When I left india, the name was Bombay. I don't know when they changed the name. But I will make a sincere effort to call that city Mumbai. Although I think the Indian cinema industry is called Bollywood, am I right or not? My favorite star was Shammi Kapoor. I am lucky to have lived in that era. Now they have movies like Archie, which doesn't make any sense to me.

The nickname "bollywood" is considered demeaning ... but people find it a convenient usage. It refers to only the Hindi film industry based in Mumbai... There are many other film industries in Bharath 🇮🇳 and the copycat suffix "wood" is getting added to every such entertainment industry :/

There are hoods and ghettos across the US cities like Los angles or new york, etc. These parts of the city are the most neglected with high crime rate and rampant drug use. Atleast in slums in Mumbai are not that rampant in crime and drug and is a big financial hub for small scale industries.
