Note Phly, there is no confirmation outside of Gaijin's own statements. And the individual in question has provided enormous amounts of info on the CR2 before over years of time without incident. They also clearly have the kind of access to the vehicle you'd expect of a tank commander. Personally i suspect bureaucratic fuckup rather than Gaijin doing anything sus. This individual has indicated in the past that anything they post has to go past the censors at the base he serves on. Most likely either whoever Gaijin contacted hadn't received the paperwork, or the local base censors exceeded their authority in clearing it. Also UKDJ may be big in the defence world, but somthing like this would have hit national news over here. It hasn't. That should tell you the kind of response professional journalists got when they inquired.

However, he might have posted more than just the information showing the gap distance. I haven't seen what he posted so there could be more sensitive (and just more) information.

For what it's worth, I've found OPSEC Nazis are wrong most of the time when it comes to the safety and legality of open-sourced intel. But this is different and appears to be a smoking gun case. If it's confirmed he forged declassification stamps on a classified document in order to make it seem open-source (so he could use it as leverage against a Russian video game company), then he's in serious trouble for both fraud and mishandling of classified material, end of story. Even if he successfully self-redacted it to the point where no actual classified material remained, changing the stamps and knowingly releasing it in that state is still an open-and-shut criminal case.

Maybe he is a pony commander, i play DCS and all my friends are in the air force or at Boeing, and they are very reluctant to talk about anything related with their jobs, manuals, procedures or even give opinions about any system/ armament any military guy will know its illegal, and i find it more suspicious by the fact of a supposedly tank comander playing an arcade game like WT, whete the tank experience has nothing to do with the real life one

Even if it’s illegal (and I don’t say they should do this (cus of legal reasons)) isn’t it higher morale if they do leak classified info? In my mind this better helps settling wars with video games than actual combat lol. Tease me all you want but you can’t say it doesn’t help prevent wars at all. Heroes don't always wear capes, they wear prison suits.

For clarification, Gaijin not only CANT use the information from that leaked manual page, they now must deliberately AVOID using relatively similar stats in order to avoid any potential accusations of disseminating classified documents. The guy had and shared the exactly accurate info that proved the Challenger was underpowered, but that info is now completely unusable until the challenger series of tanks are retired. That's likely never happening in WT's lifetime since the Challenger 3 was just introduced to the British military.

I legit gave up on them. The APDS on a flanking tank just doesnt compete with the APHE of the main 3 nations. The only way APDS wouls be useful is if you have a lot of strong frontal armor to bounce shells and take the time to pick off crew. Else you have to flank. And at that point APHE is far better.

No, I believe I was watching a video from The Tank Museum's channel and they were talking about why they still used rifled barrels over most countries choosing smooth bore. Their HESH preforms better with the rifled barrel, BUT they also use two piece-munitions. The warhead and a backing charge, unlike the US that uses a singular casing for both the warhead and charge. So technically if ammo in the turret gets hit it wouldn't detonate(or have less to detonate) because the charges are kept in the hull or somewhere lower than the actual warheads. I'm not sure if it was in reference to the Chieftan or the Challenger series of tanks, but I explicitly remember them talking about the ammo storage being in two separate areas, and it came down to the rounds they used and their preference for a rifled barrel. Feel free to correct me, but I believe it was The Chieftan(the person not the tank) talking about it when he was doing his favorite tanks or the run down of the actual Chieftan tank - and he went on a tangent about the ammo and everything.

Phly Daddy does a thorough job of changing Baby Phly's Diaper. Phly Daddy: "I did not look at the manual!"

I believe I saw that he was attempting to get the devs to lessen the area between the bottom of the turret and the top of the hull. Basically he was saying that the turrets sits closer to the hull so the gap isnt as large as it is in game.

He had direct permission from his CO to use the heavily redacted document, just FYI. Also he's a regular supplier of information that has already been used in the game. The "leak" is quite old and he never got in trouble for it.

He was trying to get the gun mantlet armour corrected, in this particular case, because Gaijin actually think that it's just a big hollow wedge with a 200mm thick slab of steel behind it... (there were many other issues he was also tying to address, including turret rotation).

