• Perfect? f-stop AJNA 3...
• Not Perfect, Still Gre...
In episode 13, I discuss my recent trip to New Zealand and share my experience flying with camera gear. I talk about the f-stop AJNA, the lenses I packed (and didn't), and the challenges of flying with camera equipment in economy. I also reflect on some of the gear that I've been weighing over time on this channel like the RF 100-400, RF 28mm, and Canon R8. I wrap up with my KZread analytics and upcoming video plans - segments that we typically cover on this show.

Of course there's always news right after recording... Sigma and Tamron are officially making RF-S lenses, and there are rumored Canon 24, 35, and 50mm L's on the way. This is undoubtedly great news to see some movement, and especially so if you were waiting on the wide primes or have an aps-c body. Unfortunately, this doesn't bode well if you wanted a small, ~$1200 50mm F1.4 on the native mount. Given the current rumors, that might still be a fantasy.

Which camera do you recommend for restaurant video and for vlogging on KZread?? MacBook pro is good or windows laptop for video editing?

Vlogging and windows laptops are two things I don’t know a ton about 😅 Ideally, you want a wide fast lens. And if budget allows, either IS in the lens or IBIS. If you have something like the R50 or R7 on Canon and want really wide, you may need to look at the 10-18, though the upcoming Sigma lenses will be nice here as they’ll let in more light. A higher end smartphone is the easy option for vlogging. If you’ll be using natural light in the restaurant, you’ll probably benefit from a lens that can shoot at F2.8, or at least F4. And I was looking at Razer before deciding on a MacBook. I’ve had better luck with a standalone desktop windows pc in the past, I rarely love the hardware of non-Apple options.

@@DanYosua thank you so much my brother 😍 I'm planning to buy MacBook pro now... M3 18Gb is expensive for me. Is M2 Pro good for 4K video editing? I was worried because I didn't use Mac os system before. Is it difficult to learn new system?? Second thing is someone told me i have to pay minimum 300 dollars for any video editing software because no free software works in Mac! Is it true????

Sorry, missed this last reply. The pro hardware is good for video editing because you'll get the fans over the Air line. The M2 Pro chip should be fine for 4k video editing but it does make sense to consider your editor as far as cost goes. Premiere is the most expensive in the long run by far, Final Cut is $299 one-time, same for DaVinci Resolve although there is a free version. The latter is what I hear most people are picking up these days to be able to start free. I've used Final Cut Express in the past and have considered switching, but I feel sorta trapped with Adobe. Despite lots of complaints, it's worked pretty fast for me on the M2 Max. I usually export 4k timelines in the same length of the timeline which is great, and my projects often have multiple 4k files overlapping with simple graphics. iMovie is more basic, but I think that's still free.

Appreciate the feedback! I'm happy to have settled in the f-stop ecosystem, these two bags are holding up great so I plan to use em as long as they'll last

I've done a dozen trips to NZ over the years (married to a Kiwi) carrying lots of camera equipment in an Anja, with the pro large or nedium slope insert. We mostly fly premium economy now, so have a little better carry-on limits than economy. However, one more travel hack is to bring a jacket with some big pockets. If you ever get stopped for an over weight carry on, just throw on the jacket, shove your heavier equipment in the pockets, then as soon as your bag is light enough just throw everything back in the carry on once you board the plane. Works every time. Previous trips have been done with Olympus pro gear with top notch weather sealing. On the next trip I'm taking Canon gear: R5 with 14-35, 24-105, and a 200-800 (if I can manage to get my hands on one by December).

Thanks for sharing! Big pocket strategy is great, that's what I try to use my rain shell for. Mine is falling apart but I keep holding onto it for the pocket configuration 😂 It's a big help to have something for a hard glasses case/contacts too. Hoping for your sake that the 200-800s are more widely stocked by then, that would be cool to bring. Even rental stock is hard to come by last I looked.

@@DanYosua No worries on the 200-800,if mine doesn’t ship by November I’ll just get the 100-500. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth picking up a used 800 f/11 to start using my R5 for birding in the meantime. Canon has me in a bit of a pickle. I was also debating getting the 70-200 f/4, which would be too redundant if I end up having to buy the 100-500, and the 800 f/11 would be more relevant too.

I definitely feel that similar conundrum with the 100-500... would have liked it on this trip, not sure how I feel about the thought of having both the 70-200 and that. The 200-800 is cool but wonder if there's a traditional 200-600 ever coming.
