That is my goal Clay, i want to resurrect stuff when I can and maybe help someone hop up their vehicles a bit without spending a ton of money. Thank you for visiting with us, I really enjoy the conversations.

I feeling like it has to help. The next set I get I'm gonna cut the ramp out and fill the EGR holes in the exhaust ports with aluminum. I am gonna make a block off plate for the EGR on this set. Thank you for visiting Hillbilly Garage we look forward to seeing you back regular.

I see you are going with carburation , these TBI motors LOVE carburation , just that move alone is gonna make a big difference, that old TBI intake was a huge choke on these motors ! If you really want to hot rod a 305 swap in a set of flat top pistons and use a set of the bigger valved 193 castings ported out

I've got another 305 "on deck" after the one I'm working on. I am planning on flat tops for that one. I will look around and see if I can find a set of the 193's.Thank you for the info.

@@Hillbillygarage1215 No prob, yeah once u go flat tops u literally can run any 64cc 1.94" valve chevy head you want (while maintaining a nice 9:1 comp) and there are lots to choose from ! Pro tip , u wont be able to use a 305 head gasket but the 350 steel shim gasket will work just fine.

Those are 187 castings (the 350 version is the 193 casting) , the two main mods that i have found than increase intake flow on these heads (that anyone can do) is remove material from the port wall where the head bolt passes through the head and rework the guide so it has way more tapper from the bowl roof out toward the end a the guide, u can even push back the end a the ramp a bit too, do that and u will increase flow.

Lucky, so you are saying to shape the guide like a cone, right? What do you think about cutting the whole ramp out, making a round bowl with just the cone shaped guide in the middle? I am thinking of trying that on the next set I get. Thank you for visiting Hillbilly Garage. We are glad you stopped by, we hope to see you again often.

@@Hillbillygarage1215 Yes like a cone to yur first question and no to removing the ramp , what i have found flowing the 187 is u can pick up quite a bit modding the end of the swirl ramp by angling it in so air can flow past both sides of the valve stem , the two air streams converge and dump out the port right into the center of the cylinder , looking down the runner to where it meets the bowl u will have a L shape as you also have widened the sort side as part of angling the ramp back.

@@Hillbillygarage1215 Yeah, he seen the videos that Charles Servedio Head porting And Flow Bench channel on here. I have seen him in the comments there.🙄 Charles has a playlist on the 193 swirl port heads, he took them all the way to over 300 CFM on the intake side and over 200 CFM on the exhaust side. The mods would be basically the same for the 187 swirl port heads. He even posted how to modify the port while keeping the 1.94"/1.50" factory valves the 193 heads came with. Wow, I can't believe that guy acted like those were mods he came up with.🙄 Also if you plan on doing much more port work you might want to invest in a better grinder and burrs especially grinding cast iron.😎👍

Also be careful laying back the short side because it's a bit thin as you'll see in his video series if you watch them.😎👍

@@Hillbillygarage1215 You are very welcome sir. You're going to like that video series, he really goes into detail with flow bench numbers for each step he did to see if it was a gain or loss. He is good at answering questions in his comments to, at least on his new videos anyway but you can try on the older ones. I have never tried so I don't know.😎👍

It's the worst head they ever made because the technology that went into its design is well beyond the comprehension of most people who look at it , the company that helped develop that head currently produces some of the most exotic heads money can buy.
