I plugged in a PS5 dongle from Amazon and used my Bose headphones on my Portal; it works well. I like the ability to be moved around, not tied to the TV and or monitor.

Look at the lag when he’s playing COD MP. He presses L2 to ADS and there’s 150-200ms lag. If you’re competitive at all, that’s absolutely unplayable.

I so seen them when I pre-ordered this in September.. im usually good with getting what I need.. man!! This thing Is better then I suspected.. I ordered all that but it took 10 days . I think its coming from China.. so I put my portable back in the box until then 😂😂

Probably already answered it but if I take this anywhere that has WiFi will be able to play the games that I have installed on the console, or does it have to be linked to the same WiFi that my console is under

Works pretty good on same Wifi but definitely a noticeable difference in quality over 5G away from home usin mobile hotspot. Im at work and I wont be bringing back to work as the visual quality is just not there. It does work but its blurred. Not a deal breaker but ill try over a friends house on their wifi to see how it works.

The only problem is that remote WiFi unless it’s at a house is super slow. Hotels WiFi are terrible and that makes this a device that has to be played at home. I don’t understand

Thanks for sharing your experience. Internet connection has to be solid. I have 600Mbps and mine works flawlessly. Maybe try hooking your ps5 up to an Ethernet connection. Might make things a bit more stable.

You’ll need the internet to get your Portal setup initially (sign into PSN, download a patch, etc.) but once you’re up and running you will only need your router assuming your PS5 and remote play device are both connected to it. Then you’d only need internet afterwards for firmware updates down the road. For example- I have 2 PS5s. One is wired to my main router and my 2nd is on WiFi in my basement. I fully intend on taking out an old router, wiring it to my second PS5, and using it for remote play in the event my primary ps5 is being used by a family member and I want to remote play off my 2nd PS5. So on my second PS5 if I want remote play- plug in the Ethernet cable. Want to play PS5 normal? Unplug it and it will switch over to my main routers wifi with internet.

I have played a lot of MW3. Its impressive. When playing you forget you’re streaming. I don't feel any latency or lag. But my broadband speed is 600Mbps so maybe that helps. Even playing with 5G hotspot through my phone was not bad at all. There was the occasional stutter with 5G but I could still play competitive multiplayer games with no issues.

Exactly the same here,mines is totally unplayable.i have 75mb upload and 50mb download fibre connection.i have bought a new gaming router so hopefully that may resolve it.

LAN is def something you should go for when playing multiplayer games. Doesn't matter how good WIFI is it will always be better with LAN

m confused how this would be good for Mw3 as this portable doesn't seem fit for multiplayer games because of the slight delay. That sight delay will have a lot to say in multiplayer games like Mw3. For story mode games however it will be good. Also dont forget about stick drift. How will that be handled? Because we all know ps5 controllers get stick drift after a while specially if you play multiplayer games. You have to buy a entire new playstation portable to fix it

ive been looking everywhere to get the portal now im not sure anymore after i got my hands on the steam deck…good thing i didnt get the 1 steam deck or i wont be owning the oled now..the same with the portal i feel like after a year sony will release an improved version of the portal…fully touch screen and the bluetooth not limited anymore i feel like thats a cheap shot from sony…

The playstation has to be on in order to play on the portal. But you can turn on your playstation on if it is on restmode using the portal. And both the playstation and the portal must be online to play with the portal.

Can you turn on/off your PS5 with this? Or do just have to have your PS5 on stand by to play? Does the PS5 turn on from stand by when you use the portal? Do you have to turn the console off yourself after playing?

Just got mine yesterday I’ve only had it right by my ps5 and I didn’t really notice any input lag to be honest. I’m sure the the further away from the Wi-Fi you get while connected to the same network the more lag you’ll experience. I haven’t tried it on my phone hotspot yet. I got 3 kids that dominate my tv so this things awesome. I love it so far.

I’ve seen videos saying 80 mseconds down to 18. Most of the test are just gt7 pausing the video and seeing the difference in lap time between the tv and the portal.

Every time you turn that on to play that does your PS5 turn on even when your no where near it or does it turn off? Does that make sense what I’m trying to say?

Your ps5 has to be on rest or on for the portal to connect. Depending on your tv settings it can potentially turn your tv on even if you are not there

I played a few matches of mw3 on mine and it was not the best experience. I played a few ps1 games on there and it was much more enjoyable. Ill stick to tv and controller for mw3.

Agreed, running was terrible and the joysticks dont seem like they'll last it for long. Plus the aiming is all over the place

What are people playing out and about on 5g? Growing up, i was raised to not waste energy and swotch off lights. Now im told by these companies to leave my ps5 on so i can play cod on holiday for 2 weeks 🤦🏽‍♂️

On the same local WiFi with a quality modern router the lag will be small but over 5G the lag will be worse depending on distance and how that 5G provider is peered to your ISP. Say your PS5 is on EE fibre and EE 5G and playing remote but in the same city it could be pretty good. Say your on 5G and PS5 are in different countries it could be really bad. Not all 5G is equal. It is possible to get a 5G signal that's slower than 4G like I have. Literally YMMV. Just use it at home you won't have disappointment.

I think that will be their next move. The PlayStation Portal seems like a prototype of an unfinished project. I can imagine the follow-up being a power full featured hand-held. The portal seems like a taste of what’s to come and in my opinion, the portal is already quite tasty, in terms of design, ergonomics. They nailed the haptics, it already feels like a handheld like no other. The next PS Portable will be on a another level.

I think that as well, all the development on this will carry over to the follow up. When mobile cpu/gpu become powerful and efficient enough it would not surprise me if Sony produced a perfected Gaming Phone. @@ChigzTech

No, it’s a streaming device that streams from your console. This device has no power to it, it’s just a screen mirror.

Good video but everyone's experience using a 5G hot spot may vary, not everyone is going to experience a Smooth lag experience while out and about. I think ur experience on 5G in the video was better because u were literally still pretty close to ur PS5 so there's no lag or the image quality was affected. I've already seen videos on KZread of people doing it in a park far away using a hot spot on 5G and it's completely different to what u show in the video here.

Pretty sure you can play ps4 games on it. You just have to own a ps5.

Why would they block KZread streaming, it doesn't make any sense! You already have it on the PS5... Very annoying. I've ordered it but they'd better update and unblock the media streaming.

Day 2 and I must say it’s not worth it. I have over 300mbps WiFi and it still lags. It’s not better than the backbone for gaming stability or quality it’s actually very even in a head to head comparison. The screen is great and the feel of the controls are great but that’s all

If you don’t have a solid WiFi connection then you will certainly experience input lag.

So pretty much a Wii U but for PlayStation

Fun top secret fact is that Bluetooth hardware is in fact in the device already. It's just disabled at the firmware level because Sony thought the blue audio experience sucked over remote play and didn't want to get roasted. Expect the emu community to discover this very soon and issue a workaround hack

That's not true. There is no BT antenna because BT is a laggy technology (just google bluetooth latency). Thet is why Sony created the low latency Link protocol, to keep the lag low.

It may just be a heavily modded ps vita 2000 chipset locked to remote play . The symbols and font they use in the settings is ripped straight from vita also would explain the airplane mode vita had airplane mode but had Bluetooth as well. My theory is when they killed the vita and took away remote play with ps5 from vita they started working on portal and was there covid pet project . Someone needs to do a tear down and find the mother board

It has to be either on or in rest mode. The portal will not wake it up if it’s turned off.

Not great, but Not bad if you own a ps5 and a bunch of games installed.
