PMQs: Rishi Sunak 'absolutely shocked' by Michelle Mone revelations

During PMQs, Rishi Sunak told MPs he was 'absolutely shocked' to read the Guardian's investigation into Tory peer Michelle Mone.
Subscribe to Guardian News on KZread ► bit.ly/guardianwiressub
It was revealed Mone profited millions from government Covid contracts after she lobbied ministers on behalf of Medpro and LFI Diagnostics. It has since been revealed LFI Diagnostics was an entity of office that manages wealth of her husband, Douglas Barrowman. The PM assured the house 'there is a process to follow' after Mone took a leave of absence with an immediate effect in order to 'clear her name'.

Graham Turner. And you know this how exactly ? ? People were desparate for PPE. single tender action was the way to go and, some bad choices were made. If the EU procurement directives had been followed (as an example) - for multi million pound Government procurements, a nine month lead time would've ensued before a contract was even placed ! Is he a bit dim or something? All the rest of us were just waiting for someone to start to hold these people to account as it was clear at the time that dodgy deals were being done outside the official government procurement process. All kinds of government handouts were made to random business people with no track record in the area that they were being paid to work in. Some deals were probably justifiable but some very likely were not.

When is the current prime minister going to accept that Keir Starmer is right, instead of justifying his ineptitude by claiming to have been equally surprised by someone from his party stealing millions of pounds while the country was in a state of fear? Little Rishi was on the front bench at the time, as chancellor. He should have known exactly where the big money was coming from and going to. Bad grammar, sorry.

The normal procedure is for the whip to be withdrawn at the start of an investigation. This investigation started a year ago and now she's decided herself to take a leave of absence. That's not normal and suggests she's holding serious power over someone. It's also not allowed for her to take leave of absence while under investigation as that would technically stop the investigation

i can understand that in the early days of the pandemic taking its grip that both the Government and Whitehall were willing to accept any offers of help to provide PPE and with the best of intentions, relaxing the rules and being more flexible. Japan also, which is extremely rigid and inflexible in its approach to rules, suddenly became more flexible. So much so, that as a 31 year Japan resident, I found it both surprising and refreshing. However, it is abundantly clear that more than a few in the UK Government and Whitehall, went well beyond being practical and flexible and sought to line their pockets with gold. Absolutely disgraceful and makes a mockery of those who simply helped to fast track a normally lengthy process in order to help others. Yes, despite the obvious corruption and cronyism, I still believe that many simply used their MP privileges (of any party) to help the country,
