I also don't think you get a +1 just if Republic is above Monarchy but if it's the government. So Despotism and Republic being at 5 wouldn't stack for a French Army +2 from the Political track. Republic gives you free action removal of Disorder in Paris and Despotism gives you the only +1 from the track. I think that, plus the cumulative effect of having such an early accidental skip in enemy army movements made the score so wildly high. The expansion content, if folks are interested, adds some options that really help the player out (including disordering the enemies a la Cruel Necessity).

What a fantastic playthrough of a fantastic game! I saw some rules errors but wow, I really enjoyed watching this. 14:35 you say the DRM of the French track doesn't change throughout the turn but the immediate effect is described in the example on top of page 7. 38:00 Any military action in the 4 At Sea space has to be done vs the Royal Navy strength (4) and against the navy you can't use the French Army DRM.

Also didn't advance Piedmont and Austria at the 16 minute mark.

Thanks for the video. I will play it soon and hope to find it entertainment. It does look pretty mechanic and repetitive though.

My favourite SOS game. Too bad they discontinued the app. It was such a good implementation.

Turn 3 you didn’t activate the armies (Prussia, Austria, Vendee)

I picked up this game last week... Looks great! (Plus I love French history.) Thank you for this very helpful play-through session. So I've got a game-play question... When playing a basic game -- WITHOUT the Expansion rules (Spain, Russia, Napoleon counter, etc.) -- do you remove the 12 additional Expansion event cards before starting, or do you include them in the draw deck anyway and simply ignore any Expansion references? Thanks!

You would remove the expansion cards.

This is unfortunately my least favorite SOS game; I find that the play is FAR too dependent on the political tracks, and that there is too little correlation between the various converging armies advance paths and the historical narrative. To cite two examples, I find there is little historical correlation between advance of Austrian and Prussian armies and the various cards events; at the same time, spending late game actions on promoting the republican track and beating back despotism and monarchy tracks provide huge swings in victory points. I also fail to see why Napolean rise to power should be anything less than a victory, which it seems to be in this game. I'm a big fan of the historical narrative and find that I tend to gravitate towards Soviet Dawn over this game, at least in terms of the SOS series.
