    Also- if you do go to a con and find yourself separated from your group I promise if you look around you will find safe people to hang out with to ward off any creeps. There'll be staff, there'll be other con goers, there'll be moms hanging out in sitting areas while their teens enjoy the con these are all people you can strike up a conversation with if you're feeling lonely, anxious, or actually being bothered by someone.

    I have a motor mouth. The more nervous I get the worse it gets. I find myself interrupting people, stopping mid sentence in absolute horror and then apologizing profusely. Tyler's advice sounds like how some of my best friendships started. It's really a kindness to all involved. But I am largely self aware, and will often find myself uninterested in what I'm talking about mid-ramble, and have no problem saying so. Usually to delight and confusion by the others subjected to my ramblings.

    This is just what I was thinking . Sounds like anxiety to me. It would definitely be very beneficial to have somebody help her through it by just pointing it out and even just some on the side real talk before a meet up could help too.

    Yeah, from Violet's description I almost wonder if the person is experiencing some combo of rusty social skills and over stimulation at these larger events. I would even suggest going a step further and seeing if someone close to them might be willing to have a conversation with them about it, if gentle redirection doesn't work.

    I don't understand how the anime convention hasn't just moved off that date. Anime conventions have always been billed as a family friendly event. Where miners can bring parents in tow type a ticket pricing. So it's very odd that they would continue to be yes we are a convention for the family sharing the same building at the same time as an 18 plus convention with all the same shared space. How does no one see how that's an easy way to have something go wrong and tarnish both conventions reputations. Because the legit people at the adult con don't do that and the kids and the non-consenting at the anime convention don't want to do that. Cosplay is consent is already hard enough to enforce, has gotten better, so mixing them together is a recipe for disaster. There's probably a bunch more instances similar to this whether or not it's a minor who cannot give consent or an adult who didn't give consent, there are too many predators out there that this cannot be a good overlap.

    Grown adults who can distinguish the difference and go to what they went to attend. There are creepy dudes regardless at anime gatherings. There are creepy dudes at my local grocery store....blaming crap people on an entire group is ignorant. This is probably also a stark reminder to make sure that children as young as 14 have a guardian or parent present. There's a whole lot wrong here, least of all being what the place decided to host.

  • @Arcanist_Gaming

    @Arcanist_Gaming

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@LilyLovecraft Yeah, no. Hosting a porn convention at the same location raises the chances of creepers whether you want to admit it or not, and no one is "blaming an entire group" for anything. Events that host children/teens and those of an explicit nature should not share space and time, period. This shouldn't even _be_ a debate. Furthermore, apparently _you_ are ignorant to people's circumstance. Not everyone _has_ an available adult to take them places, do you think that this means they should miss out on attending events that _should_ be mostly safe and indulging in their interests like a normal, healthy human being? People's parents have to _work,_ so unless you're of a specific social class or your parents and/or a relative have a very specific work schedule there's a pretty good chance they can't take days off for such an event. Saying "Oh, there's creepers at anime conventions too" doesn't really add to the conversation. For the most part, those creepers are just going to lurk and stare, not try to recruit a minor into goddamn pornography the minute they turn eighteen. That same logic can be used for literally _any_ social circumstance; you're basically either a: advocating for living a life in fear and having to be babysat for eternity (which is fucking _terrible_ considering the already rising rates of generalized and social anxiety, holy shit) or b: blaming the person and/or their caregivers for circumstances that are likely beyond their control. Whichever of these positions are true in regards to your statement, you're either completely self-centered, actively victim blaming, or just _trying_ to be an asshole. At any rate, I urge you to think a bit more carefully before weighing in on something like this.

    Story 2 Going to a con in a group of trusted friends is a great way to enjoy your meetups up and cons. You can always message for help (if the internet is not being a butt), and having a hotel room as a base to cool down and destress will help reduce the stress.

  • @Rakealia
    @Rakealia2 жыл бұрын

    As someone who is introverted and socially awkward, groups of 4 or less I can keep track of fairly easily, when the amount gets higher, I get more and more stressed out, and I either run out of social batteries entirely and hide in a corner somewhere, or I shut off and force myself to socialize. Which when I'm nervous I ramble... because the alternative is just never talking at all. And I have yet to find a good balance to that... it took forever to just get beyond being super shy and hiding in a corner. :/ On the other hand, if I even get a tiny whiff of being unwanted, I'm gone with a slew of apologies. And well, convention wise, I've only ever been to one convention, and it was in a casino hotel in Las Vegas, and well, I was in cosplay... but I never got any rude comments from anyone thankfully. Most I got was some curious casino guests. I have been molested by an old dude in a China Town during Chinese New Years though when I was 15 and it certainly made me a LOT more wary of such places, but it didn't stop me from going back either. Having a good friend group and sticking to them like glue is really helpful.

    My advice for Carrot Cake would be that you would've been well within your rights to smack him in the face. That said, when you're 14 and having an encounter with that caliber of creepy, it usually leaves you pretty stunned. I totally understand your trepidation at attending any other events. But the longer you wait to get back out there, the scarier it'll be, and the harder it'll be to put yourself out there again. And thus you deprive yourself of a potentially wonderful experience for even longer. I also suggest continuing to focus on all the wonderful people you might meet, who are genuinely overjoyed to see you living your frilliest life, and the other lolitas you can meet, who will be just as eager to protect you from perverts. Also, come up with a game plan in the event you ever are approached by an unsavory character again. Think of what you would say, if they invade your personal space repeatedly, don't be afraid to smack them with a parasol or bop them in the nose. Also, don't be afraid to report the incident. You'll potentially protect others from said pervert in the future. Also maybe try a different convention that doesn't book a "corn convention" the same days. Freaking disgusting.

    In what way? Without a moment where the antagonisy is publicly shamed and the narrator is glorified, what ùakes it an "and everybody clapped" story? Creepy encounters where the person creeped on has no idea how to react at the time and remains mostly passive, only to stew in their (usually her) trauma afterwards, do happen all the time. The creeper being a porn producer would be implausible if not for the circumstances.
