@El Macho Trump that's like saying anyone in any relationship on tv is "shoving it down your throat" hetero relationships aren't in media with an agenda, they just show characters in their lives. Its the same with other sexualities and gender identities... Would you say depicting a family with step parents is "shoving it down your throat"?maybe you would. but again, it's just like any other relationship including gay ones

@El Macho Trump They're right, buddy. You are homophobic and transphobic. But with a little perspective and an open mind, you could easily not be. Your username, pfp, and wording choice tell me that's not likely to happen, though.

@El Macho Trump "i really don't care if someone is trans or gay." "making them gay when they are originally straight upsets me" so which is it? u obviously care; you're bothered enough to believe people are shoving it down your throat when you can just ignore it (like you would if you really didn't care), and move on with your life. but no, you're stuck on the idea that trans and gay people are being represented and shown in media. hate to break it to you but you're more homophobic and transphobic than you think.

This is such a low baseline that it's depressing, but the fact that he only ever used he/him pronouns for Atticus and had the correct terminology for everything just made me tear up. It's really, really not that hard but the fact that he makes it look easy and doesn't treat it like a burden is so refreshing. Edit: since it looks like some transphobes decided to clown I just wanted to remind everyone that science agrees trans people are valid and deserve basic respect the same as any person. We're here, we're queer, and if you don't like it then too bad, because we're only gonna get louder and more visible.

When I went in for my top surgery, I had to fill out a bunch of forms so that the government would cover the majority of the cost (Canada). As I was signing the forms, my surgeon said "if you were a woman coming in for a mastectomy, you wouldn't have to fill these out. But because you're a man coming in for gender affirmation surgery, the same thing technically, you do, and that's really shitty". It has never left me that he said "IF" I were a woman, not "used to be" or "trying not to be" or anything. We've come a long way.

There was just the "male/female" trans suicide statistic thing that kinda made me go "🤨" because, well, it's considering trans men as "female" and trans women as "male" (if I understood correctly) and doesn't account for gender non-conforming and intersex folks that experience gender dysphoria and undergo medical transition. Despite that (which I don't blame him for, that's how it was formulated by the OG source and it helps get the point across) I'm really glad he made this video in such an empathetic and respectful manner. Trans visibility on such a large channel and also seeing that he's quite educated on the topic of trans patients is a really reassuring thing to see 💞

However, this video was about a trans man, and you also mentioned trans women, but there was no mention of non-binary trans people such as myself. We are trans and may undergo these stories as well. These stories and experiences also belong to us, so perhaps you could do a bit of research and mention non-binary folks in your next video that features a trans story? I remember when my friend Enzo got his top surgery (Female to Male). Before the surgery, he was very down, depressed and joked about ending it a lot. He was very quiet and shy and always wore thick/big clothes on top of chest binding no matter the weather. After the surgery, he showed us (his friends) his chest proudly. It was red, swollen, the drain was still in and all,but darn he was proud of his body! It was beautiful! He started wearing tshirts and tank tops and his personality truly bloomed. He became an energetic outgoing social butterfly. His depression subsided and he no longer talked about death and the end nearly as much! I'm grateful to be able to witness this transition and what it does to a person. At the time (2008-ish), I didn't see it as such a big deal. I mean... He's a man, so he should be able to look like it right? But I was sheltered and never knew there was so much hate and confusion surrounding transgender people. I'm happy these surgeries are more common nowadays and more people can finally have their body match the soul that resides in it! ❤️

@@sadiq7700wow. You clearly dislike transgender people! What is the difference between using plastic surgery to give your body the appearance of being the gender you feel you truly should be and having plastic surgery to change the appearance of a perfectly healthy nose or breasts? How is it ok for some people to use surgery to achieve a desired look, but not ok for others? Some people could use the argument that having a breast reduction is “mutilating” a healthy body. But I fail to see the harm in changing your appearance in order to look the way that makes you happy and feel comfortable in your body. Which actually relieves depression in people with body dysphoria. How can you say that it’s wrong to perform surgical procedures which eliminate someone’s hatred of their body’s appearance, a hatred which can often be SO deep that the person would prefer to end their life rather than going on living in a body they feel “trapped” in. Would you rather these people live in misery and often even unalive themselves bc they can no longer stand their misery? Just bc you and I may not feel trapped in a body of a gender that we don’t feel shows the gender we truly FEEL that we are, doesn’t mean that there aren’t many people who DO suffer from theee feelings. I fail to see the harm in a consenting adult who understands the ramifications and potential risks of having a gender affirming procedure done, and decides that this surgery is right for his/her/their body. That’s the great part of living in a country where people have the freedom to express themselves. You don’t have to like someone wanting to change his/her gender completely or just in appearance, but their sense of happiness and self-worth is more important than the opinion of a random stranger on the internet

