We always get back up. From Mainz 05 to Liverpool, we always go again As a Liverpool fan, I’m proud of everything he's helped us achieve and everything we came so close to achieving. But what isn’t spoken about enough is his getting Mainz 05 promoted after marginally (1 point and subsequently one goal away) missing out on 3rd place 2 seasons in a row! Even as a Liverpool fan, that is probably his greatest achievement and it laid the groundwork for everything that came after

I remember watching Mark Lawrenson on a Football Focus or some sort of pre game punditry and he said that if we could entice Jurgen Klopp to become Liverpool’s manager we would be set and he wasn’t wrong. I also understand why Borrusia Dortmund fans were crying as he was coming to us because I am going to cry so much once he leaves.

I don't think many have heard about gegen pressing before Klopp made it his bread & better in football though it was Rangnik who made it. Such an exciting way of playing football, whatever the demerits are I enjoyed the way Klopp took Liverpool to the top from the sidelines & I'll be with him in this liverpool's rebuild. My all time fav coach.

Gegenpressing is just German for counter-press and Ragnick did not invent that. Both Klopp and Ragnick are disciples of Arrigo Sacchi, but Klopp learned it from Wolfgang Frank, who was his manager for a period while Klopp played at Mainz. The hype around Ragnick went a bit too far, when he signed for Man U. He and Klopp actually grew at the same time in the 2nd Bundesliga, so it is not like Klopp learned it from Ragnick.

@@peterb_nonumbers Ralph Rangnik was inspired by Arrigo Sacchi but Sacchi was more of pressing coach & not counter pressing. So the God father of gegen pressing is still Rangnik & he himself will admit that it was Klopp who made it famous before which I don't think many have known about gegen pressing. Last season was the only time when liverpool didn't use gegen pressing apart from few games.

@@fan2hd277 Then who? Quote #1: "Although it’s clear that the Bundesliga brought the gegenpress to life in the modern football era, it’s true that a counter-press was adopted by teams in England way back in the 1960s. It was then implemented by a spate of Dutch sides in the Eredivisie. Both Feyenoord and Ajax, coached by Ernst Happel and Rinus Michels respectively, deployed a counter-press on occasion. Michels opted to incorporate it into his brand of Total Football, alongside the importance of positional play. The Dutch national side even utilised it to good effect at the 1974 World Cup. The gegenpress then went into hiding until the late 1980s when master tactician Arrigo Sacchi opted to integrate it into his AC Milan side in a bid to stifle sides that opted to play with an ultra-defensive low block against them. By playing in this manner, Sacchi’s men were able to play an extremely high defensive line and effectively play the game exclusively in the opponent’s half. This was the only way Milan could wear down teams that were supremely well-organised during this era of Serie A. Jurgen Klopp is then celebrated for breathing new life into the gegenpress during the formative years of his managerial career. During his first head coach role with Mainz, he began to explore the merits of the counter-press before successfully embedding it in his managerial blueprint in his first big role at Borussia Dortmund." Quote #2: "Gegenpressing is often attributed to Jurgen Klopp and the Schwarzwald native certainly applied his own particular spin to a longstanding tradition of pressing football. The concept of pressing - or "closing down", as it was known in quainter days of football - is a basic component of the game and, while Klopp has become synonymous with gegenpressing, he is actually the latest in a long line of coaches who have prioritised the skill of pressing opponents within their philosophies. His mentor at Mainz, Wolfgang Frank, was a keen proponent of the pressing game and Frank, in turn, had been heavily influenced by legendary AC Milan and Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi. Under Sacchi, the Rossoneri became the ultimate purveyors of the pressing game in the late 1980s into the 1990s, winning two European Cups and a Serie A title. The Italian coach explained that pressing is not merely about running after the opponent, but about "controlling space" and, ultimately, controlling the game in the rival team's mind. "If we let our opponents play in a way they were accustomed to, they would grow in confidence, but if we stopped them it would hurt their confidence," Sacchi said in Jonathan Wilson's Inverting the Pyramid. "That was the key: our pressing was psychological as much as physical."

@clinteastwood3603 Or more accurately, you? He's right though. FSG has done many good things but compared to the other franchises they own, Liverpool seem to be almost like an afterthought to them. Instead of helping Klopp and LFC to build on top of the champions league and premier league wins, FSG almost seem to scrimp and scrape MORE in the following years. The result being Klopp has to go through the whole 2015-17 rebuilding process all over again, meanwhile the likes of City continue to roll on forwards without a backwards glance.

Because he's more than just a great nanager, he's a grant human being. He's respected and loved by his team, which is more than can be said about a certain other coach who is not near as good as him. I recall a journalist saying that he heard it said that players would run through a brick wall for Jurgen Klopp. Like you he couldn't understand the hype. He says beside him at an awards dinner and he said by the end of the night he was ready to run through a brick wall for him. That's the measure of the man.
