    In my current build, I just got done doubling up all power and ground. Foamed and sound deadener everywhere., building my enclosure now. Went from one 12 on 1k to 3 12s on 4k with xs Power d3400 up front with d4900 in the back. Big upgrades for me! Super stoked! Appreciate all of your content, you've helped me make it through alot I didnt understand yet!

    Wire length matters. A two foot long 4 AWG run can support 400 amps. Your short 1/0 AWG run from the alternator will support beyond 400 amps.

    0/1 is plenty big for 350 amps. If your still getting power drop it's basically down the the alternator. Weak diode pack will do that. Also too many batteries on one alternator will really drag it down, it's worse then having the right amount of battery and powering the same amps, because you'll be charging the batteries up a lot just to keep up with the amplifiers. I often see people go way overkill with batteries and electrical, rather then focusing on the charging system.

  • @Joe_1776

    This is what I do, I clamp my power wires to see what amperage my vehicle will drain. (ac etc all on) I subtract that from the Alts total amperage then Ill fuse my alt to the amperage I have available from my alt. ( I run power wires directly off my alt to my batteries in the back) isolated from the starting battery. So, example if I have a 350 amp alt and the vehicle draws 50 max, ill fuse it with a 300 amp fuse, so the fuse will pop before I overload my alt and possibly burn it up. I run the same fuse size or smaller accordingly to the amps required size off the battery bank in the back to my amp(s). For my case this doesn't limit my amps as they are only 2ks anyway and leaves room for the batteries to pull current also as the alt tries to maintain them.

  • @Basshead40
    @Basshead403 жыл бұрын

    Yup yup, you always want the same amount of runs both from the alt and to the amp along with 2 grounds from the amp to the car body/frame just like you have 2 power runs to your amp. Also try and make the runs the same length if you're going to the super science basshead configuration aka SSBC 😆. No but really it's all one Big electrical circuit and your power/grounds should be equal everywhere for utmost optimal performance. 😎👍

    I have 4 runs fused 0ga OFC off a JS370 going to the back bank 1 to the front battery not fused. Under hood I put the frame ground, alt ground and battery ground all on a SMD buss bar. Back battery Bank has 4 grounds to frame Highs amp has its own frame ground. I don't use chassis grounds or body grounds all go to clean bare metal frame it's a truck so frame is solid front to back

    If you use welding cable it’s cheaper in price tougher than regular wire and it’s like almost fire proof like the idea about the extra wire on the alternator I have an extra alt and battery set up just for my system that way it never effects the charging system on my ride and if I blow the alternator for my system or break a belt on it I can still go home and not get towed I’ve got a circuit I can switch on to use the set up to jump my ride if I ever would need it !

And create playlists on how to wall-off different vehicle types. SUV ✅ Or show how to build a normal C-pillar wall in your SUV next, not 4th or 6th order bcuz most of us have daily drivers and need back seats.

Now you can get you some heater hose there’s 5/8 and 3/4 you run your cable though that that way you have extra protection just put it as high on the frame not on top inside top and keep it away from the exhaust pipes and you should be fine I run it through the fire wall and down in the door threshold most the time it’s got a nice troth from front to back that way it’s inside

    I fear adding a chassis ground to a second battery and or an amp can cause feedback from a ground loop (ex. Engine noise). So I don't use my chassis for any part of my amp grounds. Only run front batt neg to second batt neg, then to amps. I did read somewhere a guy warning everyone of risking popping your amps from doing this. I can't remember if he was suggesting to use chassis or you NOT use chassis as ground IN ADDITION TO running direct grounds from batts to amps.

  • @2869may

    @2869may

    3 жыл бұрын

    I read that creates an "open circuit" to the amp and could be detrimental in specific circumstances. The chassis is what distributes the current so the amp doesn't get it all if a problem occurred... Might be worth looking into a little more just to be safe. And I always heard that the lack of good ground is the main reason for engine noise, and they often suggest grounding directly to the chassis. It even said if using a 2nd battery, to connect it's neg to the chassis as well then connect the amp neg to the chassis close to that and the chassis will act as a current dump instead of your amp... The writer seemed intelligent and well spoken...

    I'm assuming with this setup, the alternator has a internal regulator and thats what prevents overcharging and all the vcm does is change output voltage depending on wether your running agm or lithium right? So your stock computer isn't controlling charging anymore but the alternator and vcm does?

XS Power D6500 up front & 2 XP 2000 batteries in the rear in a 2010 Navigator. Is this fine or should I get a larger alternator? Thank you Oh also I'm thinking of adding a 10 farad competition compacitor after my batteries. Thanks for any replies

  • @JacobViral2

    Your alternator size will be good, bigger is always better but for your watts range it’ll be fine. You should invest in a voltage meter amzn.to/3vNA7GQ and go from there. Monitor your voltage when playing and if it drops too low past mid 12volt range add more battery reserve. Don’t get a farad capacitors as it doesn’t help reserve like an agm battery.

You can cover the grey conduit with spray on underbody coating And could run the conduit in driveline tunel to keep it up and out of the way etc

    It's always best to talk to the manufacturer about H/O at idle if you plan on doing demos or playing your system full tilt @ idle. You'd be surprise to know a lot of lower output amperage alts say 240-270 range can almost do full output @ idle around 200amps and can do full rated output slightly above. I run dual 270's that will do 400 amps @ idle, I don't like revving my vehicle during demos. Depends on your needs, for me, charging @ 15.8 to 160ah yinlong. Some vehicles you can hook up a device to your obd plug and control your idle rpm to stay wherever you set it with a push of a button. I forget the name of it but a guy had one for his jeep and it was pretty cool feature.

    @@Thumper68 you won’t audibly notice the different unless you meter. It’s more in the box location and port location/tuning. I’ve noticed subs load better when subs up port back for how the pressure containment and sound waves work. Also notice all the big competitors always have subs forward or up and port back.

    @@JacobViral2 Thanks exact info I was looking for about pressure and sound waves really. I had assumed this but the only stupid question is the one not asked. It’s weird how I been installing all my own stuff and all my buddies for 20 years and no matter how much experience one gets it’s nice to bounce ideas off someone else who’s also experienced for some reason even if you know their answer most likely🤣! Keep up the good work!

    @@JacobViral2 should maybe explain to people about alternator ratings at rpm. Many people don’t realize how they work. I see people reving up to 3-3500 or more and I’m like dude you need to lookup your alternator and understand it will make max power at whatever 2200 so when your reving so high your just wasting fuel and making heat soak and engine wear!

    The factory alt wire is the fuse. It's called a fusible link. Basically a section of the wire is much smaller than the rest and acts like a fuse
