Nice video. I played the Taimanov for years, but when I started playing again recently I switched to the Kan [for those who don't know, you start with e6 and then a6]. The advantage of the Taimanov is that you can play pretty much the same moves against anything. The advantage of the Kan is that you are more flexible, so for instance, against 5.c4 I play Nf6/Nc3 Bb4; against 5.Nc3 I play b5 and Bb7; against Bd3 I play Bc5/Nb3 Ba7. I'd be interested in the "Chessbrah" take on the difference. Also, happy to play the reverse Taimanov (and have done so), but I'm unsure what to play against 1.c4 c5 - the mirror is annoying.

In a symmetrical English you just go on with your development really quickly. Fianchetto your bishop(s) is strong and then just try to outplay in the midgame

That is good advice in any opening, but the problem with the symmetrical English is that it is hard to create imbalances.

I love c4 against the Kan. Nf6, Bb4, Ne4, Qa5, etc. What don't you like? I'm not so keen on it against the Taimanov!

1:04 am I missing something or does black win the Queen by force here? Nf2+ Kg1 Ne4+ with a discovered check and an attack on the Queen

Yeah he wins the queen I was like screaming at the screen haha

Taimanov has carried my rating from 1450 to 1550

At 3:43 why not give a check woth the knight,king only has one square,than its discovered check with the night and bishop and you can take his queen with the nightm

Can you play the taimanov against d4? I was thinking of playing e6 first but i dont know if it works

Short answer is no. You should play in response to your opponent. You can play d4 e6 though. Look into the Nimzo-Indian, pretty sure Aman also recommends this, maybe even has a speedrun on it. The correct move order would be d4 Nf6 c4 e6. So you would still need a response to 2. Nf3 and 2. Bf4. Hope it helps buddy

I think, generally, white would push the pawn again to d5 and it would transpose into the Benoni.
