PM Magazine Chicago - "Son of Svengoolie" (1981)
Ойын-сауық
Here's a great feature on Rich Koz and the Son of Svengoolie that aired on PM Magazine Chicago featuring Mike Leiderman. Has a lot of really great footage, even of some famous Berwyn landmarks. (having grown up in the area this footage is priceless to me)
So many great things in this piece it's almost hard to count - love the footage of old WFLD in Marina City - I don't know anywhere else where you can see what it used to look like. I like the Kaiser-era logo hanging down and then the original logo next to the elevator. Really cool...
This is from the master 3/4" tape of the story, so it doesn't have the PM Magazine graphics that were shown on the off-air version. (you can see that version here: • WFLD Channel 32 - PM M... )
(notice that the colorbars don't say WFLD on them) ;-)
This aired on local Chicago TV on Friday, July 31st 1981.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

There's innuendos
I've been watching since the days of Bishop, and still watch. The centerpiece of my Saturday evening. "Calling all stations!"
Youngoolie! Thanks Svengoolie for making our Saturday nights fun again!! Love you brother! 🎥🧛🏻♂️
I had the good fortune to meet Rich once, and he was the most personable, down to earth guy imaginable. He gave me an autographed picture, and actually apologized for not having anything cool to give me. A true class act. Unfortunately, due to a vindictive ex wife, I no longer have that picture.
Thank you for posting this! Love Rich Koz, God bless him!
Wonderful!!!!-Eternal blessings rich koz!!!!
I loved the 79s as a kid, Between Channel 32 and 44 there were a dozen monster movies every weekend including Svengoolie!
I love you Svengooli 💖 this is awesome!!!

Thus changed the world as we know it.
Eddie Murphys Mr. Robinsons Neighborhood skit came two years later... just saying.... SNL's second cast was a the switcheroo between SNL and SCTV which still had its original workshop on the campus of The University Of Chicago. They were certainly aware of Rich Koz's work

Tim Kazurinsky ripped it off
He reminds me of Dr Paul Bearer in Florida. That must have been fun.
Ber-wyn!!
Who are the other horror hosts he mentions? I would love to see them, especially if as he says they do not interrupt a classic film like Sven always does!
Koooooooz
He's really cute without all that make-up;)
THX THX :)
Channel 32 was so good before it went to FOX

Why did he drop the accent?

My guess would be that it just got harder to maintain the accent as he got older.
