    I have a set up for both chest rig and plate carrier. I live in the piney woods of east Texas. Only broken up by lakes and creeks. I work in a more small town urban environment. But I live off the lake in the heavy woods. SBR+ Plates for more urban/ neighborhood environment typically. Full rifle+Chest rig for long range thick woods. Only issue is the creeks and lake and random bits of society bleed throughout its a well balanced mixture. Diligence is key. You don’t want to trek 15 miles in the woods with plates on. But all the sudden you hit a ranch or a highway with a small town May have to clear a structure with a chest rig. Also I don’t want to step off in one of these many water sloughs with a plate carrier on. I love my local environment

    This is a really awesome concept, it adds some additional perspective to consider for which situations dictate what gear is appropriate.

    I have both but i lean more towards chest rig. I live in a suburban/rural area next to a 4,000 acre wooded state park where stand-off would be at a greater distance than urban. If there were ever a minor WROL situation, like the summer 2020, the odds of it hitting my area are very slim. In the slim chance it did or if there was a major WROL situation, I’d likely have time to bug out to a totally rural area where family/friends live and I’ve stashed some provisions.

    Great discussion, good looking qear, friends praise your gear and constructiom. I've been considering a back panel for my chest rig but in my humble opinion this is too expensive. I'll stick to one quarts and a source bladder.

    Both options have their place and both have many disadvantages and advantages! Regardless they both offer organization which is better than carrying your equipment or magazines in your cargo pockets and pant pockets! Choose wisely 😊

    What about an environment where it can be, +110f (100% humidity) in Summer and also -30f (also 100% humidity) in Winter?

    Good question! Conductive thermoregulation is the only answer with humidity, especially humidity that high. Thanks to the basic principles of thermodynamics, IcePlates work in both hot and cold conditions. Here are some articles from our IceAge Insights blog with for a deeper dive: www.qoreperformance.com/blogs/military-insights/winter-iceplate-setups-for-military-warfighters www.qoreperformance.com/blogs/industrial-insights/filling-iceplate-safety-vest-with-warm-and-or-hot-water-for-winter-use www.qoreperformance.com/blogs/military-insights/body-armor-cooling-safeguarding-the-american-warfighter-everywhere-everyday-on-every-mission www.qoreperformance.com/blogs/military-insights/how-the-human-body-cools-itself-the-science-of-human-performance www.qoreperformance.com/blogs/military-insights/thermal-conductivity-and-the-qore-performance-iceplate We hope that helps (IceAge Insights has TONS of detailed info), but after reading those articles, don't hesitate to let us know if you have any additional questions! #StayFrosty

    I just sewed my own chest rig out of a kidney belt for an army backpack so that it would go over my plate carrier and be able to readjusted for when I didn’t want to wear my plate carrier. I’m working on attaching a camel back to it.

    I went the wire trash way lol I bought a plate carrier and set it up then if my terrain gets too steep or the distance gets too long or the “sustainment” gets put all on my back, basically when I would switch to a chest rig, I just pull the plates out. That’s actually one of the factors I looked at when deciding which carrier to buy, wether or not it would be too floppy without plates. Sure the breath ability would be better with a chest rig but I only have so much $$$

  • @CertifiedSunset

    I would save up some money and get a chest rig that can clip onto your plate carrier if it supports it. That way you can transition between them as you want but can have both. If you are running with somebody else, the person with the chest rig can carry the extra ammo since they save weight with a rig.

    I’m in the Las Vegas desert, so you’re telling me to lose the foam plate backer and get some ice vents instead?

  • @QorePerformanceUSA

    @QorePerformanceUSA

    2 жыл бұрын

    Great question! For an arid climate like Las Vegas, anything that promotes Convection is the way to go. Foam is widely used as an insulator, so it is not the smartest choice for applications where heat accumulation is a concern. We are not big on telling people what to do, but rather equipping them with all of the objective facts so they can make the best decision for themselves. If that means IceVents, great. If something else is a better fit like the 221B Tactical Maxx-Dri vest (an excellent non-foam product), that is great too. Here is a link to an article from our IceAge Insights blog that has a table comparing all of the different body armor ventilation options on the market: www.qoreperformance.com/blogs/military-insights/plate-carrier-ventilation-ending-the-hot-misery-of-body-armor Hope that helps, but let us know if you have any additional questions! #StayFrosty

    I assumed chest rigs would be ideal for urban environments but you made a good point about situations where you will be traveling and don't need need 360-degree protection because the objective is a fixed direction. We saw this play out during the January 6th insurrection where most of the insurrection is wearing chest rigs I believe for this exact reason. In the case of the insurrectionists since they knew the capital was a fixed position, that they would be marching and jumping through windows it made sense for them to use chest riggs. Even with the lighter chest riggs insurrectionist we're still able to carry items such as bear mace, zip ties, tasers and medical equipment. In a defensive position such as the one that the police were in would it make sense for them to have plate carriers or also chest rigs?
