The DLC cutscenes are so well-written. Their rivalries make perfect sense. It makes me wish this game would have had a full-fledged story mode like Mortal Kombat or Injustice: Gods Among Us instead of the generic Street Fighter arcade mode.

wh3nderson95 They probably were rushed. The game was delayed a month before release, and the studio probably rushed production to meet the revised deadline. The DLC characters didn't have a set deadline, so it gave them more time to flesh out their stories. That's why their rivalries are so well-written while the launch roster has reasonings like a dispute over ice cream (Kratos/Sweet Tooth) or a cyborg who's too stubborn to help out a guy trying to save his city (Raiden/Cole).

***** I do think that way as well. For the game itself, I thought it was a wonderful idea. The roster wasn't too much to be desired but it still had a some potential on the rivalries. My personal favorite is Colonel Radec versus Sir Daniel. (The Fallen Soldiers.) I thought it could be awesome if Dan assumed that Radec was some sort of enforcer for the evil wizard. Or how Radec thought that Dan being undead would be an invaluable skill for the Helghast or something along those lines.

One thing I love about all these rival interactions is that the developers really took the time to understand which versus pairings actually make sense. And they make sense due to either how similar or complementary they are. I'll give my 2 favorite examples; 1. Cole MacGrath VS Raiden: Compatibility match. They're both very similar in terms of power (electricity). Only difference is one prefers to work with a committee while the other wants to handle things alone. They would've been compatible if they worked together, though. 2. Emmett Graves VS Kat: Complementary match. They're both very much different in terms of demeanor and skills. The only similarity is they are both infused with the same kind of power which, if uncontrolled could turn them into monsters. The ultimate difference is, one prefers to "keep his feet on the ground", while the other has no problem with her head in the clouds...or the stars.

I wish the story mode was better. I would love to see more interactions with these characters.

The creators of the game made sure that each rival fight would fit with each character having similarties to each other sort of like how Death Battle would do there match ups in away only not limited to actual power levels (so you would get a god vs. mortal fight here)

Isaac is so fucking cool standing up to Zeus in both of their rival cutscenes. Especially when he catches Zeus’s lightning and when he tells Zeus straight up if he stands in his way he’ll put an end to it right now.

Zeus and issac is like Thor vs iron man haha awesome

*Rivalry Connections - PART 1 of 2 (credits to the people at the Playstation All-Stars Wiki)* *0:00**/**0:39** Kratos vs. Sweet Tooth:* both God of War and Twisted Metal were created by David Jaffe, and both Kratos and Sweet Tooth were even created by him. In addition, Kratos and Sweet Tooth are both known for their extreme brutality, and their games are infamous for the amount of violence in them. Both have also sacrificed allies for their own goals, with Sweet Tooth murdering his own gunman to make an explosion that would remove armor from a monster truck, and Kratos using a young woman that was accompanying him to open a door at the cost of her own life. Authority figures have also found ways to betray them. For instance, Kratos has been betrayed by the majority of the Greek Pantheon and the Titans, usually during the Second Great War (a.k.a Second Titanomachy), while Calypso backstabbed Sweet Tooth by turning his own wish against him (Sweet Tooth's wish was to have another chance to kill his daughter, the only person to escape him and live), sealing him inside his daughter's grave, and leaving him there to die. Also, Sweet Tooth and Kratos both killed members of their families, Ares tricking Kratos into doing it, as he consider it a sign of weakness, while Sweet Tooth killed them after carving his clown mask. Also, both die in their own game. Kratos killing himself in God of War 3 and Sweet Tooth being killed by his own wish in Twisted Metal 2012. Both also killed the highest authority: Kratos killing Zeus and Sweet Tooth killing Calypso in Twisted Metal Black. Both have caused the death of innocents and incredible destruction, with Kratos doing so either to get to his goal faster or not thinking about the consequences of his actions, while Sweet Tooth does so out of pleasure and amusement. Sweet Tooth was one of the PlayStation's first unofficial mascots and Kratos has recently become a character nearly synonymous with the PlayStation. Kratos's blades appear in Twisted Metal (2012) in the Dollface's ending and in Mr. Grimm's mid-story. Ed Boon said that he though about putting Sweet Tooth as a playable fighter in Mortal Kombat (2011) but Kratos was chosen instead. *1:28**/**10:15** Fat Princess vs. Evil Cole MacGrath:* gameplay-wise, both inFamous and Fat Princess rely heavily on duality with the colors red and blue representing different sides. In Fat Princess, you can choose either the Red Kingdom or the Blue Kingdom, and in inFamous, Cole can become either Good Cole, who is represented by the color blue, or Evil Cole, who is represented by the color red. Both also have a theme of greed, with Evil Cole being power hungry and Fat Princess always being hungry and demanding for cake. Also, Nathan Drake and Sly Cooper both come from famous lineages; Sly Cooper coming from a long line of master thieves, and Nathan Drake claiming to being descended from the famous explorer, Sir Francis Drake. Also, Nathan Drake and Sly Cooper are both thieves: Sly's entire family has been infamous for their thieving skills, and Drake grew up as a thieving orphan before being found by Victor Sullivan, while Sly grew up in an orphanage where he met Murray and Bentley. Another interesting fact is that both Sly and Drake say "five finger discount" when picking up items or killing opponents, again referencing their thieving backgrounds. Nice fun facts about those well thought rivalries. I might add that Sweet Tooth also manage to kill Calypso in Twisted Metal : Head On where Sweet Tooth made a wish that fucks over Calyspo so bad it kills him and Sweet Tooth takes over his Empire.

