So far this is the best VST sequencer I can find, visually. Swing is ok but a groove engine of some sort (think Live), that works per lane would be awesome. It would be very useful if we could name the lanes, so we know what's what at a glance. Building on that, a less important but still useful feature imo is the ability to assign colors for each lane. If the range slider worked per lane that would be really cool, or just use a solution like FXpansion Tremor or Sugar Bytes DrumComputer's sequencer where you can drag an arrow (or whatever) from the end of the lane leftward to shorten the steps per lane. This is nice for easy complex polyrhythms. Bonus points for playback mode options like reverse and ping pong, per lane. Over the top bonus points for independent tempo (but still lockable to host) per lane. These would take Playbeat to the next level and that's what I'm looking for but seemingly no one is doing it in a simple to use VST format. Modalics Beat Scholar, for example, is very capable but I don't like the UI, it's the circles thing. I just want steps like in Playbeat 3. DrumComputer is pretty awesome but ideally I'd like to pull just the sequencer out of it and leave the rest.

I’ve read your replies to those concerned (I would not use the word confusion as you stated. We are not confused) and I have to tip my cap to you for replying. Many vendors just ignore. Kudos. The concern is real for creators. Hypothetically, what if Playbeat 4 comes out and the same model of paying for that app. As an iOS user, I do not have the upgrade path, so perhaps having it on sale for a limited time could be a compromise. I will admit, this is not an app/software that I have to roll the dice and pay $300 and it’s appreciated. It’s the optics/perception it gives the users. Hopefully 4.0 won’t be another pay app. But if it is, perhaps switching to a subscription based model might be the better approach. With that said. I will buy it. It’s not rolling the dice. A monkey can figure that out.

Just purchased and watching this video to get the hang of it. This may be a tall order, but I would LOOOOOVE if this thing had a randomizer for bit depth and sample rate so you could crunch up your samples on random steps.

it may be the best sample drum machine ever. I kind of miss one thing only, when switching to 32 steps, duplicating the existing 16 part pattern would be more convenient than filling it with blanks, since most of the time you'd want to do that and go from there. Also, IMHO I'm not certain the big -randomize literally everything- button needs to be big at all or the center star of the plugin? It's mostly leading to mishaps only since I guess nobody really is interested in that complete chaos - at least not very often:)

Hello 👋, thanks for the feedback. This can be added to our upcoming update for sure. About the randomization, at the moment you can have three different randomization algorithms so while the full random will generate based on your settings, you can also try using the remix algorithm or the newest SMART mode ✌️

Excellent, well thought out plugin as usual. I grabbed this because of the "complete the suite" option in the web portal. I'm running 3.0.2 and there seems to be a minor bug in where the infinity mode enables itself whenever I choose one of the numbered presets along the bottom. I suspect that is because I was using infinity mode when saving the preset. This feels like a bug because when I click and load a preset saved that way, the infinity mode is not highlighted and don't expect global randomisation to be triggered after X bars (however many there were during save). When i stop playback and select one of the channels (of one of these presets with the 'invisible' infinity mode), then the infinity mode logo lights up to show it's enabled. But before I select a channel, it is not highlighted though it behaves as though it is. I hope this makes sense. It might seem like a small thing but it really ruins the ability to use patterns which were saved during infinity playback - which is how I like to store up ideas.

Wondering what the capabilities are for this as a melodic sequencer. Pitch is a variable, but I didn't really get a flavor for it here.... Do any of your sample packs include melodic elements? Can notes be tied in any way on this sequencer? Or should I look to Riffer or Chordjam for these kinds of capabilities? Thanks, this looks like a great product!

Hello Steven, As of now, our Playbeat packs do not include solely melodic elements as all of them are focused towards rhythmic concepts. However, you are free to load any tonal sample on the sequencer(s) and use rthe real-time pitch shifting engines. Although i have to point out that since Playbeat is not geared towards Melodic/Chord compositions we haven't included features such as Scales, Root notes, Duration features and many others functionalities that you will find on Riffer and/or Chordjam. If you're looking for an audio effect with the capabilities of Riffer, maybe our upcoming Riffer update will have you covered. Stay tuned!

Not sure if it has swing options per sound? but looking really good, a shame the trial version is not usable as its produces an anoying noise all the time and is not possible to play with it

Hello Nacho, Yes you can use shuffle amount and also independently for each one of the sequencers.

Is there some kind of song mode?

Can you drag and drop wav files on iOS? I can't seem to do it.

Is it possible to work with different time sigantures? 6/8 7/8, whatever. I don't understand why limiting the number of steps to just 16 or 32 without anything in beteeen (for a 12/8 i might wanna work with 12 steps)

Sure, you can adjust the range bar and you can do that individually for each of the sequencers too.

Dope plug. I've tested it out. It lacks two things to make it ideal. 1st: step chance. 2nd. swap samples in mixer view. perfectly to add two arrows below mute/solo to swap them quickly. Would be nice to see these options in the next update.

