and hitting each other if you bait them. it's more realism in the creatures and i feel that Rise having it so when a monster fought and lost while you used wyvern riding or a turf war making them cower in fear until the cool down was over was weird. i like how in World, even if there was a turf war, monsters will still fight in the zone for a while and keep doing it just without the turf war animation if they cross paths. in World, even without the flinch shot, i loved the chaos of it so i never brought dung pods. i always treated bazel as a teammate so it was fun. man, i hope we never see raider ride again. playing more recently, it feels less glitchy than i i remember. with it having pathing issues and stopping to look around constantly but i'd rather have my own car of a mount that i can control than a taxi service lol. the easiest way to do seasons is it being player based, like it cycles as you play but if you and a friend are on different seasons you go to the session hosted by whoever has the season you want. ideally, you could have it so when you're with someone else your season won't change until you are back in solo or your hosted lobby so you have some degree of control over it.

  • @CoyoteWildfire

    @CoyoteWildfire

    5 ай бұрын

    I legit never brought dung pods either. And for all my hate over Deviljho, I'd rather chase him off with my weapon than rely on dung to do it for me. But I absolutely do agree with you, raider riding was... half-baked. I think it was probably just tacked on to make it easier to taxi players, and not meant to be a full on mount. But I can see how it was a gradual step into the palamute and then the mount we'll be getting in Wilds! Your description of seasons makes sense to me though! And that's kind of how the sieges work already, right? The progress is based on the host's gathering hub, and that session is synced. Seasons could be handled in the same manner, where the host's seasons are then synced to the cooperators. Really would like to see this back from Dos.

    As someone who actually managed to labor through Wild Hearts performance issues on a PC and was still playing when the game got better (even if not fully optimized), and even finished the main story... the game had a lot, and I mean a LOT of potential. Really cool monsters with some badass ultimate attacks, weapons that each feel individually unique and fun, all the Karakuri stuff, the main story, or rather the lore behind, actually having potential to setup more games like this... the only thing I probably would say I didn't like was the armor design variety, coz it was mostly 1 main design (although that fit in with the theme) and different spins on it. I'm not considering the performance issues, coz obviously that wasn't intended, they just rushed the release. If they had simply waited to finish and polish the game, maybe release it on paid early access so they can sort out these issues without people feeling like they got cheated, and released the game this year, when there's no actual new Monster Hunter to play at all, it would have been a MASSIVE HIT I think. Could have been a legitimately good MH alternate. Instead they released it buggy, so they spent time more on fixes than story updates, resulting in no major content updates, resulting in a slow but eventual death of the game. It's honestly very sad.

  • @CoyoteWildfire

    @CoyoteWildfire

    5 ай бұрын

    That's honestly SUCH a shame. I couldn't believe it when I realized what I'd experienced was a game bug. But it was right at the beginning of the game, so there's no way I could have known it was any different than the intended gameplay. :( I'm really saddened by this, because everything people have told me about Wild Hearts (including you and Ruri) have had some pretty cool things to say about it. As you mentioned, if it was released in 2024, where there was a load of hungry people for a new MH-like game, it could have had more time to cook and released as a massive success. What a bummer...

