"Ultimately its their team, their club. They were there long before I was there and they'll be there long after me. I'm renting a shirt there. Can I represent them and add to this amazing history of the club" What a legend. Nobody talks like that about fans. I'm not even Liverpool fan but this was the best I have ever heard of any footballer talking about fans.

Absolutely! I completely love the idea of a player "renting" the shirt from the club. In other words, he's paying for the privilege of representing those watching. What a truly amazing attitude - and says so much about why Milly was loved by fans wherever he played.

Unreal professional who would break bones and lose teeth for the team, and would walk through the wall just because the manager asks him to. A real figure for the young talents in the dressing room to look up to and learn professionalism from. Just a few words from Milner have made me realise how little I understood what was going on in the minds of our players between 2018 and 2019. Never did I think coming second with 97 points and losing a champions league final a year before, that our players could have wavered and left without going in to win League, Champions league and other cups. I’m now in total awe more than ever, of their commitment to our club. I felt bad about last season cause I knew we were seeing the last of Milner, Hendo, Fab, Mane and Origi in a time which saw us play pretty poorly after barely hanging in there end of 2021. Fresh injury free legs could have made a difference but we had tough times and bit of bad luck with injuries. Makes me re-think certain views of mine. Thank you James Milner. 🙏🏿❤️👍🏽🔥🔥

I know we all have different opinions when it comes to football, but for me he has to go down as klopps second best signing for Liverpool after salah,I remember when he made his debut for Leeds back in the day, even at 16 he was good, he has been at a few clubs but Liverpool were blessed to have him when he was at his best, massively underrated because he was all for the team and would still perform in any position for the benefit of the team,I see him play for Brighton last week and he is still smashing it, out of all the players who have left Liverpool he is the only 1 I want to come back, take a bow son,a role model to anyone

Milner was brought in under Brendan Rodgers. Milner wanted more game time and BR guaranteed him he could play in his preferred position (midfield). He also wanted a senior player in the squad… after Gerrard left. Obviously, it wasn’t long after, that BR left and Klopp came in.

You can see why Klopp wanted to keep him on. Milner is the ultimate pro. Such an example to the younger players, prime example when he says that footballers play for the fans; without the fans those players don't get to drive their fancy sports cars

Young players can learn a lot more from James Milner and his outstanding attitude than they can from even a Messi or a Ronaldo in my opinion. Not just how to be the best you can be as a player but the morals and basic principles you should hold as a very well paid professional footballer and what it means to the fans
