Plymouth Notchback Barracuda Transformation: Part 2

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The work has finally began on this 1968 Plymouth Barracuda notchback for ‪@blakesmusclecar‬ . This is part 2 in its full color transformation back to the original color. In this video, I am scraping years of paint from the car in preparation to begin fixing dents and priming the car.
I want to show the full process of the work to show my way of tackling this sized project and to show the complete before and after transformation!

    Just to add to Joe’s awesome work we are trying to get all of the new/restored trim, grills, etc ready for when Joe is done he can install. Should be a different car when he is done. It’s going to be 1968 all over again.

    Making this fish slippery wet again, knocking all the barnacles off! I Love that the scraping technique is keeping all of that clearcoat out of your lungs and the atmosphere. It also allows you to see all the imperfections as the layers come off, such an organic hands on approach, bitchin! ❤

    Hey Joe, I'm glad you are making videos on this. My 65' Coronet 500 has black laquer over the original gold, and that paint is more than 40 years old.. I bet it was really nice once, but the last owners buddy too a razor blade to a couple areas and took it down to the original color. My buddy, (last owner), was going to buff the black back to life, well, until he saw his boss scraped a few spots!! I've had it 19 years and have done zero with the paint. (Not much with the rest of the car either)! :( Anyway, I now see what his boss was saying about the black coming off without my damage to what is under it. Also, I would love to hear your feelings on that drum sander.... Maybe after you have put it to some serious work. It looks like a serious time saver... Keep killin it, buddy!!!

    Nobody can say a damned negative thing about that job. That turned out better than the vast majority of the scraper jobs I was a part of back in the 90s and that was quite literally my entire job. Day in and day out, scrape scrape scrape. It was pretty painful to watch in a ptsd sort of way but the results are amazeballs brother! Honestly, I think you have to be the luckiest guy in the autobody world getting that to scrape so easy. I have a special product I treat rust with too and it beats anything on the market and few know about it. Messy but effective. No more rust comes with a price lol. I can't believe how crappy that clear is man. Wow a razor blade and it curles up in sheets. Dam. PPG doesn't do that lol. Wonder what brand that was. My red d100 is like that too. Total newb here: I dont see many people scrape paint off like this. Why scrape when you can grind or media blast? Cost? More control? I heard your comment on not having dust everywhere

  • @cjm5002

    @cjm5002

    20 күн бұрын

    In my experience its a combination of all of those plus quality. Getting rid of the harder outer most shell of paint first makes blocking a breeze. Think of it like sanding on two unlike surfaces, hard and soft. Which one will sand off, grind, or media blast faster? You will be at bare metal on one spot and still on the hard first layer 1/2" away and then get bumps and thin metal spots, etc.

  • @JustMoparJoe

    @JustMoparJoe

    19 күн бұрын

    CJM has it! Once this is scraped off, the under layers fly off with a simple DA sander and 80 grit. You don’t really want to grind on the panels because they will thin out and warp. The scraping probably sped this whole job up 2x, and will will ensure now that we go to bare metal.
