Deryck Guyler, absolute legend.
Back in the day when 'Kids' didn’t leave school until they were 40

Like in To Sir With Love. Some of the class looked about 24.

Given the fact many kids left school aged 16 back in those days, you'd think they could have got some budding young actors to play the roles, wouldn't you.

@@Wally-H I left school at 15 in 1965 and already had a job waiting as did all the other lads who left. Back then if you didn't like a job you could easily walk out on a Friday and get another job elsewhere on the Monday. How times changed!

@@Bulletguy07 Indeed. I was at secondary school from 1978 - 84 and many kids still left when they were 16. We had a sixth form but I would say less than a third of my school year stayed on for it and most that did were re-taking O Levels they had failed, or doing O levels because they only got CSE's. A select few did A levels with a view to going to uni.
So sorry to see Please Sir episodes removed from KZread. As a housebound person without a TV watching this lovely series on my phone was a great comfort.
I’d forgotten how funny it still is - think I was still at secondary school when this was on TV. The good ol’ days
This is when you had kids that acted right and wanted to learn and respectful to the teacher . No drugs and school shootings . Peace in Christ .
I really enjoy these half hourly programs, so entertaining thank you so much..

Happy memories of a brilliant programme during my school days!
Doris😊 the teacher was on an episode of Fawlty Towers very funny
They don't make these Television pearls like that anymore.
I have the movie on Dvd and I watched it last night. Its quite good and cocky to see.
You just can't beat English Comedy.

I loved this show when a kid in the 70s. Very popular in Australia. In my opinion the US series Welcome Back Cotter, of which I hated, was a rip off of Please Sir. The same thing happened with Steptoe and Son, US came out with Sanford and Son. British shows were much better!
Preffered Penny Spencer in it ,anyone know why she left/was replaced ?
ALWAYS LOVED Duffy's accent in particular.LONDONERS.....WHERE is Duffy's accent from?. Also love that mighty 1970's BATTLEAXE joan Sanderson as Doris!. As this episode featured TV it reminded me that, for some reason never explained, the TV @ our school in Aldershot only had an indoor aerial so the teachers would spend ten solid minutes before the programme faffing around the room trying to get a decent signal!!. CAPTION: "The Next Programme (How We Used To Live/Picture Box/Merry Go Round/Seeing and Doing etc, etc)follows shortly"

@7:17 AMAZING how swiftly and accurately Potter "assumed the position".He may not have been watching TV when he was @ school but he might well have had a look @ "Mein Kampf".
Why don't they ever show this series again on TV? On the buses & Rising Damp still get aired
Gee those kids sure look eager to learn
Why does Sir (aah John Alderton) always sneak look at the camera?
Needs Policing that one!
Not a whole lot of school Shootings or stabbing a back then
Why are the pupils all adults?

It was NEVER explained why that was the case.I watched this in 1971 and 72 when i was a kid of 6&7.I, just like everyone else in the UK, could SEE with my eyes they were adults but it simply didn't MATTER, we just accepted them as school kids and somehow it just.....WORKED!.

probably the same reason as Hollywood films do it, it's problematic to hire kids because of legistlation protecting them. Later on, they made a kids' soap called Grange Hill. The cast of Grange Hill was made up of real kids, so it must have been a logistical nightmare! Plus, they maybe wanted a cast of adults, so they could tell dodgy jokes and viewers could 'fancy' them😁

How old do you think the cast of Welcome back Kotter were? Most were 25 or 26. I believe John Travolta was the youngest at 21. Older than some of these "students".

@@chopchung quite often in them days adults had to play the part of younger people, it was easier to have people with more acting experience. rhe film grease was the same, in that case many were in thier late 20,s and even in thier 30,s playing the part of people still at school.
30 year old school kids ' even back in the day we new it was daft 😋
They must have been the oldest school kids in history. They must have left school aged sixty five then retired
All the pupils look 20 + years old that seems so wrong and they wouldn't get away with it now Watch waterloo road and the students are teenagers all the right age
The "kids" all look like they are in their twenties! Ps where are the jokes?! So dated...