People think that only trans men get it, but cis men can also have use for surgery, so when people complain that trans guys are "butchering their body because they should be happy with how they were born", they forget that there are cis people out there who can get help for very similar things, and are often encouraged to do so. sorry this was a drabble, but I just appreciate you being open with that so people can be reminded that it's a thing.

Anthropologists will tell you our brains haven't evolved much since our conception as a species, and acceptance from our communities was key to survival. And in some ways, it still very much is. It's why suicide rates are so high amongst transgender and nonbinary people; because there is a good portion of them who don't grow up being accepted by their friends or their families. So they try to make up for that hole in themselves by validation elsewhere. As I said before, if you are cisgender you can't understand what it's like to not be. And that's not a slight at you, it's the truth. Just like white people don't understand what it's like to be black. But you can still attempt to empathize, or understand, instead of assuming transgender and nonbinary people are self centered martyrs with victim and god complexes. There is psychology behind peoples actions; try to think a little more and dig deeper instead of assuming and frankly, berating a group of people.

And yet, he feels better emotionally when he’s wearing a binder. When he first told us, a lot of what he’d said and shown as a child suddenly made sense. When I got mine done, I could tell even my surgeon got a little confused cause I wasn’t emotional or anything, it just felt like it was supposed to be from the beginning, I never had that euphoria that most trans guys get when they see their post-op chest for the first time. It just felt logical, and that I wouldn’t have to rationalize or think about having foreign object in my chest.

The number of doctors who don't understand that is troubling, because it's something they should be well aware of.

I haven't been on HRT and the results are amazing and even with being plus size, some minor complications (as all surgeries can have), the huge scar (due to the shape of my chest), and the long travelling. I don't regret any of it. It has improved my life drastically. I love my scar. I love my chest. I'm so much happier than I ever have been. I wasn't on testosterone for my top surgery! I'm also more masculine than male. I identify as agender, i.e. neither binary gender fits me. They feel more like costumes that I can take on and off depending on my mood. I took T for two years and just recently came off it. The only thing that hasn't changed back so far is my voice (which is primarily what I wanted the T for, aside from just trying to fight off my natural femininity). Also, since I was terrified of being one of those people whose nipples rot and fall off because they don't reattach properly, I just straight-up didn't bother tryna keep em. I never got much use out of em lol. My doctor was amazing. For Canadians transes, she used to live and work out of Peterborough, Ontario, but she now lives somewhere in British Columbia. Her name is Jennifer Klok, and she is a freaking angel. The 🇨🇦 government doesn't _technically_ cover the cost of reshaping, only the mastectomy itself (which honestly just seems like the government being petty, which wouldn't be out of the usual for them). Yet I woke up from surgery with a perfectly flat chest and two even, reasonably-sized scars. A year and a half of rubbing Bio-Oil on them and they were about as healed as they were ever gonna be, which was really, really well (which is a miracle given I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome AND mild keloids). Bottom Line: highly recommend Dr. Klok to anyone looking to get this sort of thing done. I love the name Atticus. I'm so glad he's happy. And I'm happy you're happy for him! The giggle when you said, "Now... He might be a little high..." lol I really haven't gotten "anesthetic high" to the level of being emotional and adhd (moreso than usual, anyway) since I was a child. Maybe it's all the other medications (including medical Marijuana, which you have to tell your anesthetist about AHEAD of time, EVERY time so they can adjust for it) that have made me resistant to the more uh..... severe?... side-effects of anesthesia. Either way, seeing more trans men, trans mascs, and nonbinary people in media means a lot to me, so thank you for choosing to do an episode relating to trans healthcare where the comment section isn't filled with a bunch of basted tradcons.

