I love my Portal when I’m home but outside of it I think it was a huge waste of money. I can’t connect it by using my hotspot and that’s the main reason I wanted it, to use it away from home

Some network providers use NAT 3, i think, so this can stop you. Also, i have seen videos of people lanually typing in their hotspot SSID rather than just connecting from the wifi list, and that seems to have worked. To get the best out of mine out of the house, i set up port forwarding on my ISP router, and that has made a huge difference

I purchased the PS PORTAL strictly for use at work when I’m free. I work at a hospital and in most areas there’s no mobile network reception. You can only use the WIFI. I had no idea that there wasn’t a web browser on the PS PORTAL. $200 down the drain.😞 I’m praying 🙏🏾 for an update otherwise I’m going to have to return it.😢😢

For the Bluetooth you can connect a USBC Bluetooth adapter to the back of the portal to use any earbuds including airpods

Can you make a video about using a portable travel router like the gl inet to be used on hotels etc to bypass the captive portal / logins?

So I need to move my router and modem and PlayStation 5 on to a table.Get an Ethernet cable that are short,and connect the router modem to the PS5.I will not be able to hook it back up to the television if I move all of this stuff.Is that okay?Do I have to hook it back up to the TV to use the PlayStation Portal?

While the battery life is certainly a concerning issue, I think people have unrealistic expectations of this device. It is a very niche product, has a very specific purpose. I don't even play on my PS5 anymore, just through the portal which is perfect for me. I have a fiber network, 1 GB download and upload; and the upload speed is the most crucial element to this device. So a fiber network is probably the best option for connectivity stability. I would like to see a game streaming option, even if it is a separate cost or higher tiered PS Plus expense. I don't even buy games anymore, just wait for them to be added to PS Premium and add them as available, but streaming certainly opens the amount of game options tremendously. Anyway, I wish people would have a better understanding of this device, it isn't what most of us actually want, it's for specific people. What we want is a true portable device and I think Sony is working on it and I believe we'll get our first look by the end of summer or early fall.

would you like a vita 2 for portable play of playstation games without having to stream the games?

I just bought my Portal for my birthday present later this month (will wait to open it till then). I have my PS5 set to use the 5GHz network while other stuff runs on the 2.4. I previously tested the Remote Play on my tablet using the PSPlay and Dualsense controller and it works great in my home. I was able to play a good bit of Resident Evil 2 Remake with no issues so I know if it works with the tablet I should have no issue with the Portal.

What would you recommend doing first in regards to buying a WiFi repeater to hard wire the ps5 or upgrading my home router to a gaming router? I have a very good download speed of around 700-900mbs. Maybe the standard router isn’t very good? Thanks

how is the portal running on your network just now? worth looking into powerline adapters or extenders if the router is decent? Ideally a mesh setup would be the best as you get great covereage all over your house, maybe worth looking into one

@@purepsx it runs really well most of the time, like when I’m in certain rooms close to my router (in the hallway) but when at the far end of my house it lags and sometimes drops. A mesh setup may be the answer to allow a strong signal throughout. Thanks

No video streaming is not a big miss when you think of why it cost $200 & the Bluetooth latency, again why it’s $200 & not $4-$500 like steam deck & others

Seeing I’m actually siding with the portal…

I do want one. The most annoying aspect is I can't use a bluetooth headphone on it. WTF? I have an awesome set of B&W headphones that I can plug into though. I would like this mostly for traveling purposes, so that's a huge plus. I don't do multi-player gaming or streaming so don't care about that stuff. I love the recommendation of an ethernet cable for home use if you don't have a strong router. Ultimately, this is the best review out there. Thanks so much!

I recently picked up a PS5 to play Ghost of Tsushima as I can't play it on my Xbox. I have missed playing God of War and Unchartered series as well

Nope. You can play, provided your PS5 is in Rest Mode, on any wifi network. They don't have to be the same.

The home router is definitely the main problem for most people. You hit the nail right on the head. My Portal sucked until I went and bought a beast mode, top of the line WiFi 6 router. And I also plugged an Ethernet cable directly into my PS5, as you mentioned. Made all the difference in the world. My Portal runs just as smooth and reliably as the actual PS5 console now.

Literally you don't need a piece of a router I'm in Alaska I have 500 downloads be 20 upload speed and the default router that my internet provider gave to me which is about 70 to maybe 90 bucks if you look it up online no issues.. With me saying that I will say reading the comments on Reddit it seems like a lot of people are having issues until they go and buy a new router..

@@adam3797 lol You might want to visit Alaska, then you would realize how far behind they are compared to the low 48 states.. The last five to eight years they've gotten fiber which isn't available everywhere. It cost $200 for a 2 gig download and 80 upload and it's not even fiber...

