A little tip for anyone with the same problem. Had the same problem. If you have smart TV with android software, you should restart the TV via android settings not via the remote control on off. Had green screen,the sound was there but the screen was green. Tested all the tips I came across and solution was to restart android software.Hope it helps

You might want to open that door when you play, it needs better air circulation. It won't fix the crash issue, but will prevent overheating.

My console used to do that while cold, less then 5 min playng (never put it on rest mode either), If he heats (+10 min of playng) it wont do it... just sent it to sony, a few days ago. But yeah, thats way too small to leave a console on it.

I have exactly the same problem. It doesn't happen always, but pretty consistently. I hope Sony is aware of the problem and will fix it soon with a firmware update.

@@snipekilldead For sure it's a hardware issue, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it can't be fixed with a firmware update. The poster of this video made an extensive post on Reddit from which we can understand that this problem was way bigger before the last ps5 updates.. for example it involved overnight rest bug and other malfunctions. Now almost everything is solved, "almost" in the sense the only this "enter rest mode bug" still remains an issue. So for me it's reasonable to hope that also this last bug will be addressed. Anyway if it will not be fixed, I'll ask for a repair when the warranty will be about to expire.

Yep just had this bug happen again first time since May of this year... To be honest I only put it in rest mode when I want to charge my controller which I shouldn't be doing I can just plug it into the wall I don't think this problem will ever be fixed most likely hardware issue that's what happens when you're in early adopter...

Today, 20/09/2022, i have the same problem , but its worst! Last week, after the update of september, in the rest mode it was usual to happen, but today, after 1 minute of turning on my PS5, the green screen appears and the ps5 die. I coudnt play all the day because of it!!! Its unbelievable that the year is ending and this problem is still working. The big problem for me is that im from brazil, and i bought my ps5 in a trip from Canada, so my warranty dosent works here in Brazil, maybe i´m f#cked.

Same issue here since launch. It's definitely a result of putting the system in rest mode in the middle of a game, though it doesn't always happen which makes it hard to pin down the specifics of what causes it. For a while I was just leaving the system on letting it naturally entering rest mode after inactivity, but I still got a green screen eventually doing it that way. I've now just gotten into the habit of closing out the game completely before going to rest mode which is really annoying.

No its definitely not result of putting it into rest mode…mine crashing right after I turn it on, just being in the menus for 2 minutes and boom. In 5 minutes two green screen crashes right after logging in my account. I have completely disabled rest mode btw.

I've had issues with green screen crashes when playing certain games - especially games where I use the disc drive. Maybe faulty software can be the cause as well.

Just an update for everyone. After exhaustively trying many things to prevent this problem from happening, the solution was to send it in to Sony for a warranty repair. I believe they replaced the motherboard to fix it.

@@manageradventures it's not hardware because my ps5 plays ps5 games perfectly. My ps5 randomly turns off whilst playing ps4 games and i have rest mode turned off so god knows what it is. If it was hardware then ps5 games would crash aswell but mine only turns off playing ps4 games. It stopped doing it after a software update a few months back but the latest software update has caused my ps5 to turn off whilst playing ps4 games. Sony need to sort this as its gotten a lot worse since the last software update

I get this screen while playing games with rest mode off. Had the console less than an hour. Installed 2 diff discs. Tried safe mode and repairing. Nothing worked. Even tried turning down graphics. Seemed it lasted longer as in 10 mins. I began the repair process but man was so excited to play today. I just hope they actually fix it or give me a new one that doesn’t sound like a garbage disposal

Hello friend. How long does it take to get the PS5 back from repairs? Also did you have to pay for shipping? My kid was playing Astro playroom and I heard a static noise like RRRRRRRRRRR when I came to see what was going on the screen was all green and the system was unresponsive I had to unplug it but maybe pressing the button would have worked. The system went black screen a couple times total for like 3 seconds than goes back to normal while playing Its super rare Kinda like when you first turn the game on and the hdr output is switched or something like that.

I think for some people it has been resolved, but it's worth testing to see if your system has a problem or not. Most people have no problem at all.

do you hold your ps5 in a oven, behind glass, how hot air is supposed to circulate?