@@Minious1020 I see that rivalry like this: both are the result of experimentation or freak accidents. Both have a affinity for electricity, be it literally or figuratively. Cole assumes that Raiden is a Conduit, since he looks like he has super powers. Both games they come from are faced paced action games. That's all I can think off. The games they feature in also came out on the ps3, so maybe that counts.

The combat is occasionally complicated. But it’s story and cutscenes are all worth it. You literally fight PlayStation’s first scrapped mascot, while having several crossovers in a situation. It’s something Nintendo didn’t do, but also for a good reason.

I always saw it has old vs new and how isaac's people have basically surpass gods with all their advancements which would be considered a insult to zeus which for him is "no way a mortal can be better than a god" In other words its a god vs a human that can surpass a god.

Let's just not mention the fact that Sweet Tooth is a serial killer who murdered his family for no reason (at least that i know) and his motivation in the story of Twisted Metal is to find his daughter and kill her for escaping.

The best rival set up has to be emmet and kat, that dialogue is so well written, and their stories are so counter to each other it is fucking brilliant.

*Rivalry Connections - PART 2 of 2 (credits to the people at the Playstation All-Stars Wiki)* *5:06**/**5:49** Heihachi Mishima vs. Toro Inoue:* both Toro and Kuro were exclusive guest fighters in Street Fighter X Tekken, a crossover that Heihachi also appeared in. Heihachi also originates from a fighting game franchise (Tekken), and Toro's moveset consist of elements from other fighting games (i.e. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and even Tekken itself). Both also have something to do with adopting animals. While Heihachi adopted both Kumas, Toro was adopted by a sushi store owner. Both the rivals can also only speak a certain language since Heihachi usually speaks Japanese while Toro and Kuro usually talk like normal cats (computer programs in the beginning of the rival scene). Both of them also seem to be very famous in Japan. They also are related to cats: Toro is a cat, and the back of Heihachi's gi has a tiger head. *6:25**/**7:27** Jak and Daxter vs. Rachet and Clank:* Both the Jak and Daxter franchise and Ratchet & Clank franchise have had cameos in each other's games mainly because of the close partnership shared between its developers, Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games, the creators of PlayStation's iconic games: Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. Jak and Ratchet have also been considered the mascots of their generation, and have actually met each other in PlayStation Move Heroes, where they bickered amongst themselves, but eventually became allies. Jak and Daxter and Ratchet & Clank are duos that involve one character for main gameplay (Jak and Ratchet) and one character for support/help (Daxter and Clank). *6:55**/**10:49** Cole MacGrath vs. Raiden:* Cole MacGrath and Raiden have electricity-themed names; "Coal" is burned to produce electricity, while "Rai" and "Den" are the Japanese words for "Thunder" and "Electricity", respectively. They both are from games that focus on fast, hack n' slash gameplay. Nariko and Dante have both faced persecution, with Nariko being rejected by her people, and Dante being wanted by the human authorities. Additionally, both use a sword with divine origins. *12:40**/**13:27** Emmett Graves vs. Kat:* both Kat and Emmett Graves fight extraterrestrial lifeforms, but in different ways. Kat flies herself by altering her gravity field while Emmett uses his jet. They also both debuted in 2012 and have yet to appear in more than one game. The two also somehow use power from the enemy: Kat uses Dusty's gravitational powers, which is derived from the Nevi, and Emmett is infected by Rift Energy, which creates the enemies of the Starhawk. Said cosmic forces power their games' main enemies. *14:25**/**15:24** Issac Clarke vs. Zeus:* similar to that of Kratos and Sweet Tooth's connection as rivals, both Zeus and Isaac come from games known for being incredibly bloody and violent (God of War and Dead Space). Ironically, Zeus is the king of the gods who was defeated and killed by his son, Kratos, while Isaac Clarke has taken down the leader of an alien horde. Zeus is a deity with a desire for absolute control, while Isaac has had problems with both religion (Unitology) and authority figures (EarthGov). Both rely heavily on electricity in some form or another to defeat their enemies, with Zeus using many lightning-related attacks and Isaac using advanced electronic devices. Also, note that Zeus is a god who hails from a mythological setting while Isaac is a regular human from a futuristic setting. Also, Isaac must constantly deal with the Church of Unitology in Dead Space, which worship's The Great Marker which is like a god to them whilst Zeus is a god. Not to mention that both Isaac and Zeus lose their minds, Zeus as a result of Pandora's box, and Isaac as a result of contact with The Marker. Also, both character's final Level 3 transports enemies to another battlefield; for Zeus, it's the Summit of Sacrifice while for Isaac, it's the Sovereign Colonies ship graveyard/minefield outside of Tau Volantis.