@@audiomodern I mean a chance for every step in the sequencer, like in ableton. For example, one step could play with probability 100%, the other with 10% and etc. WIll be super easy to change it by holding the step with right-click and dragging it up/down, and by dragging the step from left to right changing sample length. Adding some filters and being able to modulate those, as well as other parameters, for example, pitch and volume will make this plug a rocket.

I like Playbeat 3, but the only thing that slows my workflow is that the "SYNC" button is on by default for every preset. I never use Sync so if I'm scrolling through presets I need to go over and turn off the Sync button with every preset in order to hear the pattern. It would be nice if there was global setting that can set Sync button to default on or off instead of always on. Just a suggestion, but other than that I like the plugin a lot.

Is it possible to designate 2 or more lanes as a choke group? Nice if the closed HH sound could cut off the open HH but also if I randomize the open/closed HH lanes I don't want both sounds ending up on the same step.

whenever I drag and drop the midi using the export function into Logic it only exports as one note and not the pitch range it should be in meaning I have to manually move it in the piano roll myself onto the correct corresponding note. Is there something I am doing wrong?

My only request with it is could you expose the automation parameters as having multiple instances in Bitwig would mean I can map the midi controller at a VST level in Bitwig or modulate the parameters - an on / off knob for that temp randomisation switch being modulated in Bitwig would be sweet

There does not seem to be an obvious way to clear all the preset slots at the bottom of the UI. Right now, you got to go through the preset manager, click the drop arrow, click the delete button, then click confirm. I reckon that's a bit much - especially when you want to clear them all. suggest a RESET button to the right of the 16 slots (confirmation dialog et al). Could make it so that right-clicking on a slot brings up the delete confirmation box for just that preset slot. Just a suggestion.

Hello 👋, thanks for your feedback. Quick load slots are there to store any of your saved presets and you do not need to delete a preset to free up a slot. As with all of our apps you only need to change the slot number through the drop down menu next to preset name. Clearing all slots at once is of course possible and we will try to add it the soonest ✌️

Yes, multiple outputs are supported by your DAW. You may create 8 audio tracks and assign the available outputs from Playbeat as input to each.

How can I edit the overall sample pitch? I cant find it…And what does the greyed out dots mean that dont play a sound…? PS: Automation in Cubase does not work… But despite that PlayBeat is by far the best drummachine on this planet!!

Hello Wolfgang, Please go the Pitch tab/mode and set the toggle to 'Fixed' and there you can enter your desired pitch which will be applied to all steps. Grayed-out steps means that there is no sound loaded to that sequencer. You should be able to Automate everything via MIDI Learn or MIDI CC, but exposed DAW parameters are coming with this week's update. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to empty a preset slot (at the bottom). Once I put in a groove, it loads but I can't unload it. Do I have to erase all 8 tracks?

The quick load slots are nothing more than extensions of the presets that you see on the preset manager. To remove a slot you need to remove it from the drop-down menu next to the preset name inside the preset manager.

This vst is odd. If I make a groove and store it in pattern one, i can't change it after that. If I change it, I can't save it to that same slot. I can then select an empty slot to store the pattern there, but now that one is fixed as well. Why the unnecessary logic? Why not have a + and - to save and erase? Or right click menu to save and erase?

Hi, sure you can. You can either save your new pattern with the same name via the preset manager, or if you are using the quick load slots, you can just click and hold for 2 seconds and the pattern will be re-saved on the same slot.

Is there any way to make the words and fonts larger. They are waaay too small. I've been using this for 20 minutes. And the skin and fonts are extremely taxing on the eyes

Hello, the latest Playbeat version 2.3.3 should continue to work perfectly and we will do our best to support it, however the many new features that come in version 3.0 could not be supported in the previous app unless the software was written from scratch, which is the case with this new version. Hello, we completely understand why you would be confused by the fact that Playbeat 3 is distributed as a new app. Here @Audiomodern we're really proud for working on updates coming in almost every month for all of our apps and we make sure to make user experience better and better. No extra payments. No paywalls. Just plain awesome functionality. We've always delivered new features for free since our inception and if you are already a user of any of our Software then it is very likely that you are already using many of the features that are added much later on each App for free. Playbeat 3 is a totally different concept. When version 1.0 was updated to version 2.0 back in 2019, we didn't choose to upload it as a different build, instead we uploaded the new version 2.0 directly into the existing app. This way, everyone could enjoy the new changes in a single installable download. This resulted in users completely losing their projects and sounds because version 2.0 would completely overwrite version 1.0. Due to the fact that the App was re-built from scratch as a completely new software, the only solution we could think of without having to alter any of the user's projects, was to simply release as a new App. Our upgrade path system on our website user's dashboard allows customers to choose how to best upgrade, if they want to. Still, given that Playbeat 3 comes with so many new features we believe that a price of €19 as an 'upgrade' is really fair considering the amount of time that is invested for the development to an upgrade like this, not to mention the customized Packs (which is a new format) and we aim to release various collections (that also include sounds) frequently.