I get this problem once in a while. It is ridiculous that this issue has not been fixed yet. When this happens during a game that cannot be saved anytime, it causes a lot of progress loss. How is everybody dealing with this? Are you contacting Sony and requesting a fix? Is it worth going through the process?

I dealt with it for a full year and then used the warranty right before it ran out. It was a hassle but it was worth it. I've had several people now tell me that they were successful getting it fixed by Sony. Some people had to send it in two or three times before getting it resolved. It's worth it in my opinion. It has been completely solved on my system and I can use rest mode as much as I want without issue now.

I was hoping there would be a fix. It doesn't happen all the time for me but it does happen exclusively to ps5 games from my experience(ps4 games have no crash) Unfortunately, I can't send it back because my warranty ended in November and I don't want to pay either so I'll just have to be careful with how I do rest mode. It looks like it only crashes when I play long periods of time with a ps5 game after putting on rest mode.

@@camaros193 Yes I returned it. At the time I bought , it was when supply was very scarce. I returned it to Amazon but had problems getting a replacement from them. I still returned it and eventually got a new one on a separate order from Playstation directly. I'm glad I returned it. no problems with the 2nd console so far. good luck mate!

I just got a brand new one today. Set it all up and was playing the included game (the one that demonstrates the controller) and this happened in the middle of it. Green screen with high pitched whine for a few seconds then off. Not even a rest mode problem. Ever since then it goes to green screen within a few seconds after boot up. Tried all the "safe mode" options. No luck. Looks like I'll have to send it in for repair.

I got the green screen and I would turn off and on my system and kept getting the green screen so I unplugged it and got a hold of Sony for a repair. But when they sent me my box, I plugged it in to test it, and now it’s fine… is it?

Just happened to me today, called Sony and told me I had to pay 200 dollars for replacement out of warranty and no work around for it.

I was playing the crew 2 and wanted to change songs on Spotify, the moment I pressed the ps button from the game to have the menu pop up, the screen became green and auto tuned off. Then when I restarted it said that the repair was finished and that if I unplug the ps5 that I might lose data. What’s that about?

Just happened to me within a month of having the system. Ironically it happened a day after installing the Samsung 980 so of course I figured it was related to that but thankfully my issue was fixed by unplugging the hdmi cable

Had this today first for the first time thought it may have been the latest update but seems a lot of people had it for awhile

I just got my ps5 as a Christmas gift. After I was done setting up my account etc etc few minutes(not even ten minutes later) there was a annoying sound then the green went green. This is a new PlayStation. Haven’t even played a game or been able to down load my games.

Happens me also, definitely to do with rest mode. When I turn ps5 back on its green screen.. The easiest thing to do is just to plug the hdmi out of the console and back in, the. The screen returns to normal. Works for me.

For me the screen is green but you can see the ps5 working fine on the TV. For most people I think the issue is that the screen just turns green then crashes

ive had this issue with mine as well, pretty sure the reason why my playstation is DEAD is because of Rest Mode. PSA DO NOT USE REST MODE, unless you want to deal with not having a playstation for over a month

I can see my screen but it's like a green overlay over it and can't get rid of it 😪

Mine gets distorted sound before the green screen and crashes. It does this only on 1 game I play and no others. And it does it every single time I play within the first 1-20 minutes. After the initial first crash per session it never does it a second time. The ps5 is well ventilated and I never use or used rest mode. This has happened since day 1 when I bought it. It's been a year now since I bought the ps5. I have not been able to play 1 single time without this exact thing happening. 1 game, 1 crash per session. Other than this it runs perfectly with all other games/apps that I have played.

So how do you fix it

Damn, mine just did this. It was in rest mode, but I didn’t have a game going. I had a movie still in the disc drive though. It’s been doing so good for the couple months I’ve had it. I hope it’s not faulty.

