I’ve had Battle for Rokugan for over a year sitting on my shelf and I just haven’t gotten it to the table! I’m seriously excited to play it someday! Generally no one has been super interested in playing with me so we always pick other games 😂 One day.

This is exactly the video I needed. I love GoT but Battle for Rokugan recently caught my eye. So now I have to give it a try 👍

Battle for Rokugan is such an underrated hidden gem. Not only the game is great but the bang for your buck is amazing. I got my new copy for 20$ only to see it 1 year later at 10$ (new!). I hope this video will bring some love to this game since an expansion for this would be great. (Or like you mentioned a GoT reskin. That would be great too!)

Interesting. Actually GoT 2ed is the one that brought me back to serious gaming. Now with all the new games flowing in it never hits th table. Every time we consider it we just pick something else. You're just on point with the reason why that is. It's sooooo long. It takes whole night to play it. Never played Battle for Rokugan, but after seeing this it hits my to try list! Thanks.

Definitely try Battle for Rokugan then! It takes the best parts of GOT IMO.

Got usually takes no longer than 2 hours in my experience. If Rokugan is merely just a watered down version of the GoT board game, I have a hard time determining if I should get it

Actually that title derives from the situation before aegons conquest. With Stark, Lannister, Baratheon, Greyjoy, Tyrell, Martell, Arryn, Tully and Targaryen there were nine great houses before roberts rebellion. But since the last three of those aren't playable in the base game Alex was right with his number of houses in the game. Sorry for the nerd off ;-)

Rokugan has one thing about it that disqualifies it as a good game - there's no mid-game scoring. NONE. Which means that you only get points for end game board state. Which means that none of the first 2-3 rounds really matter, because you can lose everything if other players desire to gang up on you. And it wouldn't be THAT much of an issue if you couldn't parachute orders in the middle of other players' teritories (GoT doesn't have mid game scoring either, but it has a very "real" geography). It's a great attempt at streamlining Game of Thrones, but ultimately it fails in the long run.

I don’t agree. It matters a lot because you can’t just suddenly win in a single round. Usually the best player is the one with the best mind games, bring good at bluffing, shifting his priorities and kept people guessing. One of the best bluffing area control games I have played

@@JacobWrestledGod but you can suddenly lose in one round ;). I've seen games when one player was crushed by his rivals in the last round just because he happened to occupy territories from their hidden goals. I think this is a flawed design due to this fact. Very clever, but flawed.

@@bushibayushi and that is the point which make it so fun to game. It‘s unpredictable until the end. Me and my group think it‘s a great game and we play it a lot.
