A classic match that ends with a classic triumphant exclamation! Pete Weber's a character. Love him or hate him - he's been great for the PBA!
I met Pete years back at Sproul lanes Pa. We were talking college football the whole time he was practicing. He actually asked me what was my name and thanked me for my support.
Very cool to hear his comments and get the insight on what he was thinking and feeling during this match. He has a lot more class than some people think.

@joshuab1707

Yeah of course. Plus when you're a legend in the thing you do, you're allowed to talk highly of yourself.
I'm nearly 100% positive "the kid" is the one in the black shirt. He is in the 2nd row and is sitting right behind the kid in a hat. Watch Pete after his spare shot in the 2nd frame. At 4:06 Pete says "It's called sportsmanship pal." Then around 4:10 you'll see the kid in the hat. Look at the kid sitting right behind him and when Pete says "It's called sportsmanship pal" you'll see the kid turn to his friend almost as if to say "is he talking to me?" and he is the only one not clapping. And if you STILL don't see him lmao he's easy to spot if you pause at 7:32. Look to left side of the screen. See the kid in the hat? He's sitting right behind him.
In the mind of a Legend, during the championship match of the U.S. Open when this was bowling on absolute dirt. This was absolutely the most difficult pattern the PBA used at the time. It was a brutal mental grind for these guys. To see Pete completely nut that shot in the 10th to win was amazing to see.
What a dream! I could feel the pressure of Pete's last shot! Congrats!
After all these years, to find out it was a kid he was talking to. Just perfect.
Quarantine has me watching all kinds of videos I never did before........ lol. That being said, I used to bowl on a league and this was fun to watch. And an incredibly close game. Nice work Pete.

Pete Weber is amazing. He's done such a great job adapting his game over the years. He started out as a pure cranker,, power bowler and now he's much more of a finesse guy. He's great at manipulating his hand and changing the type of rotation on the ball. He can come around the ball and hook it gutter to gutter or flatten his hand out and come up the back of the ball and go straight up the right gutter.
i would have clapped too like the kid not knowing that it was necessarily bad to leave 1 pin.
Exudes confidence - borderline arrogant but it’s all confidence and he’s earned the right to speak at that level about himself and his fellow competitors

I love how he is so into the game, feeling angry, glad and letting it show.
One of the greatest friends/family/roommates that I have ever had. Him and his wife! Total definition of "CLASS"! Don't judge him from what you see on television. He's at his place of business, so he means business on the lanes! Off lanes...one of the coolest you've ever met. Easy to approach and talk to. Just give him a few minutes after the block so he can wind down and get bowling out of his mind, and be a normal person like all of us. All pros are easy to talk to. Timing is everything.
My favorite part about the thing with the kid is that nobody in the stands or even on TV knew who he was talking to or why he was talking to them but he still says that the kid knows who he is and deserved it. I honestly and truly believe that every single kid in the stands probably thought it was them that he was yelling at. Even the announcers couldn’t figure out what the problem was.

when a little kid roots against you so you give him the super intimidating safety goggle stare down. i get you don’t want your focus disturbed but there’s 100+ people around you god forbid a kid roots for the other competitor. i felt the second hand embarrassment and uncomfortable vibe for the rest of the game. let’s be real. what if the kid was rooting for him because he hit nine pins in that kids eyes that’s a good shot probably lost a fan and possibly put the kid off of bowling you never know he could have been your biggest fan. keeping your composure after a mistake makes you look far more superior when you succeed

Weber was super somber throughout the first couple of frames. In my opinion he needed something to focus his energy on and for him to have a way to get some of his feelings out about this maybe being his fifth title and surpassing his father. He has said that everything he does he did for his dad. His family name isn't tarnished because of one moment, look at what both pete and dick have done throughout bowling's history. At this kind of event unless the person is not getting ready to throw the ball you be quiet period. He has every right to say something to the kid if he wants and that kid has to learn that he can't get away with with whatever he wants just because he's a kid.
