This is not so easy an cheap as its made out to be. My plant consisting or a 2000 L steel container and coolers each of 200L set me back a pretty penny and that's not the boiler and pipe works. It produces approximately 100 to 130 L of diesel oil and 10% of that amount is petrol. You might spend about 10 -14 hrs depending on circumstances. I managed to get quite good quality petrol but the diesel oil is pretty shitty. The diesel works well, but it causes the injectors to clog up. What no one tells you is that the dark colour is caused by tar and carbon in the distilled product. The petrol (although very light yellow coloured) cause extreme carbon deposits in the engine and exhaust systems as well. The (feel) product turns darker and darker when left for a few days /weeks. The carbon/tar tends to settle at the bottom of the container but it seems that it's an ongoing reaction to darken. It has the tendency to dissolve some kinds of rubber and plastic pipes. Inshort, this is my experience with it.

Nice simple approach! But I'd expect serious clogging of your pipes because high boiling compounds that are tar-like semi solids at RT are driven off and condense in the pipes. This can be eliminated by superheating the gasseous product stream first. Thermal cracking on the way. At least this is what happened when I did something very similar. PVC should first distill off as HCl at quite low temperatures. Under 200°C. It should not create significant amount of chloroorganics there. But that process takes time. I sure like to see your paper! ;)

Well that's a change from your usual glassware! 6:29 : Please don't run it on PVC. You could make small amounts of dioxins. They're easily absorbed through the skin, and become a severe health hazard at parts per billion levels. Look at what happened in Times Beach : 30 ppm *in the soil* was enough to cause horses and birds to die off. Same in Seveso where a few micrograms of dioxin per square meter of topsoil were sufficient to cause a mass die-off of the local fauna, and hundreds of cases of chloracne in people. I don't know how you plan to analyze the results, but I'd be surprised if it is sensitive enough to detect dioxins before they are a severe threat. As far as I know, the only satisfactory technique to avoid their formation in waste incineration is to do it at high enough temperatures with an excess of oxygen to ensure complete oxidation of organic compounds. That's obviously not going to be the case with your setup, since you're running it in the absence of oxygen. So, yeah. Just stay away from halogenated cr*p, as much as possible. It's never good...

The bottom mating flange should have an indented slot for holding the gas sealing rope, with a matching raised lip on the upper flange to push down onto the rope in the slot. To use less energy, the waste heat from the condenser can be used to heat the supply fuel gas and/or heat the supply air to the burner. As part of the startup gas purge you should include a vacuum pump to draw it down and remove the nitrogen and oxygen. Use a shredder to break large pieces into small chunks. This will accelerate the dissolving of thick hard plastics. If you put the whole thing on a weight scale, you will know when the process is done because the reactor vessel stops becoming lighter.

Love your work! Had not heard of liquid tin for decarbonizing. Some of the papers I have read have used nickel or other catalysts to do this. Many have tried using the catalyst in the reactor, but a cleaner product might be able to be obtained by running the gases through hot catalysts. Some that I have heard of include silicon dioxide, copper, manganese dioxide, vanadium, etc. One of the things I wish to try is heating coins (made of cupronickel in the united states) and running the hot gases through those.

So you would do column chromatography in order to determine constituents, and with that information you could find the proper temps to separate your products with an ordinary distillation apparatus? Very interested in seeing more :) If this process can become profitable, there might be incentive for "mining" plastics from our oceans, simultaneously cleaning our oceans and producing oil w/o having to drill miles underwater.

Glad to see the Plastic to fuel tech catching on. Check us out. We've been doing pyrolysis since 2001. Our 2003 unit is doing well at 10 tons a day. Our 2018 models are doing 20 to 100 tons a day. With a production of 15, 000 to 45,000 liters of oil per day. SepcoIndustries.com

My most concern is what this result would be useful at? Like in my country, we have lots of waste plastics loitering everywhere and causing severe sickness in the environment. Getting the gas wouldn't be any issue here as well, ordinary condemned oil from motor cycle mechanics can be useful. But my question again, what will this refined product used for❓
