Great Video! I have been using Pelican cases for years now and I have had the same issue with the pick and pluck foam and now that I have seen your video I will be able to setup both of my 1750 and 1720 cases up right. I have also been looking for a case where I could put a AR pistol or quick reaction setup and seeing what you did has given me a lot of ideas and turned toward the 1600 instead of the 1700 series case. I want a case that I can take with me on a plane and allow me to have a sidearm with me when I travel in states that honor my CWP. Bravo ZULU on your Case and Video!

i use plasti dip for all my foam. works great... also if you use spray adhesive, there can be some spots where it is still tacky, go over with plati dip and bam, fixed.

If you want better results try the flex seal. I started with regular foam from Joe Ann's and got it to be nice and hard plus it makes the foam water resistant. Works great.

I tried this on a similar case from Amazon. It didn't work with one can. After spraying it all down good, it was better, but still began to fall apart. I tried it again, this time brushing on flex seal, and it's holding better. But really it could use a little more. Honestly, you'll need several cans of plastidip to get a firm hold (or several coats with a brush). This stuff is a basically a big sponge, made to soak up liquid, so that's exactly what it does.

I was inspired by your vids to finish my Pelican 1600 go box. The plasti-dip tip worked perfectly. My AR pistol is nearly identical to yours. Went with my Sig M11A1 for the handgun. I added a spot for a Howard Leight Impact Sport hearing pro. I also cut a small section in the second layer of foam for a desiccant pack. Thanks for the vid and the ideas!

Love plastidip! Used it for years on my car, blacking out the silver/grey highlights on the grille and bumpers and gave all the chrome trim a nice black matte finish. Been 4 years and still holding like new. Also rebuilt and refinished a hon lateral cabinet using dip on the handles for grip and coat the sharp edges. First coat is supposed to be a half spray dusting to give the following coats something extra to adhere to then lay it thick with wet sprays after that. Gonna go the extra mile by grinding & sanding with my Dremel for better shapes and cleaner edges after I pluck the cubes before dipping. Making a QuickDraw case for 4 pistols .

Thank you for posting this video! I have used Pelican, and knockoff cases for 25 years to house electronics and computer peripherals. Love the pick and pluck concept, vs cutting foam w/ a hot knife, but the fact that the cubes can inadvertently tear off, is frustrating. So, finally have a solution!

I fly my drone alot and after the first few weeks I noticed the Pick N Pluck foam as started to show some wear and tear. I would love to get a foam cut-out specific for my Mavic however its more than half the price of the case just for a foam replacement. I'll spend $6 or so on a can of plasti-dip. Awesome video!

this works great. nice job on the case. although the area you have blank seems a waster of the space. perhaps you might have been best served with a smaller case. for everyone bemoaning chemicals and moisture...you don't store long term in this situation. if you do, just throw a couple of silica gel pack in the case. also, you should check your guns every couple of weeks based on the humidity in your area. leaving this in the Florida area for months will be your own fault when it looks like a rusty anchor.

Learning this the hard way: this is best done right away, when the foam is new and the blocks are together. I did the Plastidip spray a couple years in, when some of the blocks were very loose or missing. Do this the right away after you decide on your configuration. 2023 cost at Home Depot is about $10 per can.

Great tip, Kotaboy. I just started picking & plucking my brand new Pelican 1510 and already the pieces are coming apart. I’m going to get some Plasti-Dip. It might take a little practice. But a whole new set of P&P is only about $40, so if I screw it up, it’s not like I wrecked a $180 case. Also, you are clearly no fan of the factory P&P, so I give you extra points for not using a word that rhymes with “pluck” every time you call it by name! :D

That is amazing! I will try this when I buy new foam for my cast. Also, if you have a access to a laser cutter, you can cut out that same pattern into a thin piece of acrylic with color of your choice (preferably opaque) and glue it on top of the foam. It will make the case look uber professional. I got the idea from Tested.

use some warm water in a bowl to warm up your plastidip bottle. Not boiling! Just hot tap. Then shake it well, it will loosen it up for a better spray. around 20cm (7.5 to 8 inches) is the best distance to spray from. About three coats. Let each coat dry.

The only reason I don’t want to do this, is that as a photographer, my gear is constantly changing, so I want to make sure I can always add slots for lenses without having to buy a whole new set of foam

How many cans do you think it would take to do 4 of the Plano All Weather Tactical cases? I have 3 of the 42" and one of the 36"?

+Jon R also, if you have foam that needs replaced I found a place that has high quality foam for a lot less than the pelican brand stuff and they sell while sheets of it. They have charcoal standard and charcoal firm up to 4" thick. I'm ordering a couple sheets just to have for when my foam needs replaced. They also offer custom water jet cutting if you want to have the foam cut perfectly. Here is the link for the charcoal foam for gun cases as well as eggcrate charcoal foam. www.foamforyou.com/custom_foam_packaging.htm

I did this, but the problem I had was the plastic dip reacted with the G10 on my knives and turned the black G10 white.

I have been looking for this video. I wondered how PlastiDip would do at sealing the foam. Recently I Plucked it Up on a Apache Case from Harbor Frieght. Great Case for $33. This literally "Seals the Deal". With out it, it becomes a Pluckin' Mess! ;)
