What does your Playnite look like?

I've been using playnite for about 5 months now on my main pc and it's a game changer especially since i do alot of emulation everything being in one place is great and the customization is endless

Wow!, this looks beautiful on the Rog Ally screen . I told myself i wasn't gonna use emulators on the Ally as i've already have Emudeck setup on my Steam Deck but after seeing the look of emulators on Playnite i've changed my mind. Already have Playnite setup using your guide but now i'm gonna get Emudeck also . Thanks, great job.

Great video and very thorough. I am stumped though. For some reason the ROG Ally controller won't work for me in full screen mode. I have verified it is enabled and in controller mode. if I connect an external controller to it it works fine. But the build in controller will not do anything. I can bring up the command center and use the controller in that side menu. Just not in Playnite.

Try adding playnite as a game profile and choosing the gamepad template, or be in gamepad mode before opening playnite

I think I figured it out. had to go into the settings->Input and uncheck "primary controller Only'. I did not have a second controller hooked up when I first started it so I'm not sure if the build in controller things its a secondary or not.

Can you access the game stores to buy new games while still within playnite? Also is there an option to boot right into playnite once the device boots up?

You can't, it'll just take you to the store page in whatever launcher. And yes, I show that in the video.

Hi Joey, great vid and amazing tutorial. One hiccup tho, after i've done all the things in the video the Playnite.fullscreen app is not showing on my Armoy crate! Only the desktop one. And that is leading me to not being able to configure the gamepad mode for the fullscreen app. My buttons are not working properly, when i press A it launches the game directly. I can't show details when i press X, and the RB button doesn't do any thing. Any advice?

Just add the fullscreen exe in the Playnite folder to armoury crate and you can configure that as needed.

My playnite is kind of laggy when in fullscreen mode. Any tips to make experience smoother?

do you have to load each game separately into Playnite?

I can't seem to get the PSP filter tag to appear properly in the jhero theme

Hey, Is there a workaround where the m1 key for alt+f4 can work in 'auto mode' because for me it doesnt, therefore you have to manually change to gamepad mode in pop up menu for this to work? Then when you open playnite desktop or any other desktop mode you will still be in gamepad mode, which is a bit of an inconvience as you have to constantly change modes, hope this makes sense..

Check my gamepad profiles video, you need to set up a gamepad template, then add the hotkeys and do that for every game, you stay in Auto mode forever. I have never switched out of it.

What theme are You using for fullscreen mode ? I have tried all of the themes (that comes available to download on playnite) and any of them shows Game info as yours on 25:03 on fullscreen mode only desktop mode.

I'm searching for a day 1 set up guide on the ROG Ally. The one Joey made for the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, was well Pro. Did he make one like that video for the Ally? I can't find it.

The oled switch screen protector will work for the screen. It doesn’t cover the entire bezel, but it will get the job done until DBrand ships.

i don’t know what wrong with my playnite i cannot get description of games to show on big picture mode. Can you please help me?

The only issue I have is when I play a steam game and close it out, steamdecks OS overlaps Playnite every time so I have to move to desktop to touch playnite again.. Any solutions?

You just use armoury crate for creating your profiles as normal like I showed. It doesn't matter that the games launch from Playnite.

great for getting xbox games in your library but id rather have the emulators all done in emulation station.

How do I add a picture to a game if it doesn't have a picture?

So im new to pc gaming..i just got the ally..whats the best emulator and no proms i can download!... i aint looking too change armory crate or anything. Just want a nice emulator on my SD were i can olay some old ps3 and down games...especially ncaa football14. I just want a nice smooth emulator??

Something went way wrong. Are you launching via EmulationStation with steam open and gamepad mode on? Jump into the Emudeck discord, see if they can get you sorted.

How did you add the Playnite full screen app to amour crate ?. I tried ton add it from the file manager through amoury crate but it won't allow me to .

You can set that setting as import not installed games that I showed in the very beginning yep.

It should work though, all retrobat and emudeck do is setup emulators. So just point Playnite to the emulator folder retrobat created.

Not sure if anyone else has this problem but when launching any game from playnite I keep getting the notifications “you are currently using x mode” which puts my controller inputs to a dead halt. Uninstalled armourcrate and that actually solved my issue until I redownloaded it again. Any way around this? I have my controller mode to gamepad.

Add your exes, including playnite, into armoury crate as game profiles and choose templates for them

That's weird. And Playnite would be installed where you set it, if you followed me, just in the C drive root. Or can search for it.

Launchbox and Playnite are Frontends yes, Emudeck configures your emulators and has a frontend. Different products.

Emudeck for emulator setup with Playnite as the frontend is my favorite currently, exact setup in the video.

Hi im wondering if its just me but when i play preinstalled games from steam unlocked or steam rip etc the game doesn't recognise my gamepad. I have to manually set up the buttons in armoury crate and map for pc games. When i play gamepass or emulators they recognise the gamepad with no issues. Have you experienced similar issue? Not sure if i accidentally changed a setting but it seems weird that only those games dont recognise a gamepad is connected. Any help would be really appreciated

@@maarkryaan I’m pretty sure it’s a me problem. I had the same issue when I tried my laptop previously… so I’m guessing I have some setting wrong somewhere. Have a newborn + a 4 year old so I haven’t had time to tinker to figure out the problem.

I had no idea what Steam RIP or Steam Unlocked was, but I can say that I've tested games not from official sources and the buttons just work. Just be in gamepad mode. I haven't done anything aside from that.

Yep, Syncthing, Google Drive, other services. Or if you use EmuDeck on both, use their built in tool.

This is basically the same but without a lot of the bells and whistles. Big box looks much better especially if paired with emumovies and will show themes and trailers for each game.

How does this compare to Launchbox?

PlayNite is more customizable and is better at being an all in one IMO. launchbox+BigBox is good for emulation but it doesn’t feel as good for PC gaming for other apps and it’s not free. That said, PlayNite feels less polished IMO. Overall, I liked Big Box better. But PlayNite is a better all in one IMO. I just ended up going back to Steam Big Picture mode + CSS Loader

Thanks for the great video! I followed this one and the emudeck one before it and my Rog Ally is way awesomer now. A PSA: The way the emulator scanners are setup, emudeck cloud saving is not being triggered when opening games. The scans need to be manually setup instead of using the emulator templates, and the executable path should point to the .bat files that emudeck uses to open the emulators (take a look at the shortcuts added to steam to find the location of those files)

What stand is that for the ally?

I ended up just going to Steam Big Picture Mode. It is not perfect especially if you use CSS Loader to customize it (It can take a couple seconds for the theme changes to show up when booting up). When it is better UI overall IMO.

Two different things. Emudeck sets up emulators for you, Playnite is a frontend to display games and launch them. Can combine the two. Emudeck has a frontend with emulationstation, but this would replace that.

I don't know... Seems better to use Emulation Station and the Asus front end for PC games. This actually seems more confusing and convoluted than that. Added: Since ES is a stupid monthly subscription, Retrobat seems the best option.

I would like to remind everyone that you absolutely need to keep the armory crate app for critical updates that absolutely affect the performance of your ally, it sucks for those who don’t like it but you need to keep it. Also really think about what’s in it for the “dev’s” to make a “free” app ? Oh wait probably because they are data mining you for profits just like facebook does, you just became a product for them to sell.

Playnite is pointless for PS1 emulation when we have Duckstation - plus it's own library.

Playnite sucks. It doesn’t always load up games from epic and battle net.

I haven't seen that issue personally - EA is the one that gives me trouble as it never stays logged in.