    "A lot of us don't like Monster Hunter for the first time we played it..." is the most underrated things to say in my opinion, people should know that many of pre-World hunters used to deal with many problems in the early generations but we persisted until we loved the game. Personally, I can say, I hate MHFU as my first ever Monster Hunter...little did I know I' would be attached to these games, i.e. Monster Hunter (though I only played MHFU and MHP3rd prior to World) for just over 10 years! I just want to give my two cents on the whole World vs Rise discussion. Personally I've always felt that Rise is a great game. But to me personally I don't think it's necessarily a good Monster Hunter game, and I feel like those two things can co-exist, and be true at the same time. The reason I feel this way is because at least to me Rise had too many aspects that deviated too far from what I want in a Monster Hunter experience. For starters the Wirebug though a cool concept and definitely very interesting. Was MASSIVELY over tuned, and extremely easy to abuse by hunters. Mainly due to the fact that 90% of monsters had zero ways to counter wirebug abilities in their arsenals. Unless they could fly or were Ice blighting monsters. I also didn't like how we just got told where every monster was on the map from the very start of the game basically. Because it more or less completely got rid of any reason to bother exploring the maps unless you were just that bored. Next I didn't like Wyvern riding at all. For the exact same reasons Ruri gave in this podcast. It just got rid of too much natural tension from multi monster scenarios when all you saw the monsters as is just some free damage. Then there's palamutes which though I generally liked. They definitely overtuned them as well. The fact that you could use them as basically free get out if jail free cards to heal, and or sharpen was a massive oversight in my opinion. That felt like it lacked a certain level of playtesting. I hated the charm system in Rise it felt disjointed and kinda awkward to me. I much prefer World's deco grind system more then I did grinding for charms. Because at least deco grinding was so ingraned into just playing the game normally that I didn't even feel like i was grinding for them. But charms ALWAYS felt like a grind to me, and on top of that they were so OP in Rise that they were basically an entire armor set in and of themselves. Lastly and this is an issue so bad that even Capcom themselves acknowledged it was terrible, and stopped supporting it basically immediately post release. The Rampages were cool conceptually, and could have worked if implemented differently but it unfortunately just felt like a massive cluster fuck. The whole implentation of Rampages felt more like a tech demo to a completely different game completely unrelated to Rise. There was simply just way too much stuff going on and the whole experience just felt super disjointed the entire time. But despite all these negatives I still had some fun in Rise I mean I got to the end game of the game, of course I liked it. Those were just prominent issues I had with my time with the game. There were still plenty of things I loved about Rise. Like for instance the new Armor and weapon designs we got in Rise and Sunbreak looked PHENOMENAL. The hunting horn though yes massively overpowered in Rise was fun lol. Switch Skills were fun as well they allowed players to play how they want and that's always great it gave weapons a lot of depth. I alsp thought having to unlock them was perfectly fine and completely natural progression through the game. I know other vets didn't personally like it but I did. Rise has some of my all time favorite new monster designs visually and mechanically. Being Almudron, both versions of Bishaten, Tetranadon, Somnacanth, Garangolm, Pyre Rakna- Kadaki, and Lunagaron. Anyways these are just my personal takes on why Rise though definitely a good game. Just didn't quite hit the same for me as world. Generally speaking a lot of world just felt more personal to me then Rise did, and that really hurt my enjoyment of it overall. If I were to rate Rise for me personally as just a game its like a solid 8 but as an MH experience I'd give it like a 6.5.

    There were so many awesome thoughts in this comment, that I had to wait until I was at my PC to reply. First off, no shame for liking World more than Rise. I'm very much the same. Rise felt like a downgrade to me, and if all that I'm looking at is ecology, realness, lifelike environments and monster behaviors, or combat? Then yeah, it is. Since it was designed for Switch, Rise didn't stand a chance at filling World's shoes, so instead, they wanted to do different things that made it stand in its *own* shoes, so to speak. Because of that, you see the things you mentioned: a lot of tacked-on mechanics that felt disjointed and half baked. But what your comment has done here, is demonstrated the point that Ruri and I were making (and I love that fact). You rated Rise as an MH experience, 6.5. Compared to World, it's just not as good. And even though comparatively, it's pretty low (like how Ruri was talking about the Xenoblade 3 compared to the other two), Rise is still a solid 8 for you as a gaming experience. I love that. You understand the nuance he and I were trying to draw. Even though you have a long list of reasons as to why you like World more, you get the difference between your subjective comparisons, versus what the game as a standalone experience would be. It shows self-awareness, and I feel many people (not just MH fans, or even gamers), would do well to learn from your example. Additionally, it shows passion. You would be more ambivalent about the whole thing, if you weren't passionate about the game, as well as the franchise as a whole. That's something I love about the Monster Hunter community.

    @@CoyoteWildfire Ya I try to be subjective when it comes to things like this. Because I do genuinely care about video games as whole. Monster Hunter is one my all time favorite video game series so I want the games to be the best that they can be. So naturally that makes me very opinionated on the games. But at the same time I know that not every game has to appeal to everybody and I actually prefer that. Even if a game I want to like isn't exactly my cup of tea. I respect that there are people who do like said game. If every game appealled to everyone then they'd appeal to nobody as far as I'm concerned. Rise is good for the series overall, experimentation is a good thing even if some mechanics don't necessarily work out. That doesn't mean they can't be reworked so that they do work in a different game.

