Surely your video was the best explained I found. Talking about passing quality is so narrow, not many people care about all that, so how to get the maximum quality out of your equipment. My doubt is. I have an Acer i7 with gtx1650 and I like to transmit my movies via HDMI cable to my LG C2, using kmplayer or the native windows player. But my question is, which is the best source of quality? PLEX or DIRECT HDMI CABLE from laptop? And finally, if the lg tv's native player was compatible with all types of codecs and videos, (which unfortunately it isn't), would you use the external hard drive connected directly to the tv? I believe this is the ultimate form of video quality, no hdmi cables or plex streaming. What do you think? thanks

Thank you!! Anything direct is always gonna be better than streaming. You won’t(shouldnt) get any buffering issues. There is a PLEX MEDIA PLAYER for windows and Macs. Its basically a PLEX app for desktops and laptops and it works pretty good. And as far as the LG with no native app, an external hard drive would be the best. You just wont get the pretty album art or info.

Hi great video! Does the Plex Server or Client use more processing power? I just started using Plex so I'm using a midrange laptop as my server and a PS4 Pro as my client which is connected to my 4K TV. I tried playing an uncompressed 4K remux with transcoding turned off. As expected it could not play the file, and showed the message "Not enough CPU for conversion of this item". Now I'm considering getting an Nvidea Shield Pro. My question is, should the server be replaced or the client? Perhaps both? I'm unsure what the limiting factor is. Thanks!

In my opinion the PS4 is gonna be the bigger prob. The PS4 will pretty much have to play downsampled content. Plex doesnt take a lot of CPU power UNLESS you need to transcode. In that case you will need to upgrade to a better computer with more processing power. You could buy a shield and use it as your server and client. The Shield has a PLEX server baked in. I did that for a while but eventually went back to a custom HTPC for the best experience.

Also an Nvidia Shield will direct play anything, so if you want to wait to upgrade your PC, you should be able to direct play from your laptop to the shield, but at some point I would highly recommend upgrading your PC as well

Hello, we have the same version of Nvidia Shield Pro from 2017. I also play my ripped Movies from my NAS thru a gigabit network. are you also encountering playback and movie timeline tracking issues for movies with TrueHD7.1 track? Since the recent update of both the Shield and Plex app, I was having that problem.

@@sotirios666 Sounds great! Setting up a PLEX server is fun! Just a disclaimer though, the Apple TV doesnt support bistream for Dolby Atmos & DTS:X(Apple limitation) So if you’re planning on ripping your discs with those formats, it won’t work on the Apple TV. It will for streaming but not local media. And if you’re using the Oppo’s HDMI in for the advanced video processing, you may experience audio drop out issues switching from movies with Dolby Audio to movies with DTS audio. But report back and let us know!

@@sotirios666 Yes it definitely will pass the audio. But Apple TV has limitations at no fault of the Oppo. However, it could just be my unit, but when using the HDMI in on the Oppo, using an Nvidia Shield I was able to pass through ALL audio codecs. But I noticed that if I was watching a movie with a Dolby track and then switched to a movie with a DTS track or vice versa, the Oppo would lose audio for whatever reason. And I would have to reboot the Oppo by unplugging the power cable. A normal reboot didnt work. But try it and let me know if you get the same issue. Could just be my unit.