Love the portal. Always surprised how well it works compared to using the PS Remote play on my iPhone. Currently playing through NFS: Unbound and the gameplay feels amazing as if I am playing it off the PS5 itself. It does suck it has no Bluetooth but if it's for the reason of improving the remote play experience, that is okay.

All my portal issues I had were solved by getting a cheap wireless router and only having my PS5 and portal on that network I don't need to mess with settings or unplugging the HDMI don't even need to change performance mode

@@splashydiamond it's plugged in to my Internet service provider router via Ethernet then my PS5 to the 60$ wifi 5 router dlink 1200 series via Ethernet no separate plan or anything I think it comes down to bandwidth passthrough on lan u need like 740 MB/s for gta5 mine does 840ish and my portal doesn't leave my house so don't know if this solution works for on the go gaming

Been enjoying the hell out of this thing have an unlimited 5g+ data connection and have been tethering when not at home.. playing PS5 wherever I want is awesome! Gig internet at home with a wifi 6 mesh network works so great! Definitely situational, could see it being a bad time for someone with a bad home network.

That’s sucks, what kind of hotspot was it?

Check your upstream, even with an ethernet connected PS5. If the UPLOAD is weak, you'll get lagged gameplay on the portal - even in your own home. I upgraded my cable wireless (which included a better UPLOAD) and...problem solved - no matter where in the world you are, as long as the WiFi DOWNLOAD is better than 15mb.

That is completely false. When on the same network, besides initial checkin with Sonys servers, the portal does not use the internet. All streaming is done within the lan. If you are having issues, it’s the network.

I got one on release planning to get a PS5 very soon.

@@purepsx I am waiting to see what the Pro’s design, if I don’t like it then will get the slim most probably without the disk drive I started to go digital towards the end of the PS3’s lifecycle and almost all my games on the PS4 pro are digital I did buy a couple of games when I bought the PS4 pro but since then my library has been digital.

I only have 60mbps internet download speed And my router is Archer ax23 and i bought it in walmart for 25$ only. I don't have any issue with the connection with my ps portal and no lag at all, It is very smooth to play 60fps.

There is one problem you didn't mention, the stutters that happen every 10 seconds, even on a perfect network condition, all portals experience this issue, but not everybody notice it

If a 3rd party released the exact same thing but Android based for £200 I'd grab one. I have PC/Xbox/PS5, buying one streaming device when my phone and a backbone does all my devices and cloud/emulation on top of that for less money just makes this redundant to me. Or you can buy a Switch OLED and pay for it modding and get a lot more usability.

@@purepsx Ive tested oder 10 portals and euch one had sich defect... it sucks and it is a production failure. My luck ive bought the portal for 130eur in ebay

Tried almost everything, changing settings etc etc. it’s wired with an Ethernet now too but still get a slight bit of lag , which just makes it unplayable. Contacted PlayStation support and they say a discrepancy in the refresh rate between the ps5 and the portal could be the issue. Hopefully an update release can sort it

What is your upload speed on your network? The Portal needs a minimum of 10 mb/s, but in reality it needs to be quite higher. If you don't have fiber try seeing if it is available in your area. Also, change your PS5 network settings to use 5 Ghz.

Speed is 75 download and 19 upload so fairly good. Should be good enough in my opinion. Yes very interesting mate. The portal refreshes at exactly 60hz the PS5 refreshes at 59.94, this little difference apparently causes this slight stutter as they re-sync with one another I’m guessing an update that locks the devices exactly at 60hz with each other 👍🏻

There will always be input delay. Thats the nature of playing a stream.

I used this channels idea and used a Bluetooth transmitter. I already had one. But I use my regular ear buds and works perfectly. Now I haven't tested out my house, but the link in his video for accessories works.

@purepsx I got em all. I chose a all black silicone case, and a matte finish screen prot3ctor so no glare. And as I said the rf transmitter and thumbs ticks covers. I'm set and also did the settings that you recommended. You were spot on and I haven't played my p5 since just the portal. Thanks for the great videos I subscribed as well keep up the good work

I just purchased a Bluetooth transmitter

A mesh wifi with high data transfer up and down. Boom. No problems. My internet down is 1 gig, upload 50 mb. Away from home the same data transfer is needed.

LoL. I bought one to use while going to bed and hanging out in the living room with family while the kids have the TV. My PS5 is in my guitar room though, so I can play it anytime. This just allows me to be able to have family time too. I've actually done almost 100% of my gaming on it now.

@@purepsx nah I seen the specs why would I waste money it's not 120hz and the latency isn't good enough to play somewhat competitively its 2024 we have the technology to have a 120hz screens and mini game consoles in our pockets why would they not add this to the portal if the PS5 supports it also moonlight and Nvidia game stream already have this if you have a PC you can utilize the 120hz screen on your phone and even stream in 4k 120 and the latency is actually playable in competitive games the PlayStation streaming app only allows 720p 60 and the latency is garbage and they only do this to try and force you to buy this garbage product