Is that the perfect picnic tonk? A table, 2 glasses and an umbrella pole on top, they even went crazy and added a turkish smoking pipe. Love it.

Although we have never read the Challenger 2 user manual, we can admit it's really a good tank!

You have to give props to someone that was so annoyed with a game developer that he violated half a dozen laws and broke national security classification just to prove that they were wrong.

restricted is like the 2nd lowest classification, so i would say this not much of a biggy, everything is normally at least restricted if this had been classified Confidential or above then you would be something. the lowest classification is unclassified and about the only thing that is sent unclassified is thing like inter forces sports scores and other stuff like that, in fact i rarely saw unclassified stuff because it was just the policy to make everything Restricted or higher to save time. in fact the fact that its marked Restricted would same to me to indicate this was classified prior to 2014 as the security classifications i think changed then to Official, secret and top secret, but dont quote me on that its been a while

I was in the War Thunder Beta test, played for a little while. The Maus was the top back then. Now when I log in and try top tier I just spawn and die. Lol I have missed a lot. Missing a huge learning curve. Edit: The Abrams armor is still classified and the exact specs are just speculations. However I work in defense and my coworker helped developed the Abrams. They shot it with 120mm sabot and heat rounds from other Abrams and they did not make it to the crew compartments. Also an Abrams survived a hit from a Hellfire when it was to be destroyed after being abandoned because it became immobilized.

I guess we should just take your word for it when u say you work in defense since this incident sortof proves that the job has lots of very passionate people when it comes to armored vehicles

The Russians absolutely have that information. The only reason they can't use it is to stop others from doing the same.

I just realized, we have actual "sekret dokuments" confirmed.

There are many classified secrets about this tank and one being the top secret material the British used in its armor. It’s incredible and so far ahead in time

i know the user name of the person who leaked the manual, the part he leaked was the armor behind the mantlet which is a pretty substantial piece of armor

Restricted is the lowest form of classified documents in the British military if anyone was interested. At least according to jingles

Apfsds can still explode because while it is a kinetic round there is explosives in the dart that allow it to shoot, war thunder released a video about this one time how there are still explosives in apds that can cause the ammo rack so it is possible.

What would happen if nations fought their wars on war thunder instead of irl? Just make the tanks as accurate as possible by leaking classified information and battle it out through a game. Better than actual people dying in my humble opinion.

@@sn4k3ak58 lol that could happen. Still, it’s a nice idea though. They could keep track of the numbers of battles won with a certain tank, and keep track of its average kill to death ratio, and pile up all these statistics to decide the chances of whether an actual war would benefit one nation over another. They could also use those bogus stats to scare each other off lol. These days there are more “soft wars” than actual wars. I prefer the “soft war” that’s fought in war thunder over other types of soft wars.

@@Born2Losenot2win thinking of how I usually play... I can already see a bunch of players annoyed because I'm destroying their top tier vehicles with a WWII german vehicle xd. Not my first time killing an Abrams with a Panther II or whatever that has that 88mm kwk, had a couple of duels with modern jets, the only ones that trully escape my skill are the F-4 phantom and Mirage III, since they can actually outrun my Me 262 C2B and Mirage III can out-turn me even if I do post stall tricks xd. but well, that's literally pushing my 262 to the very limit.

That's a good idea and perhaps a distant future. Maybe with some impartial super popular full-emersion VR game. But War Thunder? It's just laughable.

Sailors mouth? 🤣🤣🤣 My father was a career USN NCO. He served in WW2, Korea and in the USAF during Vietnam. The short version, my grandmother, my mom's mom. Told me at 13 she could only tolerate me because I was "too much like your father" I replied with " that's your fing problem NOT MINE. A couple days later, I was taken into the kitchen at our home by my parents. My father literally dressed me down like a new recruit. I have for the most part had a clean mouth, at least in the company of my parents and my now 12 year old daughter. By the way, when my parents were finished with me and I left the kitchen, I could hear them bursting out with laughter, over the whole thing.

Yeah band of brothers is such a good series. Can't find it anywhere though sadly. Would really love to rewatch it
