One headset working on two platforms both with uncompressed video. Love it!

I think this is just more evidence that console manufactures are following a multi-platform strategy - console exclusive at first, then roll it out to pc later. bare in mind, many PS peripherals have PC support... so, its not new. I don't really see this having any impact on either PS5/PSVR2 or the PCVR market... rather ticks a box, helps counter being fixed to the PS5 ecosystem. anyway... good for those that have a PSVR2, and a PC (or were considering buying one)

If Sony want to shift some PSVR2 headsets they're going to have try a bit harder I think. On Playstation I use an original PSVR and the PSVR2 is too expensive and doesn't have any games that I want so no reason for me to upgrade. On PC, if I was going to buy a VR headset, then I can pick up a Quest 3 for a similar amount of cash.

Looking forward to a Half-life: Alyx stream on the channel to test the headset out through the PC, I think Sony have realised that PSVR2 cannot survive/sell as just a PlayStation headset, mainly due to the lack of quality real games to play on it, steam to the rescue LOL, cheers for the info Jason

Lol it really does seem like Steam to the rescue.

Why didn't they announce this in their recent State of Play which was advertised to be VR2 related?

Well this isn't about PlayStation as such, it's using their hardware on another platform. So nothing to announce as such.

@@GametechUK yeah.. and with that they will indirectly admit that it didn’t reach their sales goal.

Has Sony either essentially binned the psvr2 or by it being compatible with PC, buy a bit time for content on ps5.

Maybe, they had enough time though I would say.

I’ll still use my quest 2 as I don’t find the psvr2 as comfortable

The only reason that Sony has done this is that they have an absolute ton of unsold headsets. It's basically a bodge job to get it to work with PC in an attempt to reduce their unsold inventory. There are PC headsets, like the Quest 3 that are more PC orientated and offer better features for PC users than the PSVR2 at a lower price. VR on Playstation is effectively dead. The headset costs more than the PS5 and very few developers are interested in developing for it. I don't see many people opting for the PSVR2 over what is already available on the PC market. The only thing this will do is allow those who were scammed into buying the PSVR2 to bring it over to a PC.

But like you said, there are cheaper options already available in the PC VR space, so this isn't really going to help them sell a backlog.

@@GametechUK Yeah, but Sony are in a little bit of a panic over the unsold inventory, and they see this as a possible way out. It probably won't work, but that is indeed Sony's intention.

This just confirms the innevitable, Sony have washed their hands of VR. To be honest, VR hasn't taken off the way Sony would have liked, its because they don't release "Full games" just experiences. Plus its a lot of money for ppl to fork out 👍