@@shoes7899 hi beautiful human! I can't speak on how it might effect a non binary person, since I identify as binary female, but I would say my top dysphoria is almost 100% gone, and my bottom dysphoria is like 95% gone. There's some cosmetic things that bother me on rare occasions that I'd like to fix when I can afford it, but it's taken the majority of it from debilitating to a minor nuisance at worst. The most important things for every individual is to have a good therapist to guide you through it and make sure it's right for you. As a trans male myself who got top surgery last year, I would love to see Youn’s perspective regarding mastectomies on larger-chested individuals. I was a DD/E prior to surgery, and due to complications I didn’t get to have the excess fat from my chest be used to give the muscle mass I’d prefer, so my chest feels just a hair concave. I don’t know if that’s because my ribs themselves are abnormal or my pecs were just tarnished from how much my chest was bound, but it’s something of note. Even with those complications aside though I would’ve have it any other way. I’m beyond thankful for the surgeons who helped me take a control of my life. Due keep in mind, though, that one surgery is not the be-all-end-all for every trans person. Some of us continue to get procedures mainly for the euphoria and feeling like we can physically live as ourselves, some of us even content with just HRT and one surgery, either, or nothing at all, while others (such as myself) contemplate more surgeries due to continued harassment due to not passing in the eyes of a number of bigoted people or even struggling with things such as body dysmorphia - such surgeries ranging from liposuction to gastric bypass. It’s a complicated situation for every individual to figure out, and every individual is valid to feel how they feel and go about how they see fit to feel like they can be themselves. That all being said, thank you so much for your kind words to Atticus, Doctor Youn. Your kindness and affirmation is something I wish I had in my teens, but I’m beyond grateful for the LGBTQIA+ youth who can see this video from you and feel seen, validated, and respected.

My wife (who is non-binary) had a "ftm" top surgery this summer. They're not on testosterone. It was an interesting experience. We also had to pay for it ourselves, because health insurance doesn't recognize the existence of nb people. The scar isn't necessarily what they were hoping for, but they're glad to not have to wear a binder anymore.

  • @margodphd

    @margodphd

    Жыл бұрын

If they aren't happy with the scar, after the scar is healed it can either be surgically reduced (basically recut, in local anesthesia - I did a lot of scar revisions for free during training and lemme tell You - it's much easier to get 2mm thin line scar when the tissue is not under tension and you aren't suturing deeper tissue along with it!) or treated with fractional laser - the best kind for scars is the one that is either "punching small holes" or ablating top layer of tissue. Some patients find success with dermarolling/dermapens but personally I feel there's a big risk of contamination and the procedure can be painful. Taking good care of surrounding skin with quite heavy, thick, occlusive creams can slightly help the scar's appearance and the colour can be covered (basically - repigmented) with medical tattoo. I hope they'll grow to be happy with the scar too ❤

Another trans guy here, I’m 22, I have been on testosterone since 2017, and started my transition back in 2015. I had this procedure done back in October of 2020, except I was fortunate enough to have a small chest so I had the keyhole surgery. And even though there wasn’t really any weight on my chest/shoulders(besides the binder shirt that I wore to flatten my chest), the amount of weight lifted off of me, was astronomical. I no longer had to worry about not being able to breathe from the binder, or it showing either through my shirt or the collar of my shirt not covering it because the ones I had looked like bras really. I can say that for it being my first surgery, it was gross and like not something I could’ve done on my own at all. I’m fortunate to have a supportive family and partner, who helped me with all the things that I could and couldn’t do post surgery(which, in my case was a lot because I’m a b*tch hah). Seriously though, it was absolutely the right decision and I don’t have any ounce of regret at all. Being able to just throw on a shirt, a single shirt, or be able to go swimming or to the beach shirtless, is so refreshing.

Much like most of the doctors I've seen in real life, Dr Youn has all the terminology correct and understands trans healthcare within his field. I'm glad for that. Surgical options for gender affirmation are becoming safer and safer as the medical field learns more about trans bodies. Trans siblings, always research potential doctors (whether for therapy, hormones, sexual health, or surgery) to make sure they have a positive history with trans patients and specialise in their healthcare. Like Dr Youn said, we don't want someone who only knows the basics because our healthcare often differs from cisgender people in many ways.

To any trans men here in the comments: you are beautiful and strong and so very worthy of all the love and joy and happiness in the whole world. You deserve so much more than what the world has given you. You are valid. Your feelings are valid. Your gender is valid and so is your sexuality. You are a beautiful dynamic and complex person. I know as a cis woman I will never really understand what you go through every day and what it's like to be trans, but I promise I'll stand with you against anyone that wishes you harm, including those in the government. It's sickening how trans people are treated and any time someone else sees it happening it's our job to speak up in the moment just like you'd speak up against the abuse of anyone else.
