“Plays too passive so their tm8 probably tries to fill that space” probably one of the best quotes I’ve heard. When I coach players in plat and diamond that is something I touch on heavily. Usually the game plan, especially in twos, SHOULD be to play around your tm8… if they are an ape then let them… if they are too passive then let them. It’s a simple idea that means so much in this game, but lower ranks gloss over because it’s not about how they play it is always about their tm8.

There's so much unspoken communication in rocket league. Playing around your teammates is good, but you can also signal things to your teammates to reclaim space and leave it. I naturally play around my teammates due to solo queue, but lower ranks don't understand what that even looks like in a lot of cases. The primary issue is that they don't understand the potential of a play. How can you give someone space if you don't know what space to give? Its a long journey, but rewarding once you figure it out.

In Diamond i’m forced to play passive every game, every game is an argument if I try to deter tm8’s from ball chasing. Once my mechanics get consistent I hope Champ isn’t filled with people that can’t rotate

​@@M4L3m0nI'm champ for the past 3 years (I don't play ranked) and yeah... I'm confused AF. These ranks don't make any sense to me anymore. From my understanding, it's like everyone is 1 to ranks above their actual ranks. Champs are diamonds, diamonds are plays, plats are golds etc... I was hanging out with GCs and SSL in unranked having fun until I stopped playing and lost so much MMR. Champs are NOT what they used to be and this video and they are the most toxic people. Might be a power trip.

To all of you stuck in the diamond to champ ranks. Play a bit of 1s don't focus on ranking up but instead try to develop consistent offense and defense, learn not to rely on your teammates on defense, and practice recoveries. I guarantee you will start to rank up. Also, try to value not getting scored on more than scoring because it becomes a lot harder to win once you are already down especially in solo queue. Edit a tip for working with teammates : If you can force the opponent off the ball for a teammate, it can lead to a set up for them with boost and a free ball in a easy to hit location. If you mix this with drive challenges, you can play a supportive role on offense and can quickly rotate back if something goes wrong. Then in theory they repeat for you and you guys take advantage of the free plays. Try to position your car in a spot where you can make it to where the teammate is trying to push the ball with boost, but can turn back and defend if he is beaten.

Agreed.. this last season has made me reevaluate my day to day training/playing focuses. Even tho I managed to get my champ rewards on the last day of the season, I’ve Decided I wouldn’t play a lot of ranked 2’s until I hit my diamond season rewards through my duels wins. Also changed my power slide from left stick to LB and I’ve already adjusted my brain to it and feel a massive improvement seemingly over night 🤓

Because you can't next level fake them, because they don't get what they supposed to do and just go for the ball. Because you play with such confidence you might not take it as serious and be less sharp and when you lock in for real it might be to late. When you play 2x better player you have something to prove to yourself.

I have no idea why bad players LOVE hitting the ball just to leave where it was, be it the roof or a wall. It's the same as getting surrounded by 20 toddlers trying to kick a ball and they just kick each other in the legs, miss the ball, kick the ball in the face of another toddler etc... And the ball never moves. And when it moves, they don't even realize it as everyone's in a mosh pit kicking nothing but each other... And I'm off in the distance just questioning life. F me...I hate ranked and extra game modes where I end up against plats and diamonds cuz I haven't ranked in 3+ years and play unranked at 2000MMR.. well I used to. I stopped playing rocket league for quite a while and my MMR went to shit, below 1800, maybe even 1500 and it's painful.

I will be playing very passive, fake a lot, rotate quick and only make passes, try to be as supportive as I can. But sometime i just start to pop off and to unlock that next level i got to ball chase lol, go fully crZy and stop being grounded just go for it all. I was C3 like 2 or 3 seasons ago now ik stuck in half C1 cuz the seasons got hella hard rn.

By the way, for people that are interested in an E swap controller. They are more on the expensive side but they are pretty phenomenal, but I would highly recommend them for FPS. The trigger lock makes it very sensitive an easier to shoot.

I'm diamond and to others out there looking to rank up learning how to speed flip has been the most helpful thing for me up to this point. Being able to win every kickoff and recover faster is a huge advantage in generally lower ranked lobbies.

Then I learned it in silver, not the best but it was aight, and it’s steadily gotten better since then. Switch Player here: I made it to Diamond 2 once (came 2nd in a tourney), but then they put out an update to the switch which put the game data out to past 30GB, which filled the SSD (needed to archive MarioKart8!), and THEN they put out another update after Christmas which made the controller input lag unusable... Beaten plenty of GCs in casuals. Embarrassingly so, many times. Imma gonna order a controller for my pc and see how we go...

I can tell you the unpredictability of plats and how easily they rage makes it extremely hard to climb out of the rank even if you play defensive and let your teammates ball chase every game turns into a 1v2. It also seems the second you go on a winning streak and almost peak diamond you get into some very strange lobbies that are hard to win in. I finally got out of plat a few months ago and it’s incredible how easy it is to play with diamond teammates and rank up comparatively

From a D3 standpoint (C2 peak) I can say this with %100 assurance, mechanically I can compete at a GC level...sometimes.. but my consistency as of today would only allow me C1 at most or on a good day. We've all peaked and made awesome plays, but you have to make those plays consistently, which is something I currently cannot do.

Striped, i love you videos so much! Recently i started taking the game seriously and started playing ones. In one day i went from diamond 1 to c1 in 1v1s. also in 2s i have been c3 before but i my teams suck so i went do to c1 (1007mmr). but i found a good teammate and i went from c1 to c3 (1354mmr) in 2 days. i think i should be gc and would love to 2v2 some.
