    At 4:33 Something I kinda spaced out on: placards exist the are only mag pouches. I'm either oblivious, or they didn't exist when I put this JPC together. Likely the first. So when I refer to placards I'm referring to micro-rig placards (D3CRM, modulus, spiritus mk4 etc.)

    Thanks for this. I appreciate your honesty with not reviewing other carriers, I've had 3 thus far and the breathability is a big thing for me. My favorite has been the Defense Mechanisms carrier with Beez shoulder pads and cummerbund but I've had that all for a year and living in the Great Lakes area I don't have the ability to get out and shoot in it as often as I would like. I really wanted the JPC to be better than it is, as it seems as just a great way to hold plates (which not all PC do). I first got a banshee which works but I hated shouldering a rifle in it, and I've had the AWS which (when it was cheap) but doesn't breathe at all and I actually like a placard system as I often switch between 300aac, 5.56, and 7.62Nato. I love your review of the Haley Pack as I have an old chestrig and dangler I bought on Armslist for $75 and while it has held up well, wouldn't pay much more when I can find others that do the same or better for so much less.

    Thanks for another good vid! I used a JPC 1.0 for a couple years for work, and I still think it’s one of the best “utility per dollar” carriers on the market. A couple thoughts about the Tubes: for me and probably a lot of folks, they’re not so much about the quick on and off capability as they are for other factors. Velcro wears out with each use, which can be a significant issue if you’re using your carrier frequently. And speaking as an Alaska resident, I quickly started to shy away from almost any Velcro-secured system after realizing that it becomes nearly useless as soon as you get it clogged up with snow. Been on the Tube train for a bit now mostly for those two reasons. And with newer Tubes bunds like the AXL Equinox, you gain rigidity and don’t lose PALS real estate.

    I use tubes for the simple fact that I hate Velcro lol. I hate being in the woods trying to be sneaky and you hear that crazy loud SHRRRRRREEET. I run placards becuz it’s less kit to have to pack. I normally have a slick or slickish plate carrier stowed in my sustainment load and I’ll run around with a belt and a chest rig. If contact is probable or if I’m going to do a deliberate attack I’ll un pack the Plate carrier and slap on my chest rig and I’m ready to go. But to each his own man. Great video as always

    Great video, as always. You’ve mentioned this in a few videos and I would love to hear an elaboration. You say that you don’t need to carry large amounts of ammo, and that if you did have that need you could carry them in a backpack. Solid workaround. However, my view on the issue is this: If I’m solo, or with a small team, I want the ability to rapidly access as much ammunition as possible. I prioritize the amount of magazines my kit can carry because numbers are NOT to my advantage in a gunfight, and thus having an excess of ammunition to sling hopefully tips the scale back in my favor. This is all of course assuming that the situation warrants full kit. What are your thoughts?

    Quick comment on the FS tubes. I like them myself, run one of their carriers currently, but something else that is a negative is with the tubes you lose storage space on the cummerbund/front of the plate carrier, you can't have a 4-5 AR mag setup that blends across the plate bag and Cummerbund because those tubes are in the way. That being said, big comfy, super quick, and a great way to vent heat by just undoing one side and getting more space between you and the plates Nice video, subscribed a while ago for lefty appreciation and dog

    Let me make some suggestions...try them, you may find that they help. The small admin pouch at thep of your carrier IS meant for 3x5 cards. Write down radio frequency, call sign , etc...keep them handy. Maps are meant to go in the kangaroo pouch. Laminate them...they last longer. Get yourself a proper mag pouch and molle it to to the front. I recommend old school six mag pouches with elastic holders and velcro flaps. Retention is excellent and i can't understate the value of keeping debris out of your mags. Lastly, it's ok for the first aid kit to go on your back. It's meant to be used on you...not used by you. Let's face it, after you get shot your ability to triage and self administer first aid will be impaired. On the back panel protects the first aid supplies for when you really need them. Hope some of that helps, Phil

In my system battle belt is first line with absolute essentials: some rifle (20 rd) and pistol mags, multi tool, and ifak. Then, plate carrier for higher threat or more overt warlike situations, with more rifle mags, radio, etc.

    Good to know about the JPC sag. I’ve been a fan of the channel for a while and have been looking into the JPC for a while. This video made the decision between 1.0 and 2.0 much easier. But the price point plus the sag is a bit of a turn off for me. However I came back to this video to see the long term wear once again after a buddy of mine offered to sell his JPC 1.0 (which is the one I decided on before I heard about the sag plus price point issue) plus a battle belt and a few pouches for both that he bought and came in at the wrong size (he’s an L guy and ended up getting sent M gear, I’m a M guy), all for $60. I think I’m gonna jump in since at $60 for all of it, the sag will be less of an issue and a little more justifiable

I’ve got a family that I’m supporting on nothing but my active duty E-5 salary, and with the way the economy has been, extra stuff that I want like NODs, comms, plate carriers, etc. (like the expensive big gear purchases) are pretty hard to justify with how tight the budget already is. But $60 for it plus a battle belt is a steal for sure. He said he’d hold both for me specifically while I thought over the decision too which is pretty awesome

