It sounds great but $3,400 for a head is pretty steep without a cabinet or it even being hand-wired. I guess they just want us all deep in debt. 😉 Great post, Darrell.

That doesn't sound unreasonable with the post-COVID pricing of everything being what it is these days. I'm not saying I like it, but this feels inline to me. ......I miss 90s pricing. :)

@@BenBreardYou mean the post-COVID price gouging? Because at this point that's exactly what it is. It's an excuse, not reality. Everybody is doubling or tripling prices, because people like you swallow the nonsense hook, line and sinker. Don't get me wrong, some are caught in the middle, with certain monopolies and conglomerates extorting everybody else because they can. But the root cause of the current price trends has ZERO to do with COVID. It's uncontrolled greed, pure and simple.

Great video Darrell! I do not own the 120 but I own the Revv Dynamis 7-40 which is a 2 channels 40 watter. The Revv cleans are really something else. The Dynamis' clean channel is an incredible pedal platform too and it's Red channel is not exactlyl ike any on the Generator but it's thick saturated distortion at higer gan and awesome crunch at lower gains. I do also own two Revv pedals in the G2 which emulates channel two (green) of this amp here and the G4 which emulates channel 4 (red). The G4 is espcially thick and saturated on red aggression. You had yours sounding a little thin to my taste here. My favorite dirty amp in the Helix is the Revv Gen Red so I have indirect experience with it. At lower gain level and aggression blue it does a very good job doing an 800 like thing but with a lot more thickness and you still have more than half the gain on tap. The gem on this amp seems to be the green channel though (as is the G2 pedal). I love the mid gain crunchy tones it gives me. I'll eventually get the full Genrator but my Dynamis with the pedals is giving me the best tones I ever had! Congrats on getting this great amp!

For home use with bigger amps, I recommend a volume pedal. A good volume pedal will keep your tone the same, but at lower volumes. Now that I found out how much volume can be reduced with one, I am no longer scared of how loud a bigger tube amp will be in my house. I will use a 2x12 Cab which is all you need for only small and medium sized gigs and if you are on a mic at bigger shows than you will be able to get enough volume anyways plus if you are too loud to fit well in a live mix than a volume pedal can help you not sound too loud. As to 4x12s sounding fuller, in a band mix I don't want too much bass anyways.

Hi.. I am from India and am interested to learn guitar but electric only as I feel the acoustic one is very big and it is a turn off for me. Now I am really confused on which electric guitar to buy as there are lot of things to consider. The points that I would like to consider is: 1. I don't have quite long fingers. So the neck width and it's shape needs to be considered. 2. Since I don't know to play guitar the ergonomics, playability will matter as if it doesn't feel good to play then I would tend to loose interest and stop to learn. 3. Budget. Based on the below would you be able to guide me with the guitar, amp, processor/pedal that would be idle for a beginner like me with so much of constraints.

Start out with a new or slightly played before Fender Squire. And try either a Stratocaster or Telecaster as those are the 2 models they are most know for, but but as always play what feels good to YOU my friend. Because at the end of the day it's only going to be having to actually put your time, patience and skin(lol) down on that thing. As for the amplifier, I'd say go for a decent ValveState or tube amp, or go for something like a Fender Mustang GTX many, many great preloaded tones/setting already on there plus you can dial in tones that are 100% your own as well. Good luck my friend. Cheers.

Every sound is pretty much modern aggressive, though. Why do you want one amp for your studio, if the channels don't really sound that different, and the amp section and speaker cab per channel is the same? Why not use several small combos and/or heads and small cabs to cover different things. You really don't even need more than one speaker per cab, or you can use 4 different speakers in a 4x12 if you don't mind the amp reactance always being the same. You could even just mount speakers on a large board with individual inputs and tie some fiber and/or shredded memory foam pillows on the edges against a wall, and open however many you want for the bass response and room sound. You can just post EQ the bass and mids to mimic a 2x or 4 x cab. The one-size-fits-all amp approach means everything is compromised.

Yo Darrel great vid.....it does sound very good, but you would have to say that for the price...it bloody well should! You cannot call it affordable, can you mate? Personally, I have gone through varous tupes of amps... It is very subjective but I find that all thoae nobs and all those options...become your anemy, costant fiddle and tweaking. Just like multi effects pedalboards...now on the shelf, they look cool! I find that if you wanna play the guitar - gear fetishism and special requirements are different matter - the best is a simple, good amp, no effects, besides some modulation, maybe in the loop....and bloody play! Listen and learn how to play that sound... and you develop your play, instead of constantly chasing the dragon. I am not a music pro, I play mostly at home and i am no teeanger...but I am guessing that millions are like that. We get sucked into this endless and expensive marry go round of gear and nobs....bonkers! Having said all that that amp does look and sound great but it's also pointless, a great display of possibilities and tech...that leads to a tone you'll never reach! Or end up using the same 2, very expensive, settings... In the end I got stuck with a PRS MT 15, it is not as expensive or complex as others I have and have had ..but sounds fantastic man, and does what is needed really, really well. Take it easy 🤘👽

This is basically THE amp. But at the end of the day it is just heavy as f***, right? And is it really better than the Amp1 Iridium? Naaah😊.

I get that you're using it for the channel, and why not make a video while you're at it. That kind of coin can buy a pre-CBS fender Blackface, AND a JCM800. Or buy a Kemper and a cabinet.
