    Perhaps, for railroad companies today, and for the government of this country, the memory of a steam train is meaningless. But for us train lovers, this video is really very meaningful and very precious. Perhaps at this time the state government and railroad companies only think about getting as much profit as possible, and do not care about the beauty, and the memories of the past.     B51 38 is one of two preserved B51, but after Jakarta Fair 1980, it was scrapped

    I will say, Indonesia certainly had the greatest and most varied rail network of Southeast Asia. Thai/Malay were close seconds.

    0:58 that B loco looks strugling there. is it because of the poor conditions? (lots of steam leaking out from the front of the loco)

    Hello, Mr John Raby! May i ask you something ? When i watch your video and saw C27 running fast with her coaches (6:21), it looks like she playing her whistle. If so, what does it sound like ?

    I'm afraid that wind noise meant that the sound was not good enough to use so I muted that part. You may be able to find the sound of the C27 whistle on some of the other footage around Rangkasbitung station.

    No, it's video shot around 1982 just before the end of mainline steam. There were steam passenger trains at Madiun (Ponorogo branch), Chibatu (Garut branch) and Rangkasbitung (Labuhan branch and Merak line - trains for the ferry to Sumatra) - and some steam on freight, PW and inspection trains.
