Thanks for this Adam, as a fellow South African I think it is vital to have these discussions and participate in the change we should be making every day. Seems like a big task and it is but these conversations need to be had, and today there are still so many people who don't know about recycling and that in some ways it is easy to do... but they just don't know. I recycle whatever I can, and I've learnt that from my grandmother who used to use the washing machine's water to flush the toilet way before we had a drought crisis and my mother who also recycles too.. let see what you find on this topic. looking forward to it.

Everyone should give Plastic Wars (by Frontline/PBS) a watch. A lot of emphasis is put on what we as consumers should be doing - recycling, re-using, using less plastic, etc. - but we aren't the biggest problem: manufacturers are. The documentary covers how recycling came to be touted as the solution and the complexities around it. Well worth a watch.
