Playboy millionaire or saint? - The case of Florian Homm | DW Documentary

Sex, drugs & dollar bills - ex-banker Florian Homm lived a life of excess. Although the bachelor has swapped prostitutes for prayer, he remains one of the FBI's Most Wanted.
A successful career on the stock market ended with allegations of defrauding investors and fixing stock prices. Now Florian Homm claims to be a devout Catholic. He's cracked his cocaine addiction and teaches economics - of course, by the book. But he faces a 225-year jail sentence if he steps foot on US soil.
Rarely is Florian Homm seen in public without his cigar. If appearances are anything to go by, then the man is the prototype of an arch capitalist. His most successful years were those just after the turn of the millennium. Back then, he was estimated to be worth about EUR 300 million. Although he's on the FBI's most-wanted list in the US, the man who prosecutors say has conspired to defraud investors and fixed stock prices is free to roam in Germany. In interviews, the once ruthless stock speculator says he's reformed, and explains that it was greed that made him do it, saying, "Somewhere there's that primeval feeling in a true capitalist. It's a drive that says, 'I want to own everything, it will all be mine!'" Homm, who once led a life that whirled around stocks, cocaine and prostitutes, presents himself today as a devout Catholic and preaches to economics' students, "You do not have to forsake wealth, but you should not lose sight of what is good and important."

I see a lot of people saying money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it. Money may not buy happiness, but it can solve 95% of the problems that can make you unhappy.

I know someone who's in hiding after committing securities fraud, but his take was $25M and he has no friends because he can't trust or see anybody. That's a sad existence constantly looking over your shoulder. At least he's at the end of his term. All those privileges and relationships gone because of petty greed.

It's not a question of love. She sure does love him. It's obvious. It's just that she's not placing him on a paternal pedestal. Some of his attitude may appear boysh to his daughter hence her inability to call him dad. It's IMMINENTLY childish of her. She's to blame here NOT the dad. Murderers in jail still have their kids call them dad. The problem is with her NOT with her dad. Also, it would be interesting to know when she startd having this inability to call him dad ? Was it before his emprisonment or AFTER. Clearly a SPOILED kid. The MOST ungrateful kids are ALMOST ALWAYS the MOST SPOILED ones. It's a CALSSIC.

One truthful thing he said was about the Federal Reserve; if he buys 4 trillion shares of fixed income securities, it would lower the federal interest rate to 0%, that would influence the market, and it would be the biggest case of price manipulation, but if the Federal Reserve does it, it's OK. So true, and they do it all the time.

It's not about the money when they begin. It stated his father had been yearning to be in the "upper class". Class structure and social hierarchy is what turns good people bad. Perhaps it also involves self-identity and if you're like most people struggling to come to self-realization is difficult due to our environment and societal constraints, so people choose to develop this larger-than-life persona.

Ernest Hemingway is a great example (in regards to my comment above). He developed a larger-than- life persona. In regards to his background half of it was true (he had been through some pretty unbelievable stuff).