Why is the rivalry between Isaac and Zeus actually kinda brilliant?

Headcanon: Graves and Kat reached an understanding after whoever won their fight. They both realize each other's good intentions in the end.

Heihachi's voice actor was also voiced Old Joseph Joestar. But he already passed away years ago.

"Well that escalated quickly" Story Mode

I understand why Emmett is the way he is, but he's too paranoid and hostile toward Kat, either assuming she's power hungry in his cutscene or assuming she's a monster in her cutscene. At least Kat admits her mistake about thinking Emmett's a monster in her cutscene.

If Microsoft were into these kind of Crossover games, Master Chief and Gordon Freeman would make perfect rivals!

I believe it’s Gunnar Wright. He voiced Isaac in Dead Space 2 & 3, i think he might have reprise his role in this game as well. I could be wrong about PSAS but i am right about DS2 & DS3.

Seeing these characters interact despite how forced it may be- just makes me hope they come back to this concept someday.

I love how by the end of it, Sweet Tooth is just like "listen, you better pick that up and pay for it!" Like he expects Kratos to have cash on him.

I Personally think Fat Princess is a Fine Rival for Evil Cole, The Both have a Hunger that is Never satisfied, Evil Cole never has enough Power, Fat Princess never has enough Cake.

This game is... well, it's not bad really. But it really didn't live to it's potential. I say Sony needs to give it another shot, because, what it did well, it did it pretty well. I really like these cutscenes. Even the characters I know little of really show of some real personality when opposed to others. Nintendo should take a page out of this game and do something similar in the next Smash Bros.

I do like a lot of these, I especially appreciate Raiden vs. Cole here especially after I've played and beaten MGR. Ratchet vs. Jak was a bit forced in both scenes, they likely were just digging for a reason to get those two to fight.

The 2nd scene of Jak and Daxter vs Ratchet and Clank makes absolutely no sense. Daxter straight up tells his friend to murder two strangers based on a non-existent micro-aggression.

Raiden vs. Cole is a cool rivalry, but I wish they had a song from MGR: Revengence playing while they fought. Could you imagine Stains of Time playing?

I miss this game so much. One of my favorite rivalry is Isaac vs Zeus. Isaac is such a badass, not afraid to fight Zeus and catches his lightning bolt with his kinesis module.

Why are all the characters so damn aggressive towards each other?

I find it funny that the whole reason why Sly is fighting Nathen is because he thinks Nathen has missing pages of the thief book

I really love those cutscenes in PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale. Because the game is fun and enjoyable