    The Crye stuff is considered the standard to which similar low profile PCs are considered for a reason. It really is still the best. Others offer superficially useful features that make sense to a newbie buyer but don't actually matter (the HRT is probably the biggest offender, along with the Spiritus, FCPC/Slickster, and the now ad nauseum variations of them) and lack comparable durability. The JPC 1.0 uses a thin minimalist shoulder strap that is intended to be consumable. It's still a solid design but it's also nearly 15 years old now. The follow up SPC fixes pretty much every shortcoming the JPC has (can fit 10x12s or thicker than SAPI, placard ready out of the box, etc) and fills the same role while being lighter and able to handle more weight.

Like the AVS you can use the rigid minimalist cummerbund but it's at its best as a system of switching between that and the "patrol" load bearing cummerbund. The gear the Crye Precision makes (not the clothing/uniforms) is specifically designed for special force units with multiple mission sets and an unlimited government budget.. The gear is not designed for civilian/militia units. There is too much velcro going on with the kit they design and the zippers are completely unnecessary. Laser cut MOLLE and thin mesh materials cannot be field repaired like traditional MOLLE webbing can. Most people are only going to have one mission set that they will specialize in so scalable kit is not a requirement and is likely more unstable for long term usage. Something like the T.Rex Arms AC1 is a great scalable option because it take all sorts of chest rigs and magazine pouches but it doesn't have the ability to easily run side plates which is a huge negative to me personally. Even if you think running hard armor on the side is cumbersome, you still need something to catch frag so you need soft armor at a minimum.

    Good stuff. I still disagree on the mags, especially if you're running the HSP knock off rig vs. a backpack. With a backpack at least you can quickly take off in a fight and swap mags. Thinking through scenarios, it seems most likely that 1. You won't fire a shot and you'll need no mags 2. You fire one or just a handful of shots from one mag or 3. You get in a legit firefight and need like 6-10 mags. Can't imagine many firefights (even if breaking contact) where you'll be happy with 3 accessible mags.

    I would take your opinion over TLD as he does some burpess in a carrier and that’s it. You’re spending years in one…. Granted it’s only one,that is gonna say a lot more than 10 minutes in 50 different ones. Sure when you first put it on there might be some hot spots but those could wear in and if you don’t spend time in it do you really know what you’re talking about? Idk just a thought but i think it would be hard to do a good review/comparison as there are so many and it would take years. I guess that’s my problem with a lot of reviews… does 1000 rounds say if a gun is good? Ehh maybe. Does taking a flash light out of a box and shining it at a tree line tell you if it’s good in the long term? Ehh maybe? Lol i like the more “over view” style show what comes with the product how it works and a little of your experience.🤷‍♂️

    Dunno man, placards done right are the way. You can set up one PC with all your gear, comms, etc, and then slap on the appropriate placard for the "mission", or just the weapon you're running. Beats hell out of having three or four PCs, or taking the time to weave MOLLE when LARPing with 5.56, or 9mm, or .308, etc. Stand-alone Chest rig functionality on some placards is just icing on the cake. EDIT: Didn't see your comment. I'm with you there, I run my placards as mag only, no double-stack of crap on the front.

  • @BrassFacts

    @BrassFacts

    Жыл бұрын

    yeah I guess I should have phrased that differently: I don't configure my mag pouches for different missions. That is handled by the bag. I also don't really buy into hotswapping placards. I think it's neat in theory, but it almost never plays out.

  • @Croak1

    @Croak1

    @@BrassFacts Works for me, that's all that matters. I do use my AR-10 a lot, so just being able to clip in that mag placard or the 5.56 is handy. I have a subgun/PCC one that I hardly ever use since I hardly ever use the PCC I put together. If I'm bagging up, it's going to be with a real rifle, and if I'm ever in a fantasy scenario where I'm trying to be covert it'll probably be with a Flux Raider, not a clunky PCC.

    @@Croak1 Certain mag pouches (TACOs, G-Codes and copies for example) can take pretty much all rifle mags. Individually kinda pricey, but beats the hazzle and cost of having separate placards for your AR-15, AK and AR-10... In my opinion.

    @@hjorturerlend Which is why I have a single Taco on my weak-side cummberbund, but for the front I like something slicker. For my belt, I use One-Wrap on Esstac pouches and just quick swap that way when changing loadouts. Tacos are a bit of a PITA to resize for retention too, faster to swap placards, and DM or Agilite placards are cheaper than 3x or 4x Tacos. And no freaking weaving required!

    I really don't think putting pistol mag pouches on a chest rig is really necessary. You can run a battle belt with a holster, mag pouch plus med kit. Even extra rifle pouches. This allows for better kit choices to where if you aren't running a pistol, no problem. No battle belt needed. If you want to go with lighter armor or even a heavier armor option you keep the battle belt you have with the same med kit, pistol, and other items and change out plate carriers as needed.