No, it won't be. At least not more faulty than most of the other ps5 out there. It happens to me when i have my ps5 like the 6 time in a row in rest mode (without shutting it down once in between). Just dont use restmode to often in a row and you wont have a problem

Guys help! Is there anyway to replicate this? Im at the point where it happens very rarely and the guys at sony support said that if they dont replicate it they will send the console back as it is. I had the same problem as soon as I got my PS5 in Oct 21, happened intermittently but I just thought it was a software problem but got worse the more I played so I sent it in for repair and it turns out it was a faulty internal SSD out of the box. I tried every setting, cooling fans, hard resets, you name it I tried it to try and solve it as I didn't want to send it off. Sent it off and they replaced/repaired the SSD and it's been perfect since so I believe if you have this issue and want it sorted you'll have to bite the bullet and get it repaired. F.Y.I I never once put it in rest mode so I don't believe that's the cause but rather a symptom of a faulty SSD.

Only happens when I switch my TV channel to KZread app when l go back to the PS5 channel sometime its green

Mine just did this too with sims 4. And it’s not the first time it’s happened it also happened to my old ps5 to the point where it would shut itself off every 30 to a hour

Could the reason be related to the external HDD?

I just got a new ps5 from warranty I sent my old one in my old one was 2 months old why would they ship me a broken ps5?

This has happened to my just now for the 1st time, but I wasn't trying to put it into rest mode, i was playing the crew 2, I was navigating the menu in the game and then the screen froze and a green screen appeared and shut the console down.

Had this for the first time yesterday. It happened with Genshin. Only happens with Genshin (so far) have plenty of warranty left so I'll see how it goes. But Seems to be related to that game alone for me, hopefully it's just software related to that (and maybe a couple other) games that were known culprits like Spider-Man and BLOPS.

They didn't share what the problem was. They just replaced the motherboard and sent it back to me. The case and shell of the PS5 was the same (I marked it, and it had the same serial number) but the mac address changed. Also, there was a new sticker in the SSD slot.

Mine has issues when I play games I got from console sharing so I can anyone help me with whats the problem?

It happened to me when I left Assassin's Creed Valhalla game paused (menu was opened) for 20 minutes (before system goes to rest mode)

@@WilG082 Glad to see its all sorted. I beleive I have found a fix for mine. I have moved it out of the cabinet that it was in and placed it in an open completely exposed place with perfect ventelation. It has not crashed once since moving it. I think it must be an issue or bug with thermals or thermal detection on the motherboard in a confined place causing the mobo to issue a kill signal to the PS5, possibly due to the fans not being able to cool the PS5 while in rest mode? This might explain why shutting down a PS4 game never caused an issue (because the PS5 had less demanding work to do running a PS4 game) and why heavy and demanding PS5 games would almost always trigger a crash - due to the higher temps of the console when running PS5 games. I had tried everythign to fix my issue and was ready to send it for repair, but was quoted £240 for an out of waranty repair so decided to move it out of the cabinet and all is good so far. It's been around 2 weeks with heavy PS5 games (FF7 Remake and Deathloop) for 6+ hour gaming sessions at a time. I will try to make a post in the PS Reddit, see if this can help anyone else out. I will put a link to this video for reference

So had this issue last night.. 1. Unplugged tv 2. Cleaned out my ps5(just incase) 3. Tried a new hdmi cord 4. Was going to try safe mode but 5. It turned on an repaired an works

Turn off HDR and you’re good to go

I think Horizon may have a specific problem that is not hardware related. I've seen a few reports from people that have no problems otherwise and only horizon can't be suspended.

For me, yes, it did. But sometimes people with really broken systems have it happen in the middle of playing

@@trashc4nn Yes, the fix is to do a warranty repair with Sony. They replace the motherboard to fix it unfortunately, so its not an easy fix.

I’ve sent mine in twice and they’ve failed to fix it both times. The second time, they didn’t even try to fix it. They did a half-assed “test,” decided there was no problem and sent it back. I’m absolutely livid that I have to send it back a third time.

Same problem help !

All i did was reset my tv and it worked

guys please help me when ever i go into fortnite it gives me a green screen but all the other games are working please help!!

I just got my play station yesterday been using rest mode since, played for 3 hours first night downloaded gta, spider miles, bf 2042, installed 3 discs finished 2 games no issues
