I have been plant based about 4 years now. I had the chance to put it to the test. At 70 I had some extensive dental work done. The dentist started writing a scrip for antibiotics. I told her not to bother, despite her insistence. I explained that my immune system, based in my microbiom, could handle it. Two weeks later, for a check-up she said, " I can't believe how beautifully this is healing, and without antibiotics. Why doesn't the world get this? Keep on keepin on Doc!

Thanks Dr Greger I wonder sometimes if the medical industry makes stuff up about brain health. I was advised post MRI that my grey matter exhibited more tangles and plaques than anyone else seen by them. the word Alzheimer's was bandied about for a while. (seen by same specialist) i was kissing my brain goodbye-Frightening! My GP though thought otherwise. Now the diagnosis is chronic longterm migraines with vascular inflammation and scarring. My memory is not what it should be, But I will incorporate more regular spinach/kale/avocado more diligently and then we'll see

oh my goodness I have been telling everyone who would listen that the macular shows up lutein deficiency and it gets it from the brain. I connected the dots from your studio and bits I have researched, my husband has dementia and the Geriatrician can't understand why his scores have improved. I have been feeding him big green smoothies with kale and spinach every day. he has been a very poor eater up to now, I thought I might get a noble prize ha ha but it turns out it might be you. Why would you go there? Folks who are healthy when old sometimes expire at home resting, and don't have to go get prodded and probed and paperworked to death. Living right up to the EDGE is natural for those of us eating what our bodies have been designed to consume. If we do wind up in a room at the H, we're likely to be more aware of our reality and old enough to be at peace with it.

From what I've heard, oxalates are helpful. The issue is their effect on mineral absorb. Foods high in sulfates like onions, garlic, ginger, etc... Help the body absorb minerals.

Dear Dr. Greger, I’m whole food plant based thanks to you and successfully lowered my total cholesterol from 260 to 151!However with the emerging research and effective findings on mitochondrial function, it appears that a scientific ketogenic diet (can also be done plant based) has put into full remission some of the most severe brain/mental health issues such as psychosis, bipolar, and even schizophrenia. I would be so appreciative if you could address this issue. Dr. Chris Palmer is doing very good work in that area, and Orthomolecular medicine (high doses of vitamins, minerals and other supplements taken orally and through IV) has proven for decades to actually heal these very same issues which revolve around repairing the mitochondria. Really would like your opinion.

You mention that lutein supplementation or eating high lutein foods does not help with Alzheimer's. So prevention is more important than expecting a cure. But why do you not mention the results obtained with turmeric in both preventing dementias AND reversing late stage Alzheimer's you presented in the past?

I'm not sure which PB doc has share this, perhaps Greger (find it in the 1000's of videos at his site). But the fact is, lack of sleep is VERY detrimental to our health. Why? because the pathways that bring energy (sugar) into our brain for the cells of our brain to use are only ONE WAY. They are one-way routes because of the massive energy needs of our central processor. In our other systems energy is delivered and waste is taken away continually, but our brain does not clean house until we go to sleep. For our brain to be in the conscious state, it cannot get rid of wastes. When we don't get sleep we don't clear out the poo of the brain. This is why our cognitive function declines as the day goes on. This is also why a nap, even a short one, can restore cognitive function to "morning" levels for better cognitive performance in the remainder of our day. This is why we go insane/die if we don't get sleep. We can dowithout food for weeks, water for days, sleep, not very long before we lose it--go into psychosis and/or die. Sleep is a vital component of brain health. Performance on every level is affected by lack of sleep. There's no way around that.

I’ve been wanting to get back to my vegan 🌱 way of eating. I’m blind (Blurry-Eyed), in one eye. The 1st eye dr told me I had Retinal Detachment of the Eye. The 2nd dr. Told me I have an eye issue known as: Optic Atrophy!! He told me it’s due to some blunt force, & the only thing I comes to mind is I had one seizure, in my lifetime!! I was also told it’s irreversible, however I’d like to believe otherwise: All things are possible by the one who created me!! To those who are given to prayer, please 🙏 pray 4 a Miracle.