    Gatekeeping exists for a reason and its not always a bad thing. Gates and high walls exist to keep the undesirables out. Many a niche series has fallen prey to people wanting many people to play and so they freely let the Trojan horse in to wreck them. There's people in the MH community now that don't even want MH to be MH anymore and would love to see the series either implode or turn into something it isn't because at the end of the day some of the new people brought in by 5th gen actually don't like MH and want something else but with a MH skin attached to it. And Rurikhan is right you can't gatekeep someone buying a game...why do people act like you can and are so against gatekeeping? Now personally I would say MHW is the best compromise between old and new we have so far but I don't want to see the series go off in the Rise direction even more. But then I also miss the old sounds etc and blood hit effects the older games had and if they brought them back maybe I would have felt better about 5th gen overall. Because to me removing even this stuff is like stripping the soul out of MH.

  • @CoyoteWildfire

    @CoyoteWildfire

    5 ай бұрын

    So, I really do appreciate your thoughts here, but I don't know that I can agree with your stance on gatekeeping... When Rurikhan mentions that you can't gatekeep someone buying a game, he was speaking with regard to people who try, even though they can't. He's calling attention to the fact that people actively *try* to gatekeep and prevent others from enjoying the experience or having a voice in the space. People are against gatekeeping, because regardless of whether or not someone can, it doesn't stop bad actors from trying. And by trying, they actively ruin the experience for others. When we start using generalized names like "undesirables", that's such a wildly flexible term that could be used for any circumstance and begs questions of "who is undesirable, then?". Follow that a step further and you soon realize that what you consider undesirable is going to differ wildly from someone else who is also a long-time MH fan. What qualifies as "real" Monster Hunter will vary from person to person, even between fans from the very beginning. To dismiss other players for feeling that change or innovation is a positive move to make and casting them as undesirables greatly tarnishes the good name the Monster Hunter community bears. There are old schoolers who want monster hunter to stay monster hunter. And new schoolers who want monster hunter to change. And vice versa. Both are okay.

    @@CoyoteWildfire I guess I'm just too into the series especially the older games. However I think the term gatekeeping is overused too much since many people use it even if you say you preferred something in a previous game. I have been called a gatekeeper many times for pointing out the flaws in tenderizing in Iceborne and how it prevented it from being much better.

  • @CoyoteWildfire

    @@nuke2099 that honestly sucks. Because what they don’t realize is that while they’re crying “gatekeeper” they’re gate keeping you in the same breath, from enjoying things you’ve grown to love in the Monster Hunter series. For them to diminish your own preferences of the game by reducing you to a “gatekeeper” is pretty sad. My thoughts is that a lot of people consider a gatekeeper as one who presents their preferences as elitism. Think of situations where someone says “Oh that movie’s trash because the book is better.” That’s a gatekeeper right there, trying to keep people out of enjoying a movie because it’s not “the original book”. That sort of attitude ruins it for people. Especially when they could have said something more pleasant like, “I enjoyed the movie, but there was this awesome part in the book I wish the movie included. Do you want to hear about it?” When framed this way, it invites mutual dialog where two people can both engage in passions they share, and discuss more about this mutual interest. It’s not always what we say, but how we say it, that often determines the listener’s receptiveness to what we have to say. From what I understand of what you’ve told me? You’re not a gatekeeper. In fact, you too don’t like gate keeping because that’s a term that’s been weaponized against you. I believe you want to be heard, and to share the beautiful aspects of earlier monster hunter games with others. You want people to experience Monster Hunter. Not some game churned out with monster hunter assets awkwardly stuck on the cover art. No my friend, I think you want all people to truly experience the magic that is monster hunter, and to see for themselves just what makes this franchise so special. To you, to me, and to many others. And that, in my opinion, is a very good thing.

    @@nuke2099 as a franchise grows, its content (and its community), definitely goes through some growing pains. And each of those changes in its evolution evoke different effects... I'm definitely okay with people having a difference of opinion, variety is the spice of life after all. But I'm not okay with people putting one another down for that difference of opinion. I really appreciate the dialog you and I have had in this thread, and that started from a difference of opinion. But that difference of opinion doesn't need to be disrespectful, hence why we've both been able to discuss and share our thoughts--we have mutual respect. Keep it up. Sometimes sharing our passions with people means that they may not be interested--haha, I've had a fair few comments that were just nasty and mean-spirited, all for sharing my passion with the Monster Hunter community. Given that the Wilds trailer was captured on PC, it's quite likely that the PC version will release concurrently with the PS5 and Xbox versions.

Going into S/V i kept my expectation as low as i could, but the further into those games i played the more i realised just how half bake it was.
