한 줄기의 비에도 여름은 그 세를 넓혀간다. 세상을 모두 먹먹하게 만들고 말겠다는 다짐을 씩씩하게 실천하며 습의 계절은 대기를 점령한지 오래다. 점령군이 주둔하면 원주민의 삶은 노예로 전락할 뿐. 그저 주린 배를 채울 수만 있으면, 이 먹먹한 물빛으로부터 잠시라도 벗어날 수 있으면 무엇이든 하겠다는 예속의 자세로 계절을 버텼다. 하지만 내 노예의 길과는 별개로 계절은 초록을 키워갔다. 계속 커지는 풍선을 보며 신난 아이처럼 나무의 초록은 흥분해서 계속 초록을 불렀다. 풍선은 불다 불다 터지는 게 제 업이라면, 녹은 흑이 될 때까지가 그 끝이다. 짙어지고 짙어지다 끝내 어둠이 되어버린 그 암녹의 밑은 한치의 볕도 허락되지 않아 그 어떤 것도 살아남을 수 없었다. 살고픈 생명의 본능을 아는지 모르는지, 모든 것을 잡아먹는 어둠이라는 결승점을 향해 계절은 무심하게 자랐다. 그 암흑에 행여나 잡아먹힐까 자세를 낮춘 굴종의 모양으로 난 힘겹게 여름을 버텨낸 것이다.
