Playing from 130 to 170 bpm Double Bass Drum in the most comfortable way - James Payne
Музыка
Here's a snippet taken from the "Double Bass Drum Mid Tempos Technique" lesson on my website in which we see the transition from playing a leg motion 130 bpm all the way up to 170 bpm ankle motion.

Thanks James. This makes a lot of scene the 140 - 150 bpm is the sticking points for me, that in between leg and ankle blend is tough.

Ride the lightening is at 151bpm and give me this trouble.
Problem tempos are so strange, unique to the feet. Thank you for helping us!
So many of these Finnish speed metal drummers play these 150-170 BPM songs with full leg motion. Crazy lol
Great work
thank you so much for these videos. I always struggled with double bass speed becuse i never learned to play with ankle motion. Right now it's been a few years since i don't have a drum set but i practice ankle motion on the floor all the time hoping one day i can go back to playing and actually be able to break the 200bpm barrier.

You are very welcome! And that's a great way to keep your ankles trained!!
Good, thanks
ヤバい!That's awesome. I'm motivated. I `ll stick it!
You should cover the topic of the beater height and beater weight, which I don't think you have before. In my opinion, that is the only pedal setting that really does make a noticeable difference, and thus can mess up your progress

Thats true, Heavy beater reduce the responsiveness, i had to take off the felt and shave some weight of the pedal. That way i can put max pedal height and still have good rebound.

@MarsHolst20 so is every other setting but I'm telling you Beater Height is the only apparent tweak you can make that makes such a huge difference. Also, I know many different players that give up on their pedals and get discouraged cause they mess with all the other settings and they made no change according to them. Only to find out their beater height was super long or very short.

That's a great idea! I will do a video on that and other pedal settings that in my opinion make a difference soon! Thanks for the advice!

@@JamesPayneDrums oh my goodness, I didn't see your reply. I've been a follower ever since I found one of your videos 3 years ago. Thanks to you i have been able to have a good setup until the day when I decided to tweak my pedal angle, height, and footboard height on a new direct drive pedal I had just bought. Everything was perfect and I could play with no issues whatsoever, but after messing with those I just couldn't do it anymore; besides the fact that the new pedal had a much heavier beater. I kid you not, I spent almost 7 months playing with those wrong settings that I got discouraged because I just couldn't play right, or "like before" until I decided to, in my mind, go back to that day I made those changes and lo and behold, the pedal height was super high coupled with the fact that it was a heavier beater. after fixing this I am now able to play more consistent but need to get used to the change from a chain drive to a direct drive after 7 months of playing with a messed up setup :(. So yeah, please do this so people so newbies in the topic like me don't get frustrated and get discouraged to the point of not wanting to play anymore.
thank you once again your explanations are always helpful. Is there a particular reason you played heel down? Or should it work just the same with heel up ankle motion?
How different is this for you on the dyna-sync compared to the IC? Do you find the longer footboard helps?
Good stuff. Personally I just play ankles from 130-140bpm+.
Great videos. Which pads are you using here? Thanks
great vid! it helped, nice shoes tho haha
I have problems with my left leg being stronger with my right and my right pedal is looser than my left pedal so what can I do to solve the issues of my right going faster then my left

@@Assimilator702 I've fixed that issue since then, I had to replace my right pedal since it was wearing out (there was half an inch of give)
Hello james,is it okey to use swivel technique at 160?tia

I don't think so.
I wish i could play faster than 130bpm, i had to get surgery in my left foot and had to get some tendons moved and now the ankle movement isnt as fast as the right foot but ima keep trying 😞hopefully it didnt ruin my passion for drums
I play 170 leg motion wtf

Ahah! Yes, that depends on your pedal settings and approach! If you play completely relaxed then that's working for you and it's great! If you're making a lot of effort then you might want to look into ways to make it less painful!
